Randy Stein
Lead sheets are exactly what you describe - chord symbols and melody, generally, and every fake book I've ever seen is made up of them. When I played a lot of jazz (on trombone, not concertina), I generally used The Real Book. I didn't realize there was a fake book called The Fake Book - what type of tunes does it have? Sorry, I just went back and edited my reply; yes, lead sheets. I have about three or four. Its called The Book and really has no author. This guy probably copied a fake book and bound them and sold ad hoc. Standards, show tunes ethnic etc. there is some redundancy. They were cheap and I was flush at the time as I remember. I bought a lot of sheet music and used to be a place in Little Italy in NY that had tons of old music I bought arranged for accordion, mandolin or guitar. rss
jggunn
Although not as complex as this music, I have found that arrangments of mandolin music which uses thirds and sixths as well as fourths as harmony works very well on the English concertina. Both of the tunes you've posted are of the older popular variety (though Gershwin can be hard to pigeonhole), is that mainly what you play, or do you play other styles as well? The covers fell off my fake books years ago. They probably are the Real Fake books. I play all styles. I just posted the two I had handy. I also played trombone in HS and College. Had beautiful Bach Trombone. After college I concentrated on the EC and eventually sold it to a friend. rss
