Mad Man Zak
I have a 48 key Lachenal Duet with Crane (Butterworth) configuration. The serial number inside the unit is 486 and is found on the reed pans of both ends. Any idea of when this was made? Also, what is the correct pronounciation of the name "Lachenal"? wes williams
Hi Zak, A number that low would be very approximately around 1905. I always say Lash-en-al, but that could be wrong!

That might be wrong too. And me, and everyone else in the concertina world that I've met I think.
tzirtzi
It's a French name, so I would guess that it's correctly la-she-NAL (though I've always said LACH-e-nal with a CH as in loch or cheers, regardless).
