Chris Drinkwater
Series three, of the highly acclaimed Transatlantic sessions, is now showing on BBC4 on friday evenings at 8.00pm. Lasting half an hour, it features regular musicians such as Aly Bain, Jerry Douglas, and Phil Cunningham and various guest musicians and singers such as Julie Fowlis and James Taylor. Episode 5 last friday, briefly featured Niall Vallely on anglo concertina. A catch-up service is available on BBCiplayer, for those who can view it, and all 5 episodes can still be watched. Chris Drinkwater
Darn. Viewable in the UK only. why do they call it 'Transatlantic'? They can't even get across the Channel (lol) Dirk, Belgium Yes, it's a shame. It is an excellent series of programmes. There are apparently wheezes that enable folks who don't live in the UK, to watch BBCiplayer and see programmes like the Transatlantic Sessions via their computer, but I don't know to get round it myself. Maybe an internet search might uncover ways round it. Chris
Lawrence Reeves
You can search the internet on how to set up a "proxy server" Each computer has a unique ID called a Mac address. When you connect to the internet your modem shows a type of location. A proxy server is a way of fooling the internet into thinking your machine is resident elsewhere. I have tried to set one unsuccessfully to watch RTE and TnaG. That said, I have not given up on trying again someday, many of my friends have done it, and say the results are good. Leo
TG-4 shows are easier to find than the BBC shows. Like these, they are out there somewhere, but are outside my normal search parameters since they are of a more general music nature rather than feature concertina. I've had better luck with google.com as a search enging rather than google.co.uk, or google.ie as they can produce drastically different results. Brian & Eithne Vallely Part1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sg51DRPk_tw&fmt=18 Brian & Eithne Vallely Part2 Brian & Eithne Vallely Part3 Brian & Eithne Vallely Part4 An older show discussing the local differences in the music with a concertina showing up in quite a few places. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4328865734283235449# All of these have Niall Vallely The Highland Sessions - Episode 1 http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4...36240221187107# The Highland Sessions - Episode 2 http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4246371762294571885# The Highland Sessions - Episode 3 http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4083714373098997532# The Highland Sessions - Episode 4 http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2...85544006839071# But give it a week or two and it will probably show up in pieces first, then the rest of the show somewhere on the internet. Like Transatlantic Sessions - S04E02 (BBC 4 20th September 2009) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kCe7nPlUSuA&fmt=18 or Transatlantic Sessions S04-E05 (BBC4 11 October 2009) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNEgKGEDfOk&fmt=18 If you'd like to watch Transatlantic Sessions (6 parts of series 3), it's online at an OK Chinese site partly in English called tudou.com (Loose translation: Tudou=couch potato). They are like a Chinese YouTube. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tudou The 6 episodes are listed below the player. http://www.tudou.com/programs/view/8vL-oE_5HTA/ Thanks Leo
Henrik Müller
...TG-4 shows are easier to find than the BBC shows. ... With the risk of straying away from concertina-related stuff: I have been all over YouTube and found two main sources - "channels": Sanyallana's channel - a Spanish fella with tons of not-only-Irish stuff k4hx1's channel - a Canadian fella, with almost 600 uploads Highlights For me, the most attractive programs are (Sanyallana) TG4's "Ceird an cheoil" series; 12 programs, each with focus on a specific instrument, its most visible exponents and the makers. Since the programs focus on Irish makers, there is no maker in the concertina program (featuring Micheal O'Raghallaigh) but a lot of wonderful playing and an interview with out very own Stephen Chambers. One odd thing is a short glimpse (137 frames) of a very young (8-10?) Micheal and Alistair Anderson... Shed light anyone? /Henrik

A while ago, they were posting with about a week delay, but they seem to have slowed down quite a bit. There is one more, not as extensive as the two you suggest, but they do have some general content including at least one from Niall Vallely in July 2008 from the show "The Highland Sessions". http://www.youtube.com/user/TG4gaeilge Niall Vallely - Malfunction Junction - The Highland Sessions http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IX7n_Gmguiw&fmt=18 (Jews harp and concertina, now that's a combination) Another nice channel with some older videos of Irish music including Tim Collins: http://www.youtube.com/user/clarebannerman The official Comhaltas channel is updated frequently with their offerings http://www.youtube.com/user/comhaltas There doesn't seem to be anything comparable on the other hosting sites like dailymotion.com, but I still check once and a while.
