Lawrence Reeves Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 Here is how I approach playing the musical priest on a 20 keyed instrument. Although the entire tune can be played on the C row, I choose to go onto the g row for the high g and a, also like the g row for a pull high e. My point is that a tune which can be played easily on the C row can add octave playing on the third part for added lift.
David Levine Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 C'mon Lawrence-- we want to hear it.
Lawrence Reeves Posted September 15, 2009 Author Posted September 15, 2009 I will give it try tomorrow afternoon. I may try to post Dr O'Niell, and Lucy Campbell's as well. They all sit very nicely in C, and are very playable. Lucy Campbell's is really not necessary to play in C, but sounds sweeter and more fluid.
Marien Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 Nice tune, this musical priest, isn't it usually in B minor? Marien
Lawrence Reeves Posted September 15, 2009 Author Posted September 15, 2009 Yes B minor is the common setting for the tune. The earliest version I know of recorded is by Paddy Killoran and James Morrison.
