I have just acquired my first duet concertina, a Lachenal Maccann 63 key edeophone and it has got this stamp inside: “J. Gale importer or concertinas & accordions”, wondering if anyone knows anything about it? I can’t find any information about them. The serial number is 3100, would that be early 1900s? I got told this concertina came over from Italy after the war. Interestingly the reeds are tuned to concert pitch (with slight deviations), although the valves are old. Thanks in advance

Sydney, Australia, is set to host its first folk festival in over 40 years. It will be a festival like no other and staged across an entire block of the city's CBD - and using various venues from an 1841 church to two pubs. I have been appointed Artistic Director and as a concertina player I'd like to see a few players, especially English Concertina (I'm biased) at the sessions (I'll give special dispensation to the other systems!). The festival will be staged over the weekend 16/17/18 August and, hopefully, it will become an annual event. Don't say you haven't been warned.

I'm visiting Sydney and the Black Joke Morris between 2-15 February. Any concertina players who would like to meet up to jam? Stephen Selby (Hong Kong)
