This is A 36 key, with a C drone, C/G Wheatsone Linota concertina. It was made in 1918, serial number 27845. This instrument is in good condition. It has been serviced regularly by Tim Collins and Noel Hill since I've had it. I have set up a new You Tube channel to demonstrate playing of the Crane duet concertina- firstly for some of my songs, although I may add some tunes later. The instrument is a 1926, 58-button Wheatstone, steel-reeded duet. Hope you enjoy them. So, this concertina has a lovely tone. I had purchased it, thinking that it would be my thing, but instead fell in love with the piano accordion, meaning that this little beastie has been sitting in it's case, having only ever had a few tunes played on it. It needs a more loving home! Technical info on it: It is a 48-button Stagi, Model A48-S English Concertina Treble Range (it's not super high and squeaky like a lot of them--it's got a nice, rich tone to it). 6-fold Leather Bellows Steel Reeds Weighs a little over three pounds Six sided Made in Italy Mahogany colored wood, with a herringbone edge Leather thumb straps Metal finger braces Highest note is C, lowest is G Like I mentioned, this instrument really hasn't ever been played, so the all of it, bellows included will last a good long time. I'm asking $750 for it. It comes with a black hard case with a handle, which is also brand new. I'm advertising this concertina on behalf of an acquaintance in Belgium who liked the Morse Geordie Tenor concertina so much that he owned two of them. I recently bought the older model, which I'm delighted with, and he has now asked me to advertise the remaining new, unplayed model as he has moved on to other interests. Hello! I'm a new user on this forum so first off wanted to say hello! I've been playing concertina for about 20 years since the age of about 10! I've just bought a new wooden ended wheatstone concertina - my other concertina is a metal-ended and very loud so wanted something a little quieter for acoustic song accompaniment. However, my new concertina has an interesting history which I'm fascinated by and I would to get to the bottom of it. It has the usual Wheatsone label on one side but a very unusual label on the other side which reads: MADE TO ORDER OF T. WALLACE CHURCH, LANCS. WHEATSTONE & CO. MANUFACTURERS, LONDON. The normal label reads: WHEATSTONE & CO. PATENTEES AND 22551 MANUFACTURERS 20, CONDUIT STREET, LONDON, W I bought the concertina from barleycorn concertinas and have been told that to find a Wheatstone with the name of another person is extremely unusual. I've looked up T Wallace on the 1911 census and found that he was 49, living in Church, Lancashire and is described as a 'dealer and repairer of musical instruments'. However I can find no other trace of him or any connection Wheatstone on the internet. Church in Lancashire is very small place. The population now is under 4000 and it was probably smaller in the 1890's. I just wondered if anyone had come across anything similar or had ever heard of a T Wallace who dealt in concertinas or how he would have managed to get Wheatstone to actually add his name to the label! The renowned singer and English concertina player Louisa Jo Killen, formerly better known as Louis Killen, following a gender change a few years ago, has died following a battle with cancer. On his return from America, some years ago, I saw and heard her sing several times, the last time being about 4 years ago at the Cumberland Arms, Byker, in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, on a singers night, prior to her sex change. Hey all.... I like to spend my vacation time volunteering on tall ships. I was thinking of learning to play the concertina to entertain people during tours etc. I used to play trombone/bass back in highschool but haven't had much music experience since. I was leaning towards getting an English concertina cause it just sounded easier to play with one button doing one note reguardless of whether you're pushing or pulling but my understanding is that in the age of sail (18th/19th century) Anglo styles were commonplace on ships. Soooo, my big question is since my primary draw to concertinas is to entertain people with sea shanties on tall ships A) what kind of concertina would be most historicly accurate and are there any good song books or training videos out there specific to sea shanties/nautical music.

I don't know if this video has been posted on here before but I don't remember seeing it. I love this tune and his playing of it and wanted to share it. He is playing a converted tenor-treble Aeola English convertina that goes down 5 notes lower than normal but the fingering is the same as a standard treble. Chris

I will post pictures tonight as soon as I can get them, along with any other specifics I can find. Just wanted to see if there was any interest and go from there. This is a gorgeous instrument that was listed on ebay and privately. It was listed originally at over $3000.00, but in all honesty, we paid $1549.99 for it + shipping. I underwent major spinal surgery and unfortunately am not physically able to play it. Plus, I frankly need the money to chip away at the astronomical amount of medical debt the surgery left me in. I had hopes of keeping the instrument for my children, but we are in need and I'd like to see someone enjoy this fine work of craftsmanship. Hoping to get about what we paid, but am willing to consider reasonable offers. I am meeting with the folks at Petosa in Seattle next week to work up an accurate estimate of it's true market value and entertain their offers (including consignment), but would prefer to sell through this forum if anyone is interested. I'm still trying to sell my Jones Anglo concertina. I'll be at the gathering in Massachusetts this Saturday if anyone wants to try it. Also have a good quality 2 row I had from Chris Alger a few years ago. It's a no name but has real concertina reeds. Was repaired by David Leese at one time. Mahongany ends. Asking $700. Jones 3 row Anglo – 30 buttons. 6 fold bellows. I believe this is what they call a broad reed concertina – good for song accompaniment. Bought from Chris Alger 6 years ago – serviced at Button Box 3 years ago, it is in good working condition. 1 button, the C# on the 3rd row is in an unusual position. Not played much recently as I switched to English. A/F A/Bb C#/Eb A/G G#/Bb C/Eb G#/A C#/Bb A/F C/Eb Asking $1400 or would be willing to trade for a comparable English concertina. I just started learning to take video of myself playing the concertina, and I was wondering if anyone has any tips? Video Cameras Is a webcam sufficient, or do I need something high end? Microphones Is my computer's built-in microphone sufficient? I rock out on a baritone English concertina, and it can sound distorted when I record too close to the mic. How do I fix this? Some notes come out of the right side and others from the left. How do I record both sides at the same time? Special Effects How much work is it to set up special effects, and is it worth it? Are blue screens that expensive? Trained Animals I've noticed very few trained animals in Youtube concertina videos. Is there a technical reason for this, some nuance in animal behavior I'm not aware of, or did the trend of animals in music videos simply fail to coincide with the folk revival? What are some things you've noticed about exceptional Youtube videos, whether awesome or awful? -
Following on from the Aeola 64 key baritone-treble concertina, serial number 28617, that was recently sold on Ebay, I came across a link to a Canadian website with an article about concertinas. By coincindence, it happens to feature the next concertina down in the ledgers from 28617, 28618, also a 64 key baritone-treble, which has survived and is owned by someone in Canada. Both are wrongly marked in the ledgers as a model 20, which is a baritone only. It should be a model 16. There is also quite a bit on the history of concertinas, albeit with the odd mistake here and there. Quite possibly, these big Aeolas were made specially as band instruments, either for playing in concertina bands or for the Salvation Army.
