Hi folks, Unfortunately I need to sell my concertina. It has been my main concertina for a good few years now and has served me well. This instrument is one of the earlier models and as such has a beautiful tone you won't find on the newer instruments. These are very hard instruments to find. A new Suttner with the same specs is €5000 with a four year waiting list but these are slightly different instruments compared to the earlier models. It's an airtight instrument with very fast action and has been well played and looked after over the years. This would be a perfect instrument for an intermediate to advanced player. I hope to institute an ongoing acoustic music venue here in Alexandria, VA at the Grounded Coffee Shop. This cafe regularly supports live music every Sunday. It tends toward duos and trios with a country influence. The owners have agreed to try out a more folk oriented music venue. The first is Saturday Oct 29th from 1:00- 4:00 PM. On the 22nd and 23rd of September, the Irish concertina legends Cormac Begley (Co. Kerry) and Jack Talty (Co.Clare) can be heard in two intimate, all-acoustic, concerts in The Netherlands and Belgium. The weekend after that, on the 24th and 25th of September, they give a two-day workshop where they will be teaching tunes, technique, interpretation and many other aspects of Irish traditional concertina playing. The location of the concert on the 22nd of September is Baarn, which is very close to the city of Utrecht. The Friday after that they will be playing in Mechelen, Belgium. The workshop is located in Oud-Beijerland which is near Rotterdam and about 70 minutes drive from Schiphol Airport. Evening all, I thought i'd share my recent emotional roller coaster with my new Lachenal 20 key with brass reeds. it's had some pretty heavy use what with my renewed motivation upgrading from a Scarlatti and to my dismay 2 nights ago I realised the a1 button not sounding! being a novice I had no idea why this might be- broken reed, a broken mechanism- i envisaged an expensive repair job and stewed over the posts describing these instruments as inferior and prone to breaking down. Boo hoo i thought. However, i stumbled across some threads here regarding fluff/debris in the reeds- with great trepidation I opened my anglo and after working out which reed it was I gently flicked it with a stanley blade and gave it a jolly good blow- Success! The note returns, and I can plough on with my Zelda iterations. What relief. The highs and lows of a new instrument. A great satisfaction in diagnosing and treating this simple problem myself. Has anyone had similar experiences?

Hello Concertina.net concertina gurus. I am the proud owner of a Crane duet, Wheatstone, with a Salvation Army tag. The box itself is rosewood I believe with brown leather bellows, somebody at SA decided it should be their favorite color: um "black"... and has done a rather poor job of refinishing the instrument. Ah but here's the quirk - it only has 35 buttons, but the right side highest accidental key on the top left row, normally Eb, is instead a clearly in tune "A" note. This gives the player a final high A note to complete the A minor scale. I wonder if this was by design/request, or just an accident of construction/restoration?

I'm just starting up and looking for a good used concertina- Anglo in C/G. 30 Button I'm not looking to spend a fortune, as I'm not sure it will be "my thing." I am weary of all the cheaper ones on Ebay. I'd prefer to spend a little extra and not get a piece of junk. I find that forums like this tend to be a wealth of knowledge. It's a Stagi English A 48 S Tenor without decorations, it has a stagi bag with it. The bag cost about 60 USD(but I paid in SEK, so it's approximately), the concertina itself cost 653 USD(paid both in SEK ofc) It's barely played and I think it had decent quality, but I can't say since I do not know much about these. Been in it's bag for most of the year. The reason for selling it is not due to any disappointments with the product but because I can't play it very well at all. I am a keyboardist and I'm not very experienced in that area yet either. So I'm probably going to buy a melodica to "replace" it, being a portable free reed instrument as well, difference being that I know how to play keys and have had experience with playing melodicas before. If anyone has any other idea of where I could ask on the net about the price, I'd be happy to receive a link to the place. Morning all, I am new to the anglo concertina past 6months and working my way through Gary Coover's ession tunes book which is great., I have a scarletti (budget i know) 20 key. I'm finding many of the single note tunes a bit "hollow" and have been adding 'vamp' cords to try and beef things in up/add a bit off life. Is this acceptable, am I going to bastardise the intended sound of the pieces? I'm trying to get my ear in by listening to lost of session tunes on spotify etc..... If anyone else does this what's your approach? ON another note in the same vein, what about oom-pah cords? I find these a particular challenge to figure out on the anglo due to the necessary bellows changes, likewise drone notes- non sooner have you found the note it disappears as the main melody moves on with a bellows change by necessity! I'm thinking these are probably common problems that many beginners come across. At the back of my mind I feel the tunes may sound less hollow on a better instrument with more notes and perhaps that's why i'm feeling this! thoughts a welcome

Hi everyone. I´m sure I´m not the first Maccann player who ask this. I have been playing this system for a year now and I have the feeling of not getting better. There are no videos I could find of Maccann duet teaching and there are only a couple videos on Youtube of people playing it. Also living in Buenos Aires, Argentina does not help. I´m the only concertina player in maybe the whole country (and this is a big country) So I would be very thankful to anyone who can give me some tips or info. Anyone giving lessons online? Thank you so much! -

For Sale: Wheatstone Aeola 48 button English Concertina. Serial #24873, Key of C. I purchased this Concertina from Barleycorn Concertinas in England, and recently (2013) had it serviced at The Button Box in Massachusetts. Falling within the dear and lost years periods of the Wheatstone company, this Ebony ended concertina has unique fretwork, and is in perfect playing condition. All buttons play clearly and in perfect pitch. I am located in the Western United States. I have never used this forum before, but am aware of the 2% donation policy.
