Hi All I've got a customer who purchased a 30 key Lachenal Anglo concertina but it came without its baffles. I know a lot of people (myself included) play without baffles or remove the baffles, but this gentleman would like the concertina 100% original (or as close as can be if you see what i mean) Bearing in mind the original baffles have probably long disappeared, where can i get, and what is the correct material to make a realistic/authentic set of baffles from, or does any of the kind members out there have a set of baffles they would sell to me to help out? Any thoughts or help with this greatly appreciated and if it helps, apparently the baffles that were in this concertina were white. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide

Forgive me if this was already asked, but I haven't found this information on the forum. What are the standard sizes of different brand's anglos? From my (limited) knowledge Lachenals are usually 6 1/4'' AF, while Jeffries are a bit smaller (6'' if I'm not mistaken), is it correct? And what about others?

Hey guys, Many thanks in advance for the help as I am a complete layman when it comes to concertinas. I was just wondering whether anyone could tell me anything about this concertina I have attached pictures of. Helpfully it isn't marked anywhere with a maker but to my eye it is nice quality. The only thing I think I know about it is that its an Anglo-German set up and made from rosewood veneer. If anyone knows anything about this instrument then I'd love to hear it, Google has failed me! Anthony

The instrument pictured here is: Antique Concertina with makers mark on one end: C.Jeffries Maker 38 notes/basses Patterned fillagree metal on both ends with the hand rest and leather. All in good condition. No damage to the internal reeds. In really good condition for its age ... i do not know how to play it personally, but the notes work and it sounds really lovely (I would so love to hear someone play this little beauty properly)... it only shows some wear to the outer edges of the external leather on two corners, probably due to sitting. I am not exactly sure... but I think the key may be C/F (i play many musical instruments, including a piano accordion, but never did learn the concertina) Approx size: 150mm or 6 inches tall when closed completely. Leather case still in good condition Unfortunately the leather hinge attaching the lid to the bottom part of the case has come away ... in fact - it happened since I took the photos (which shows it still joined) ... The lid is still sitting perfectly on top of the case and I do not imagine it would be hard to fix... more photos can be supplied... Lining showing some wear. Approx size 190mm or 7 1/2 inches tall and approx 200mm or 8 inches in diameter or width. Our family owned a music shop in the 1950's in Perth, and this instrument was one of many lovely old instruments that came to us through trade ins etc. We used to keep them on display in the shop and then when my parents retired, the instruments were stored. We have researched this instrument and understand that it is the best and most sought after.. our asking price is £5,000 GBP ( which works out to approx. $8,100 AUD or $6,255 USD) Our location is Perth, Western Australia, and any Postage/Shipping/Insurance costs will have to be calculated and added to the purchase price for the purchaser to pay. I apologize if this topic has been covered elsewhere. I didn't find much in a cursory glance through the topic titles. I have a C/G anglo on which I primarily play melody (mostly irish session music), but recently have been trying to arrange accompaniments for songs. I realize that the layout of the instrument and the required bellow direction changes are somewhat limiting. For now I have mainly stuck to holding sustained chords, which gives a nice 'drone' effect that fits some select songs. (Actually in most cases I find I prefer the sound of just playing the root note and the fifth, and occasionally tapping the third for this.) I was curious if anyone had suggestions for (or examples of) more interesting things to try to give concertina accompaniment more 'texture' (perhaps akin to strumming or picking patterns on a guitar). I have tried playing arpeggios, but in most cases find the sound rather jarring and hard to sing over. any thoughts? Would looking into resources targeted at english concertinas be of use, or is the technique too different?

So I finally made up my mind to get a squeezebox for song accompaniment. I've never played one before, so I figured out an Anglo would be the easiest choice for a folksy beginner. However, I'm still in doubt whether I should opt for a 20-button or a 30-button model. To be more precise: I'm aiming for good old folklore sound - think Peter Bellamy, A.L.Lloyd , Roy Harris etc., shanties, ballads and all that. Nothing fancy, just some basic accompaniment. Also, I'm a woman with a rather high-pitched voice, and I'm mostly planning to accompany myself but could do with a small band (say, a concertina, a tin whistle and two singers). What would you recommend? 20 or 30? Thank you very much in advance.

Anglo Aeola concertina by Wheatstone in C/G with 40 keys including a drone button giving C in both directions plus an air button. The instrument is tuned to A440 with 8 fold bellows supplied with a lined hard case. The righthand frame is stamped R 7a, indicating that this is a model 7a, i.e. Aeola. Wheatstone sales ledger SD04 confirms that this is a 7a, and gives a sale date of 8 April 1972. The bellows bear an internal label "Vervaadig dear: Wimpie croukamp 012 3794601" and an inscription 1/4/0003. This may be Dutch or Afrikaans. I'm selling my GD AC Norman Anglo to get cash to buy a Jeffries Duet . It's in excellent condition , and comes with a hard case . It's the 30 key with Lachenal layout , with a bright sound and good action , all reeds work and it's airtight . Probably one of the best accordion reeded Anglos . You dont see many GDs, the waiting list got a new one is about 2 years . £1500 plus postage , or near offers . I can provide photos and YouTube clips on request .

Hello, I'm trying to do some restoration on a small George Jones concertina. It needs alot of work but first up is the non-functioning air button. I think this could be very easy. Here is a picture of the sprung air-button hinge. Perhaps all I need to do is re-glue that leather to the block? Or should I replace that piece of leather hinge altogether? It looks to me like the leather is in still usable shape but kinked from being off for so long. The concertina needs at least 1 pad and has no straps or strap buttons, but I see those readily on eBay. Everything else is there. (slightly off my own topic but the inside of my Wheatstone looks a lot nicer than the George Jones) Chris

On the 22nd and 23rd of September, the Irish concertina legends Cormac Begley (Co. Kerry) and Jack Talty (Co.Clare) can be heard in two intimate, all-acoustic, concerts in The Netherlands and Belgium. The weekend after that, on the 24th and 25th of September, they give a two-day workshop where they will be teaching tunes, technique, interpretation and many other aspects of Irish traditional concertina playing. The location of the concert on the 22nd of September is Baarn, which is very close to the city of Utrecht. The Friday after that they will be playing in Mechelen, Belgium. The workshop is located in Oud-Beijerland which is near Rotterdam and about 70 minutes drive from Schiphol Airport. I'm tuning a 30 key lachenal at the moment, and having some trouble with 2 of the reeds on the top row right side - I keep trying to sharpen them but it gets flatter. Both are long enough that it's not because of filing in the wrong place by mistake. On the charts I've seen, both should be d# in a lachenal, but the ones in mine are both eb, I don't know if that has anything to do with the problem. ANyone have any idea why this might be?

Hi all! I have just orders a Marcus Anglo which will be ready in roughly 4/5 months. I've only recently started playing and have a very bad Hohner d40 which is pretty much unplayable and my tutor has advised me to get something better ASAP. Would anyone be prepared to loan me something for a few months? I'd happily pay of course and would very much look after it! If anyone can help me out, let me know. I'm based in Kent

I'm posting on behalf of a friend who has two concertinas for sale: C Jeffries Anglo in Bb/F concert pitch, 39 buttons, metal ends and buttons. It's a very nice instrument that plays well. Would buy it myself, if I could afford it! See pictures.. Looking for £4000. Lachenal Treble English Concertina, 48 buttons, wooden ends, metal buttons. Not sure about the reeds, but steel, I think. Can't really comment on how it plays, as I'm not an English concertina player, but seems in good playing order. £800. Any questions (such as the "extra" buttons on the Jeffries, just ask. Hopefully the pictures should give you a reasonable idea.

I'm having to liberate some cash in order to, what else, buy another concertina. So, selling my 30b (plus D drone) Suttner A2 C/G anglo concertina. It's #281 and has recently been cleaned and examined by Greg Jowaisas. Very responsive and a great session instrument. Has a D drone. That's right, D. Otherwise, Jeffries tuning. Listing it here for $4,500 (plus shipping) and will donate $90 to concertina.net upon sale. Comes with case. I live in Southern California, so would prefer to sell to someone in the states. I'm selling my Tedrow 30B Zephyr Anglo, with Wheatstone note arrangement. It's a wonderful instrument, and I played the living heck out of it for about eight years. I wore out the first set of bellows and handstraps. The bellows were replaced by Mr. Tedrow, and are played in, but in excellent shape. A local (Seattle-area) leatherworker produced the hand straps, still in like-new condition. This is a "hybrid" style instrument with accordion reeds. The bellows are 7-fold, which is helpful because the instrument is unusually small in dimension (6" between opposite flats on the faceplate). I'll prefer a U.S. buyer if possible (I'm in Seattle), but will entertain other locales. I believe these are presently selling for $2.5K, and I'm asking $2K in view of the visible wear (especially cosmetic flaking of the finish) but otherwise excellent playability. Please PM me if interested. I'll entertain reasonable offers, but am hoping to stick near to this price partly in the interest of paying the tax man. Hi All, Could anyone direct me to a shantyman or woman giving lessons in Boston or nearby areas? I play a C/G Anglo and am primarily interested in Shanties, but I would like to know more about dance tunes as well as accompaniment. In general, I have a lot to learn. I've had my concertina for fifteen years, but I never really progressed past playing a handful of tunes. Thanks.
