We're making a lightning visit for a family reunion in Canada during the May holidays and have arranged to play a house concert in Shelburne, Ontario, which I gather is not too far from Toronto. The idea is that we give a workshop in the afternoon and a concert in the evening. For more info and arrangements please either contact the host: John Parkinson, or send a PM or mail to Robin Harrison of this forum. Hope to meet some of you there. Adrian

Advance reservations, tel. 01603 713 836 Our programme is called The Lady, the Buffon and other stories - British popular music through the ages, and features Susanna Borsch on recorders and voice, and me on anglo concertina and voice. "In a concert of rich tapestry of tunes and songs from a variety of composers and styles, the duo Dapper’s Delight present their take on historical popular music sung and played on the unlikely combination of recorder and concertina. The programme takes its lead from the family of tunes known under various names, but most commonly as The Buffoon. There are hundreds of versions of the basic tune which itself is based on the pan-European ground, the passamezzo moderno. The selection comes from sources as diverse as a renaissance dance collection, a 16th-century German lute book, a 17th-century dancing compendium and several 19th-century Morris dances. The programme also contains several broadside ballads - popular songs from the 17th and 18th centuries that were sold and performed on the streets, other popular songs that appear in both composed and traditional sources and the selection is completed with a Cockney music hall song and even the odd pop song." Earlier this summer, we played a few pieces on a live radio programme during the re-opening of the Mauritshuis Art Gallery in The Hague. I’ve just realised that this broadcast is actually available online, and I’m fairly sure it is accessible from outside of the Netherlands. http://opiumop4.radio4.nl/uitzending/281448/Opium%20op%204.html The broadside ballad “Once I Loved a Maiden Fair” is after 1:05:01, and there are also a couple of instrumental pieces earlier at 0:41:43 and 0:49:20. All are taken from the programme of our new CD, which we hope will be out in time for Christmas. Adrian

House concert anyone? We're planning a small tour of Northern England in late April and early May, performing our usual repertoire of early English popular songs and dances. We'll give a concert as part of an early music series in Ilkey, Yorkshire on Tuesday, 30th of April and play a couple of house concerts in York (5/5) and Cumbria (10/5). We also have a few other unconfirmed options on the burner, but would be pleased to add to the above dates. So should anybody fancy organising a house concert, or would like us to play at a private party, wedding, etc. at this time, please send me a p.m., or contact us via our website. Our confirmed dates and further information can be found here and we hope to meet some of you soon. Adrian
