  1. Sold at $179.00 Just a note for anyone interested. I've seen this concertina and heard Delbert play it. Its in very good condition and sounds nice as well.
  2. Greetings! My Stagi A-18 is going up for sale on Ebay today, April 18th 09. I will set it for 'No Reserve' to see how it does. It is in good shape, with hard case, all buttons and straps in good order. It is the brown model. The Bb (left hand) will occasionally 'flutter' and stick. I have done a gentle disassembly and check on it. Can do so again if it needs this. The file attached to this posting indicates where the 18 buttons fit in the English 48 button pattern layout. Regards, Del Stagi_A18_button_layout.bmp
  3. All FYI - going to eBay under my Delbert_wb account there. Thanks Del
  4. Chris, If I recall from past postings, the herrington is one of the square models, like Jim Besser also owns. Correct?
  5. Could you provide a little history, ie repairs, how long have you had it, who had it before you, any other particulars you'd care to share. Howdy, Happy, This is not my instrument, simply my notification. Elderly Instruments is a music store in Lansing, Michigan in the US with an emphasis in mail-order sales. They are a reputable company, but mau not be especially knowledgeable on concertinas. I would suggest that you call them or send an e-mail to ask them about it. Regards Del
  6. All, These are complex arrangements, multi-part in PDF, with MP3 to listen. This looks very promising. http://www.musicado.de/musicado/html/noten-download.html I would ask that someone record one of these tunes, and post for us to hear it - on a concertina Regards Del
  7. All, Just to close the circle, the Herrington Anglo I posted here and on eBay has sold for $1,075. I put it on eBay to ensure the world had a fair opportunity to bid. In the end it was won by my friend Cary Kuminecz, who lives approximately 20 miles from me. How interesting that it should sell this way. Cary has offered visitation and (occasional) playing rights. Regards, Del

  11. Seanc This is an accordion-reeded instrument. This is in the category which is most often compared to Edgley, Morse, Tedrow, and, at times, Marcus instruments. Thanks for asking, Del
  12. I am pretty confident that the "who" in that sentence refers to Mr. Alexandre. While not strictly impossible, it would be very unusual, in my opinion, for the reference to be to Debain. -David The original: .... 1839 vergibt Debain seine diesbezüglichen Rechte an J. Alexandre, der im gleichen Jahr das "brevet de 10 ans" erhält auf ein "nouvel instrument dit Concertina ou Piano Concertina". The 'who' in the sentence is Mr. Alexandre. That 'der im gleichen Jahr' grammatically assigns gender in the 'der' of the definite article, Nominative case, masculine, singular. Yours truly, Del the Pedant 'will translate for concertinas'
  13. I have a Herrington 30 button C/G Anglo for sale - Wheatstone standard layout, metal ends, 7-fold bellows, with baffles, wooden case, and having new straps. It was recently given a once over, adjusted and re-tuned by Harold Herrington. It's in very good condition. It does not seem to know as many tunes as I had anticipated. I bought this used from this site, and find that while waiting to procure an Anglo, I became addicted to my Stagi miniature 18 key English. I prefer the tonal ubiquitity of the English to the 'now where did they put THAT note' of the Anglo. Harold tells me he made this specifically for a Texas regional entertainer. I believe the age is approaching ten (10) years, but may be wrong. MODIFIED INFORMATION FOLLOWS - - - as of August 15th I would like to get ( fair value in the vicinity of approximately $1,200.US ) or entertain serious offers. In the US, but will ship to anywhere. NEW INFO: I will be posting this instrument on E-Bay over the weekend at a reserve of zero/0. I will add a few photographs and even possibly sound clips. My E-Bay ID is 'Delbert_WB' QUESTION: Does anyone need to see the internal mechanisms on the box? Will slice it open if needed. For those who may be unfamiliar, this instrument is an accordion-reeded Anglo concertina. I would assess it as being suitable for use as: - a beginner's instrument. It plays very well, is sturdy, and is not too large of a jump, relatively speaking, in initial cost - a step up from a lesser quality instrument (price is the best guide to quality gradations in this regard) If you have gone through the Rochelle/Stagi/Hohner phase, this marks an improvement, while not a jump into serious (!) expense - an everyday working/playing instrument If you seek an instrument which may be played at will, taken on a trip, given a lot of use, this may fill that niche. If you do not want to throw the Dipper onto the top of the bus for the journey, I would suggest that you also not throw this instrument onto the top of the bus. However, it would do nicely in the boot, given proper attention to ambient temperature in the vehicle. - musical use where a moderated tone would be useful In some cases we may choose to have an instrument for performance or home recording, where the tone should blend well, and not necessarily own the surrounding air. This could be that instrument. - cat abatement I have not seen this instrument put to use in this manner, but I do believe that approaching a feline while playing would result in a beneficial cat absence after a moderate period. If not at first successful, then I would recommend use of a different key, such as the key which locks your house. Only be certain that you and said cat are on opposing sides of the door. Other than that, I will be pleased to entertain any queries through this site.
  14. What would be the result of baffles on left; open on right? Thinking this would result in slightly louder right side relative to left, I am considering this as an experimental step. For a melody-on-right style, is this of any value? Del (you are correct - I am not the man-of-all-work)
  15. Wendy, That is great! Both the singing and playing were good, and very enjoyable. More! Del
  16. Frank Hows does one say 'Whoo Hoo!' in Canadian? Tell me a price, and I am ordering one, Thanks Del
  17. All, Twenty-eight (28) of you participated in the poll (thank you!) in this thread: http://www.concertina.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=5620 However, I only find six (6) names to contact, and invite to participate. If you are interested in participating, please send me a note through C.net, and I will make sure you are invited to participate. If you missed out, please take the poll as well. Regards Del
  18. Chris, I have always considered your door to be one-way-only for concertinas. I did not realize that they occasionally slip away from you. If this happens often I may have to send a request to you. Regards Del
  19. Retort for Alan, minus grass cutting: The artistic laundryman speaking to himself: Should I press or draw? Man builds largest concertina ever seen in France in the shape of a crustacean. It was a huit stone Crabb. Q Why did the young dancer always drive with his parents to the side? A Because he was a Morris Minor. Del
  20. Bob, Ain't kiddin' I saw this on their website (http://www.irelandindixie.com/): - - - - - - - Workshop and Event Changes: Due to a scheduling error on our part, the "Make Your Own Beer and Mead" workshop will be combined with the "Irish Cooking" workshop. - - - - - - - ' Whiskey, you're the devil. Beer, you're the cook.' Del
  21. If we are the wise, thoughtful group which we seem, at times, to be, we must have some concertina proverbs amongst us? 'If you press me, and pull me I will bellow, but if you shake me I will quaver' Del
