  1. Thank you for your very helpful reply. When you have to play an F or A note, when the bellows are being pulled out, you are not playing any notes with your left hand, only pressing on the air button on the right side, and then notes on the right side? What is a duet concertina? If you are for instance playing an F on the right hand, what notes could I play on the left hand to give the song more body (if any)? Thank you again, Levi
  2. Hello. I have a 20 button concertina that is in the key of C/G. On the C chord, I press 3,4,5 buttons pressing the bellows in. When I change the fingerings on the C chord (buttons 1,9,10), and open the bellows, it doesn't sound right because it raises the octave. How do you play a complete measure in a song staying in the C chord or any chord, so that it sounds correct? I have 3 books, and none of them go into detail on chord playing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Levi & sara
  3. Hello, And thank you for that link to that website. I greatly appreciate that! I am not good with these websites, do you know where I might find Alan Day's Concertina tutorial on that website? I clicked on where it said tutorial, but this other thing came up by another author. Thank you, Levi
  4. Hello. I was wondering if anyone knows where to find Alan Day's Concertina Tutorial? I typed it into google, a page came up that had a link to his website, and when you click on the link, the page comes up blank, and states that it cannot be found. Any help would be appreciated, Thank you, Levi

  11. Hello, I was wondering if anyone knows where I can purchase the book "La Concertina : Method for Diatonic Concertina". I looked on Button box site, they had it, but they are out of stock right now, and don't know when they will be getting them in. I also check concertina.com, and the book is listed, but there are no prices, and I don't know if it is in stock, and if it is, how to go about purchasing it. I haven't been able to find it on any other sites, but if anyone knows of any concertina sites that sell books, I'll give it a shot! Thank you, Levi & Sara
  12. I am replying to this since the photos didn't come up, so I am going to try this again~!
  13. Hello again, I took apart my concertina, and put some talcom powder on the valves, then pressed down firm on the instrument, to see if the leak was coming from the valves. There was some air that came out, see attached photos of before and after, and as you can see, there are air holes around the valves. Is it normal for any air to seep out? Also, there is air coming from the bellow gasket. What should the gasket be replaced with? Where can it be purchased from? Thank you, Levi & Sara
  14. Thank you so very much for your answers to my questions. That was very good information. The Button Box sells new valve pads, they are cardboard, felt, and then leather bottoms. If I would locate the one that is leaking, and if the repositioning doesn't work, should I replace it with a new one, as a last resort? As far as replacing it, I don't know if they are waxed or glued on, how do you tell which it is? Have you ever replaced them with new valve pads that are waxed or glued on? Thank you very much again, Levi & Sara
  15. Daniel, Hello, and thank you for writing back and for sending the photo. Take care, Levi & SAra
  16. Thank you all for your advice and answers. As far as replacing the valves with leather, the type of leather to use would be a "shammy" with flesh side of shammy touching the wood?, and the hair side would be the glued side? Would it be better to remove the felt that is on there, or just glue the shammy to the felt? Thank you all again, Levi & Sara
  17. Hello, I recently purchased an older Riccordi Concertina, I will attach some photos. I believe that it is leaking a little air from one of the air valve pads when you push in or out on the bellows, without holding a note, you can hear the air. Does anyone know where to get the pad material to replace them? The material is rubber covereded with felt. Thank you, and any help would be appreciated. I typed in this topic under the search forum, and nothing came up relating to the valves. Levi & SAra
  18. Bill, Thank you for taking the time to write back to me. Thank you for all of your information. I have another question! From what I am understanding, the early German Concertinas (1880's somewhere in that era), they were using Accordian reeds, is that correct? And then the English took the Anglo and replaced the accordian reeds with Concertina reeds, is that correct? So the english concertinas now days that are anglo, they have 2 concertina reeds, one for each note, one going in, and one going out? Am I on the right track now? Thank you again, and look forward to reading your reply! Levi & Sara Daniel, Hello, and thank you for writing back, and answering my questions. Do you know where I could find a picture of the "ganged" reeds? Are they similar to harmonica reeds? Thank you, Levi & Sara

  20. Yes. Yes. That varies. Only concertinas of traditional English-style construction use concertina reeds, all others use accordion-type reeds. Except for those made by Jurgen Suttner, which are made like traditional English instruments. Thank you for your replies again, Stephen. I just had a couple more questions. Do all English Concertinas make only one note per button, wheather you pull out or push in? And from what you wrote, I am understanding that the Concertina reeds only make one note weather it is pushed in or pulled out, and the accordian reeds make 2 notes, one when pushed in, and the other when pulled out. Is this correct? I am very new to this, and your answers have helped me out a lot! As far as the Anglo concertinas, the expensive ones, what type of reeds do they use? What do they look like? Because you said above that the cheap ones have accordian type reeds like the concertina that I have. How do the expensive anglo concertinas reeds differ, if at all? Would you happen to know what type of reeds are in the German Scholer concertinas? Do they look like the one I have? Thank you again for all your help. Levi & Sara
  21. Thank you for your reply Stephen. As far as the "high ones" you mean just the high notes? There are ten buttons on each side, and on the low side, should they all have the valves? And as far as the high side, how many of them should have the valves? Do they make Anglo Concertinas without using the Accordian reeds? Or do all Anglos have Accordian reeds? Because we emailed someone on another site, and they said that if they are German made Concertinas that they usually use accordian reeds. Thank you again for your anwsers, they are greatly appreciated, Levi & Sara
  22. Hello again, I took the advice of someone that wrote back to me yesterday about the Riccordi concertinas, but under the search, out of the 9 that came up, 3 of them were the topics that I wrote about, and the 2 replies. And the other 6 did not answer any of my questions, they were mostly about purchasing riccordi concertinas. I have attached a photo of my Riccordi. Just was wondering how similar this Riccordi is to the Stagi? Does the Stagi use Accordian reeds? Are they the same as the photo attached? I will attach a photo of the inside of the concertina as well so that you can see the reeds. According to the photo, some of the "leather flaps are missing" do they need to be put on there? Thank you, Levi & sara
  23. I have a Riccordi Concertina, it seems to play well. Does anyone know anything about the Riccordi company? How is the Riccordi differerent from the Stagi Concertinas? Do all anglo concertinas have accordian reeds? Any help would be greatly appreiciated, thank you. Levi & Sara
