Oh, it's a MacCann alright, the layout is that of the "old" Wheatstone 67 with the top right-hand row of "squeekers" ommited and the top left C# filled in. Probably was originally in high-pitch (like the 2 old Lachenals I have). It shows all the signs of a long term school band instrument, replaced case, bellows, ends,..spotty change of valves etc. Could very well have been shifted up to Bb......

I had wild dreams about that one and was prerpared to go to 2100 UKP.......But......"She who must be obeyed" made short work of that idea......Shucks...

Double Cases, Pros And Cons
Jack Bradshaw replied to Jim Besser's topic in General Concertina Discussion
Just a note that sometimes you can pick up a used chemnitser (w/ solid case) for less than the price of a case..... (Mine's 14 x 8.5 x 8 inches inside) -

If I've gotten anything out of all of this, it's that "noodling" at a session by beginners is the obvious application of the "midi" (or other electrifed and quiet) concertina with earphones ! Guess I better resurect that project.......

Concertina Hand Straps problem
Jack Bradshaw replied to LDT's topic in Instrument Construction & Repair
I've made quick and easy straps for the kids concertinas out of Velcro strapping...easy and easily adjustable too .... EDIT: come to think of it I made the thumb straps on my english (right behind me) out of it ...comfortable......of course, I never got the hang of the English...... -
indeed... curiosity has me gripped. Sorry it's not about the concertina, though, Dirge. Unfortunatly neither a 3-wheeler or a concertina but......anyway... http://www.evalbum.com/1166

Tuning Bellow set-up question
Jack Bradshaw replied to Jon C.'s topic in Instrument Construction & Repair
Where should it be located? I would think it would be on the bottom, but it would have gravity working against it.. I wouldn't think it would have to be a long tongue. I was thinking of a valve fastened on the side rather than the end..... -
Not sure the moderators will allow you to sell a still on this site.... Happy to assist in sampling the results though ;) (Has to be an improvement on 45 South) MC You can legally distill your own here in NZ, so selling stills is fine... I wish someone would buy the concertina though. I need the money to buy a concertina. So, what would you buy ? (configuration-wise, that is) I have to live vicariously at the moment as business went off a cliff. (still working on the electric car though) Jack

Oh, I don't know....the "old farts" comment was pretty much on target...........

How Is A Concertina Played Backward?
Jack Bradshaw replied to Perry Werner's topic in General Concertina Discussion
The old station Magnecorders were full track mono......we used to splice sections to get reverse audio all the time.... -
Giving up so soon on the Crane? I quote from the Ebay description: "I have become a Maccann fan, so am selling to upgrade". Needs no further comment, really. How true...once bitten.......

Probably the reason these seem to be all I can play..... This one already seems to be too high............

Yep....them pesky critters just keep poppin' up.................

How about this guy...... Here's a real (and typical) request......10 minutes ago..... "Hey Grandpa, Can you play this French song? You have until tomorrow, N loves it: "

I dunno.....personally, I like the "lived-in" look......you couldn't do that on purpose! Too bad it's not a MacCann !
