  1. Funny, during open mic nights I will post describe a medley I had just finished playing as "And that was X car pileup" X being anywhere from 6 to 10
  2. This video reveals one possible reason behind my Concertina addiction - bellows glue sniffing! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNF2jlm2Rkg
  3. Your forgetting the first rule of Concertina Dynamics. "For every action there is an equal unpleasant audience reaction."
  4. Not to forget Brian Peter's interpretation of Dallas rag and These are from my early experimental phase of recreational concertina usage. http://duckylovestwowomen.bandcamp.com/track/frozen http://duckylovestwowomen.bandcamp.com/track/concertina-506a
  5. They might have forget on that run. The "I hate the celebrity voices" facebook group has posts back to 2008 There's no money left in the state to pay for midly amusing new annoucements and I don't know if they had to pay royalties on some of the others. Some of the more annoyning ones seemed to have dropped from the schedule.
  6. with regret I had to cancel the workshop, but I did see Brian perform at the Island music center on Sunday afternoon. before the show even started there was an impromptu get together in the lobby of fiddles, dulcimer, concertina from Bainbridge's "More luck to us". Brian jumped in with his melodeon. During the show the stage served as a handy fourth instrument for percusion.
  7. The Washington state Ferries have Local 'Celebrities' do their safety and security taped annoucements. I never quite know when the crew will queue it up. At least this time it's the director of the Seattle Symphony and not the hydroplane racer or that crazy TV gardener.
  8. Just one more suggestion, which I didn't think to try. Since the EC doesn't have the handbar to hide the velcro on, possibly to just secure the mics around one's wrists?
  9. A few notes I have observed with the microvox. I play in differnt non traditional open mic's which are generally amplified. Sometimes I find myself in jam sessions with full drum kit, electric & bass guitars. Can't compete there without electricity... To minimize stress on the cords and errant pops & other noise. 1. I use a padded guitar neck stap with my Morse. Partially for hands free use or to sling it across my back when going to get drinks, partially as a wiring platform. 2. I mount the power supply for the Microvox Mic's on the padded side of the strap on my left. As I move the concertina out or around it keeps the RCA jacks relatively steady. So If I decide to play some notes overhead & behind me it does not rip the mics out. 3. I switched to the smaller AAA power supply. I leave volume up to the pros running the board. I replaced the four Phillips screws on the plastic box with Velcro hinges. so I can check or replace the battery quickly. 4. To further elimiate stress & pops on the mic cords I use a Line6 Digital wireless transmitter & reciver. The transmitter goes in my pocket and plugs into the Microvox supply. This gives me about 100' line of sight to jump on the dance floor with the ladies or run to the bar for drinks while still playing. I think this also helps buffer the mic inputs. 5. The wireless receiver plugs into a BOSS OC-3 superoctave pedal. I'm starting to experiment with shifting my low end frequences on demand, creating some deep harmonies 6. Gain and sensitivy are the fundemental problems with these mics. You can very easily pick up the whole room with non clean amplifier modeling, or go bats with feedback. Lowering tone range helps as does just not trying to compete for loudest person.
  10. Was it this one? Ah yes, from the "half off" sale.
  11. It's getting colder and wetter in Washington but the occaisonal semi-dry day comes and the cold reduces the sound attenuation. Commuting to Seattle on the ferry, might as well get a little fun out of going to work.
  12. not quitee a cartoon, a GIF animation that I created http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/100/l_85009eeaa3594a43a18da463f1596d57.gif
  13. Very interesting, what I listened to so far of the differnt flights. BTW, Did you play during intermissions for Paundy at one time, a few years back?
  14. This is my venue during good commuting days, the steel and glass covered upper passenger sitting area on the ferries MV Tacoma and MV Wenatchee. Llike a minuture Hollywood bowl, it reflects and amplifies the Concertina sound http://www.youtube.com/user/produckity?feature=mhum
  15. Back in 2005-2006 I had taken up Origami because I needed a hobby after treating my sleep apnea. I was also writing short MIDI music on the computer at the time, so I was thinking I needed to combine music and folding when I passed my first 20 button Concertina in the pawn shop window.... This is some pretty nice work on Par with Robert Lang's creations. Some of the photo's look like he treats them with a coating afterword.
  16. Effectively I have two and a half fingers on the right hand for Anglo. My right ring finger is crooked from a crushed and later rebuilt knuckle. It's a strong and fast as any other, but doesnt line up and also pushes the pinkie out of line.
  17. I was relaying the story tonight of The lark in the morning store in Pike place market which went out of business and is now occupied by a Hat store. It was a Nice place to see both strange & ethnic instruments, fairly nice list of videos and books for all kinds of instruments. Terrible knowledge of concertinas. At the time there were 2 small wood ended English concertinas in the display case that I asked about. "Oh those are over 200 years old..."
  18. This is probally a little more practical http://www.melodicas.com/carlodica.htm
  19. I'm C/G myself the ferry; the Washington state ferries - I take the Seattle-Bainbridge car ferry. the top deck has large metal and glass covered outside areas. good for natural reverb
  20. I heard about the february concert while on the ferry. I think I would be interested. there's a few of us about the peninsula , from the ferry I know Marcus Lang who plays Morse #500 a G/D anglo. but I don't believe he's a member of the forum.
  21. Enjoying a break in the weather on Sunday , labor day weekend Downtown Poulsbo, to test out the new Nikon Coolpix 720p mode video.
  22. A young scoundral made the mistake of trying to walk out of the ferry terminal with my squeezebox. I had to set it down while attending the urinal about fifteen feet away. A dozen seconds later when I turned around it was gone. Vanished. I went fully ballistic, spotted it twenty five yards away, in a hand heading down the ramp to street level. I don't think I've ever sprinted so fast. I was immediately in his face inquiring very unpolitely as to where he would be going with my box. "Oh, I was taking it to the lost and found". This would be the very prominent information booth located very next to the very restroom he emerged veryily from ,located over twenty yards back up the ramp, the booth staffed at that time by a freindly uniformed ferry employee. I did force the guy to surrender it, with much angry verbiage exchanged, but no fisticuffs. Now I'm thinking how to put a GPS tracker on it or some sort of distance alarm on my case.
  23. It's something I do for more fun than profit. It influences my playing in other modes, since the average audience encounter is 15-30 seconds. It's helped me to be a more outgoing and confident person, and usually give at least one breif history lesson. I never recieved negative comments, but have been chased out of an area by security gaurds. And the cops made up that 'citizens noise complaint' in the park at midnight. dress; limit yourself to one prop item I take a careful look around the area. gauge existing noise ,foot traffic, wealthy socialites and boat owners. I adamantly express that busking is not panhanding I don't solicit or hang a sign, but my box just happens to be open. I may have some of my origami work around on display, anything to draw eyes. make eye contact. sell the deal.
  24. Please consider something like the Rochelle which is sold through a number of the small makers in the Concertina community who are reputable and can give you support, and allow trade ups if you should get hooked.
