Thats great to hear. There are so many myths and theories. Just had to clear it up for myself. Would accordion reed steel be too soft to be used to replace a broken jeffries reeds? say hohner reed steel?
-
perfect. thanks guy. and what about using clock springs for steel? I've also notice that they are all the same width (well the ones i've seen) Any reason for this?
-
Hi, I've been reading a few bits and pieces about Jeffries reeds in particular and it has come up a few times that they were made out of Stainless spring steel rather than carbon spring steel, is this true and is that what gives them that unmistakable sound?
thanks

here's the reply i got for anyone just incase they were considering looking at these...
Dear Sean,
I have taken one apart to show the " works ".
Wouldn't it be hard to have blocks to allow the reeds to be placed round the " outside " in in a circle.
I suspect that you have never had an English concertina apart so cannot understand a different design where there wouldn't
be any blocks like you get in all the " budget " Martini, Stentor, Stephanelli, Scaralati, Hohner, Stagi & a few French ones too.
Theese sell between £200 & £800 or more. I understand that apart from being Italian made they are accordion type / shape reeds.
Very many thanks for taking the bother to write to me. Why not buy one & see if they get your aproval, if they do, & want to buy
quantity of them we supply you @ trade prices ( & allow the diff. of the first one as a credit on the new order )

i'm sure someone might be interested in this...

very good. When did they start to use the domed? i have one from 1924 with domed... would it have been much earlier than that?
-
Hi, i'm making a set of buttons to replace broken bone ones on an anglo concertina and just wondering do people prefer domed buttons like on a wheatstone or flat like jeffries?
