  1. Definitely Folk Music, on the other sides (sorry I could not post them, I have run out of space)

There is a Banjo player, A Tambourine player, A flautist (her on the top)and a violinist.

The Blackhorse Sing around was at Nuthurst in Sussex, not too far from Horsham and the artist tuned up there one night and sketched all these figures.(About mid sixties)

    Al

I'd get that left knee/cartilage/shin injury fixed fast Al or it could go the same way as your chin and mouth. Must be from trying to tap your foot and the thigh keeps lifting off

  2. Any mileage in taping "have-to-learn" toons (e.g. as for EATMT) and listen on headphones and leave them repeating when you go to bed........

Remember the 'the learn a language' stuff while you sleep?

Of course babies pick up toons and words while they are awake coz they got nothing else to do.........

I taped off the half a dozen due to be massacred at EATM but with only 36 hours to go, I reckon it is too late this time.... :( :(

Any whiz players out there who would like to offer online Avatar plug in services by remote? The official word for Na'vi action is : full performance capture!

  3. A feathered edge on leather can be achieved in two ways one that you cut the leather to size and then with a scalpel or razor (the old cut throat razors are great)feather the edge to provide a nice clean finish to repairs, or bellows construction.

A quicker way I use is to angle the cut at about 30-45 degrees and using the rule or straight edge as a guide cut the leather doing the feathering at the same time.

    Al

if you are not an old strop like Al this

cut throat for use with replaceable standard safety razor blades may do the business. They are the weapon of choice (since HIV) for most street barbers across the Himalayas and as sharp as you are prepared to pay on the pack of safety blades --u snap the latter in half and slide into blade holder, so no strop needed.

I got a similar one recently from hairdresser suppliers, back of Angel Market Islington tho a bit dearer than this one below, and I did not realise there was a half blade supplied and in it and nearly cut myself ..... New blade original cuthroats can only be afforded by Jeffries players   at from 70 to 160 quid , but old rusty ones all over boot sales!

  4. I'm going, bringing My concertina and melodeon....oh and some chocolate and crisps anything unhealthy. ;)

    lol!

    Also bringing my camera. :P

Anyone mastered Dave Townsend's morning concertina offerings?["any concertina system@" I am beginning to wonder whether they are for a 30 key anglo as my 20 seems to have trouble finding some of the notes, even when set to robot auto play mode*..... B) B)

or maybe it is just me. Tallship most kindly abc'd and midi'd Galop hey and The drummer for me so I can pm them if someone wants as not heard from Dave yet whether all right to post them publicly. :)

Sounds like I'm in the same class in the morning as you. :) I've got a 30 button and I'm still struggling....although that may be because I learn tunes slower on the concertina than melodeon....and I need about 6months to learn a tune. lol!

I am now putting aside a year never mind six months! :( :(

  6. The expression Go with the flow, springs to mind. <_<

    Chris

I'lllend you my specs at the George - they are trying to swim UP against the stream... which SPRINGS from the plateau above surrounded by moun tains leading over to Bow Fell Great Gable, so think of the air and water pressure.

Actually you can also take shelter by swimming 'inside' the rocks as they have been carved out into little caves by the water bellowsing through.

On second thoughts, no specs - I will help you stand on the bridge from where the photo taken and you wont see how far the drop is into the deep pool which the local scallies jump into.

    Free-music gathering even?

This is only about 20 minutes (the sea and lagoon is 20 minutes the other way) from where i thought would be nice sometime to have a long, unorganised, musical weekend in 30 bed/bunk dorm plus four small rooms .plus family annex in ancient long cottage I have access to.

It is next to much smaller Duddon Beck which runs along the bottom of the garden - seven quid a night for all facilities including heated floor showers and bring your own food and drink for self catering. Can;t get cheaper than that and no neighbours to worry about on the fells.........It is usually free much of the summer months particularly sunday night to Friday - and only 40 minutes drive from M6/Kendal and 30 mins Coniston.......... accordionisti welcome too.... :P

  7. It's a very nice arrangement of your tune, Al, which is a nice tune by itself. Who knows what it will sound in a year's time when you play it then.

    Chris

And here's the stream entering the cascade to fill the Duddon river which tumbles down into the wide estuary and into the Irish Sea and takes the tune out across the globe's oceans :) :) :) ...........

  8. Thought I did but cannot find it.............help... my brain is all bellowsed.... :( :(

Well, whilst you may not have posted the link to your video, here, the clip is there for all to see on YouTube, under your Insight and Mind, or whatever heading. :)

    Chris

Yup - that's the one Chris - as usual your insightfulness has obviously taken over my mind.

Tho this telekinesis via telepathy power (concentrina waves) is also clearly resident in michaelsamwild; insightandmind told me he had posted a comment about harry's big boots...........

The important thing is that folk can now find those 2 harry jazz pieces...

    and

    ta 2 u both :)

  9. I have just recently purchased a anglo. I have already taught myself a couple of songs. I play the hamonica and there are many sites to get harmonica tab. I can take any song with harmonica tab and play it on the concertina. With both hands. It is so simple...but I have no idea what to do if it is not in harmonica tab. I play the guitar but guitar tab does not help me with the Concertina. I have been to Concertinamusic.com and there are tons of free sheet music but I don't understand any of it. If concertina tab was laid out like harmonica tab it would seem to be so simple. I guess I need to get a beginners DVD. Which would be a good one to start. I am a pirate so The Seaman's Concertina DVD seems to be one I might should get. But does it teach you any songs? Or what about Learn to Play Irish Concertina - John Williams. I want to learn to play Sea Shanties. Can someone direct where to go or what to get. Thanks anyone. Jim

Be nice if u could kindly list the URLs you have found with harmonica tab.

    tks

  10. I play the Ukulele:

Me too. But not as good as Bob. He's one of the greats (to my taste).

Ukes have one unbeatable advantage over concertina: $300 will buy your some of the best playing instruments. A Flea is $110 and a Fluke is some $200 and these are best overall instruments money could buy.

Folkus 2010 at Waddow had a uke side group for rock bottom starters which turned out a treat and a barrowload of them were for sale at under a tenner I think - it's not the instrument but the player.....

  11. Hi y'all,

An early St. Patrick's gift to those on the board with iPhones and/or iPod Touches (2nd generation or newer with built-in speaker).

Here's codes for free downloads of several of my apps from the iTunes App Store. You use them on the store exactly like redeeming an iTunes gift card.

The codes will expire on April 2 and are only valid on the USA iTunes App Store (sorry, that's what they give me...)

Each code is only good for one download from the App Store. Once used, they are no longer valid, so if you try a code and it fails, move on to the next one.

These are the full versions of the apps, and you will get all future updates for free.

It might be useful to post when you use a code to save other's time.

Apart from the sound of motorbikes ( http://osuarts.blogspot.com/2007/04/motorcycle-musichttpwww2bloggercomimggl.html

) Hartside is known for its primary schoool doing some interesting work on music composition by children (http://www.durhamlea.org.uk/resources/index.html?_Action=viewrecord&_Id=1082) tho that ought praps to be in tunes forum.

Praps picture of Hartside snow scene over at the delirium tremens discussion might inspire Al Chris or LDT to give us a new tune?

  13. Feeling a geek

Virtuoso expression by drunks suffering from the DTs -- they can hit all buttons in rapid succession

Sorry was slow to answer the Q about the DTs but u got the answer - was out of circulation, shaking... in the snow over Hartside (see pic) and the caff was shut.

BTW I don't know why we say 'THE' DTs, as tremens is a present participle used in adjectival form methinks - after all, we don't say 'The' bellowsing. And Hartside tlks about 'ostinato' which new to me ...any pedants out there? B)

Someone explained some time back about producing tremolo effect by shaking bellows and I have been trying that and it has a really nice effect for moany/heartstringpully toons so thank u whoever it was. When Parkinson's takes over I will get even better without having to shell out on Irish Whiskey :)

  14. Er...

Brill!!!!!! The fiddlers always have the best flourishes - tku Pandora's brother....

actually that own brand is my breakfast favourite - it's the munchiness of the decaying cat gut strings which beat those metal Evah Pirazzi strings at every mouthful :)
