  1. We can be led somewhat astray by making too much of an analogy with accordions. True well made and properly set concertina reeds have more dynamic range than do accordion reeds. The accordionist adjusts volume primarily by adding or subtracting reeds while playing. Thus multiple sets of reeds and controls to shut them on or off, and the option of playing chords with the left hand. So accordion reeds aren't called upon to meet the same requirements. Concertina reeds are much more delicate however; thus all the fussing that goes into making and maintaining them. Concertinas employing accordion reeds are not necessarily poor instruments; they just have different qualities. There are reasons to choose one type of reed over another. A good quality traditional 'tina could handle the situation you mention. Since your instrument is made by an individual who cares about the quality of his products and the happiness of his customers I'd certainly look to him first for a resolution. It's also worth remembering that no instrument does everything; part of the challenge and joy of musicianship is developing technique and repertoire appropriate to each. That's also partly why some of us feel the need to learn keyboards, drums, flute etc in addition to concertina.....!

  3. Is this back again? Last week I got an email offering to sell me this instrument at what seems an attractive price. The seller calls himself David Wilson. Does any one have any information or follow-up to last November's postings?
