  1. You are correct, Sir. I used this method by William Meredith. Is there a more accurate version? Looks like Mr. Auman has already put it on a spreadsheet. So much for originality, eh? Thanks for the suggestion, but I wouldn't want to circumvent the safeguards set up by the keepers of the forum. If I possessed such abilities, I'd either be rich or participating in this forum from a 5 X 8 cell. And I never did trust those pianoaccordian people. Thanks for the warning. I didn't want the pianoaccordian people ripping off my personal info.
  2. Whoa! That’s heavy. I go unconscious sometimes after a few scotch & waters but I don’t think it helps my playing. Then again, I’m not much of a typlistt typeist .....Oh never mind.
  3. Using information found on this website, I put together a spreadsheet which calculates the age of Lachenals. No pencil and paper needed. Just put the ser# in the box and it does all the work. It's in Microsoft Excel format and apparently those aren't allowed. Would it be allowed to be transferred in a PM if anybody wanted it? BTW, It's only for Anglos. Edited for: "BTW, It's only for Anglos"
  4. I think my avatar speeks for itself. It's an original concept drawing for the Pirates of the Carribean ride. And here's something from Peter Pan. Didn't someone mention a fairy above? No, I guess that was a ferry!
  5. Dear Dr Bones, I'm not quite sure whether you mean that your #115107 has or hasn't got a central fretwork ?? Regards, Neil I must be missing something here.
  6. My 20 button is #115107 (around 1904) and it has the central fretwork
  7. I've often wondered how lyrics or poetry can be translated into another language and still rhyme? Surely the Russian words for "Roam" and "Home" or "Hand" and "Land" don't rhyme.
  8. This has probably come up before, but I can’t find it anywhere. I have a 50’s model Wheatstone Anglo. Not the highest end model, but nice. There are no bushings around the buttons and it doesn’t look like there’s enough room around them to add the felt. I have Dave’s Elliott’s repair manual so I don’t need to know how, just if I should. So, the question is: Should I enlarge the holes and install the felt, or is it best to leave it original?
  9. I've got one, and, yes, it took some extensive refurbishment. At least that much of the mystery is solved.
  10. Chris, If you do give it a go, please let us know if the tone changes as you crash to the ground. Oh!, and, of course, look out for those ceiling fans.
  11. This never happened to me, but, if it did, it would be true. One day it was sunny and clear I took my squeeze box and sat on the pier Then a seagull flew by And let go in my eye Thank goodness I play it by ear
  12. OK! If you want truth, here's a true story of my own. Stagi, Morelli, Wheatstone, Rochelle I’ve played them all, though not very well Try as I may Still to this day The music, it all sounds like H E double hockey sticks
  13. While I was talking to a young ballerina I told her she smelled like she came from Sardinia No, the slip was not Freudian She called my squeezebox an accordion An insult to my poor concertina
  14. I sit here playing my squeezebox It’s better than sitting in detox I’ll play all day long And I might sing a song while dancing around in my knee socks You may think that this just sounds silly since my knee socks are really quite frilly but it’s oh so much fun and when I am done the cold nights don’t seem so chilly It helps to stave off the gloom By removing all my thoughts of doom Laugh at me if you like You can go take a hike I’ll stay here in my white padded room.
  15. That be no pirate accordian! This here be a pirate accordian!!
  16. I don't think I'll do that to my Wheatstone and it would take a heck of a lot more modification for me to pay $1,400 for a Galotta, although those little harmonica reeds are cute.
  17. I had to bring this back up, it's just too much fun. When I squeeze her voice starts to sing What a joy to my heart it does bring Like a thorny rose bush All the buttons I push Cause my fingers sometimes to sting Am I crazy? I guess you could say Still I squeeze her all through the day But I think you should know I don't do this for show Since most people just run away Yes, crazy I may be at that Some notes do come out quite flat I call her Athena. She's no concertina Athena's the name of my cat.
  18. Well, don't quit your job just yet. There's no telling what an Ebayer might pay for it. Without close inspection, it's hard to put a value on it. The pictures show it's not a bad looking instrument, but all the goodies are on the inside. It's a 20 button, so that will keep the interest down a bit. The description of air tightness and undamaged fretwork is a plus. If you can tell what keys it's in, it would help (C/G , G/D etc.) I'm certainly no expert, so at the risk of ridicule from others here, I'd expect you to get between $500 to $1,000 American or 300 to 600 BP, maybe more. At any rate, good luck with it.
  19. Greetings X900KEV, Your Ebay listing puts the date of manufacture c1850. There is a calculator on this forum HERE which uses the serial # and known dates of manufacture to determine an approximate date of manufacture for Lachenals. This calculator shows yours as being made around 1930. There is also a table, HERE which gives about the same date. I hope this is helpful to you.
  20. Sure, and come back with an insatiable urge to smoke crooked cigars and play Babalu with a big hat of fruit on your head.
  21. OMG!!! That's like musical astrological signs! I wonder if you assigned dates to the notes if it would reflect the personalities of people born in that key. Personally, I think you've all been in the mushroom tea. Then again, my ceiling fan plays rhythm for me...must be a flashback.
  22. Definitely! You might want to read some reviews regarding the different makes and buy the Rochelle from the one you decide might be best to upgrade to next time. You might consider a used Rochelle if you can find one. From what I've seen, the used ones cost nearly as much as the new ones and you may not be able to trade it at cost. However, if you get a deal on a used one and keep it in good shape, you'd probably be able to sell it for near what you paid for it or possibly even more. Decisions, decisions... At any rate, best of luck!
  23. The fretwork does seem similar to Lachenal but a bit heavier cut. The handrests are taller than the ones on mine. It seems like the screw heads are larger than mine also. How nice that someone so carefully carved the notes next to the buttons for easy reference.
  24. Then we'll be waiting 3 weeks to see the doctor too!
  25. I think I'll try going "PTHPTHPTHPTH!" while playing to see if the air flow variations give the same effect. If that doesn't work, I'll just have to stand in front of a speeding train to see if the pitch changes when it goes by. Of course I'll have to lay down as it passes over and stand back up and play again as it goes away from me. I'll let you know how that turns out. If you don't hear from me, it probably wasn't good.
