Concertina sighting - a slight return
LDT replied to Queen Lud's topic in General Concertina Discussion
oh! You beat me too it. lol! I was going to mention that. I think it might have been a jackie or a rochelle. I kept hoping for a close up. -
They should put that on the advert

I have five English Setters, so I have a choice. Al do you have five feet? that's two more than Jake the Peg.

Eemmm... let's see: - Sew: Nope. Only the ocassional loose button. - Play cards: No way. In this country is almost a religion, and if you make a mistake, they'll acuse you of cheating & are able to kill you (and I'm not talking about play for money, but as a passtime with your own family!) - Speak at least one other modern language: Yes. I've not any other choice, because I'm married to a northern barbarian... I mean, an englishwoman! - Play a musical instrument: Yep. two, really. - Dance gracefully. No way at all. I know barely how to put a foot in front of the other for to walk, not to talk about dancing So, 2 of 5. I'm afraid that I wouldn't be a good enough lady, and no Mr. Darcy is going to fancy me. How dissapointing... Cheers, Fer I have two regency ettiquette books. One suggests that a young lady should learn piano forte or harp....I'm sure if the concertina had been around that would have been suggested too. Oh! Mr Darcy..*sigh* I think I'm a bit of a Catherine Morland really.

I'm trying to be accomplished regency style: Sew Play cards speak at least one other modern language Play a musical instrument dance gracefully

That's the snazziest bag I've seen yet for a concertina. Is your melodeon similarly snug? Ian Not yet..I was going to make a matching bag but realised it wouldn't be strong enough. Don't want the straps to snap.
-
I think thats the stuff I use for my quilts. One of your quilts inside a case would do the trick I think LDT. Ian funnily enough that's what my bag is made from

I do have the cut..gotta try and get an appointment at the beauty place for a manicure but they keep locking the door (no really and there's no one on the front desk to wave at and get in.). I do cut them but then by the time I record a video they've grown again. Thank you I always know when its time to cut my nails coz my nails get stuck in down the sides of the buttons. lol! Thanks Rod

learnt this on melodeon first, then it came easier on concertina.
-
I am finding that learning the melodeon is helping me to understand the concertina better...I can now see what I was getting wrong/confused about. Has anyone else had a similar experience?
-
Thanks, Danny! To those who fear that interest in the concertina will die out... please note the variety of ages of the participants. So does the baby play the concertina too?
-
I do think its odd that it seems perfectly acceptable for either sibling to practice/play guitar earl in the morning/late at night....and it seems my melodeon is now tolerated midday....but I practice the concertina any time and I get complaints.... I'm blameing it on the cheap concertina.....rather than my playing....my excuse usually starts "when I get a better/more expensive concertina..." Although I do find you know in the old films when a person thinks they are bugged and doesn't want a conversation overheard they run a tap....I find if I have the TV on...it covers over the concertina just enough so those outside the room can hardly hear it. but then I usually get told off for 'wasting electricity'
-
well I like grunge and pop music (anything pre 2000) in the main but I have an eclectic taste.....with quite a large broad music collection. through learning the concertina..I've discovered more 'folk' music.

Another cheapskate wanting to take up Concertina

It makes my shoulders ache too....thought it was just me. -
I think everyone else will be with me saying 'Well done'. That's what it takes, pure and simple. Effort. (If your other half's away and there's nothing on the idiot box and you spend the evening mucking about on the concertina in the comfy sofa because no one minds does that count as practice? Or is it too much like fun?) well I counted the time I spend just doing scale when the adverts are on the TV...or while the news is on.
-
I've worked out that to-date I've done approx 250-300 hours of practice on the concertina....(and 48 on melodeon.)

maybe a pm needs to be sent to everyone telling them not to open the other PM?
-
I always wondered what event that song was about....It was on one of the two tapes of nursary rhymes (oranges and lemons & the wheels on the bus were the respective tape titles) that as a child I'd play over and over again. I think I'll have to go dig them out...then find a tape player. edit: ooh just noticed on amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wheels-Bus-Pre-Sch.../ref=pd_sim_b_4 its been reissued as a CD.
-
wow! the amount of people who are 'checking' thier PM's...was just looking at the stats....spammer must have got everyone.

I'm still here and still playing
