I'm impressed with the amount of stuff that's going on in the Southend / Leigh area these days - when I was first learning tin whistle & getting into the music in the late 70s all I ever found out about was the club at The Crooked Billet, the lads from the Famous Potatoes band (who I was pleased to see recently are still going strong) who used to have occasional sessions in The Grand on Leigh Broadway and, er, that was about it, apart from the brilliant record collection at Southend Central Library. Mind you there probably was loads else going on then, it's just that before t'Internet it wasn't quite so easy to track down .... I only found the session because they had one at Leigh Folk Festival this year and mentioned it was a regular thing...so I signed up there and then. At the Leigh one Its funny how the lights flicker every time a train goes past.

So last night (monday) was the first session for my NEW Concertina.... (Unfortunately the session was annoyingly short due to double booking...I was just warmed up when it all came to the end. Shame.). It it and I performed well managed to keep up with the tunes only had to swap to the melodeon for the tunes in 'D'. And I got quite a few admiring enquiries about the concertina....which was nice. It is also the first time I've seen another concertina (English) there.
-
it should say 'Upload successful and is available from the 'Manage Current Attachments' menu' and on the bottom right you will see manage current attachment (1) if its uploaded ok.
-
Yay! Have you got a pic of the new concertina? Actually that's a point...my concertina practice hasn't left me with shoulder ache since the new one.
-
I should have mentioned I'm playing 'English' style on a jeffries layout.

I think I got the hang of playing in G just have difficulty with the really high notes. The dots that are on the top line and above...I keep getting lost as to what button to use. Help? Any advice on how to solve this?

It was nice to see Sarah and her mum there and finally put a face to one of our great forum contributors. There were some lovely sessions, both in the barn and outside in the cafeteria area. hey, you saw me playing outside didn't you. lol! When I arrived about 11ish I thought I heard you playing in cafe garden...but wasn't sure.

You have to go to http://sounds.bl.uk/ but make sure you click the 'Restrict search to recordings everyone can play' option when you search. That way you get ones that you can listen to.
