To celebrate world concertina day, I played another tune called "Concertina Hornpipe" which I learned from John Joe Casey CD long time ago.

It is not 20 button but my 26+2 button early Jones (S/N 1213) have bushed buttons. But this could be a later modification. Most of Jones concertinas in the concertinamueum have un-bushed buttons except for C-349. https://concertinamuseum.com/CM00349.htm

The fretwork looks like Jones to me.

I own Henry Harley C/G with rectangular bellows. Since the C row is a half step lower than the G row, I can't directly compare it to other instruments, but if I play along the row I don't see a big difference in playability.

I once saw 1428, 5042, 5131 and 7435 on eBay and Barleycorn. All of them had numbered keys and simpler fretwork. And 109854 and 148802 with (slightly different) Butler label. As you think, I too think that on eBay is early Lachenal.

I checked Junior Crehan's CD "The last house in Ballymakea", and found that he relates these two tunes (Caoineadh an tSagairt-The Priest Lament/Caislean an Oir-The Golden Castle) . He also talked about the story of these two in that track but my English hearing ability is not so good that I could not hear well...

Cormac Begley plays one in this recent clip. If my memory serves me correctly it was not a 20 button model (30?) though.

Possibly Niall Vallely's Concertina Concerto. I have not heard it though.

Yes I received mine a few days ago (digital version). I slightly regret that I should have got the paper version as this issue contains a short report of the local concertina meeting that I wrote. As far as I know there are only two members in Japan.

I cannot agree more. And thank you for sharing your good memory. I didn't get a chance to meet Joe Ryan, but I had a great time chatting with Gerdie in 1999 or 2000. If my memory serves correctly, that is Sonny Murray.

Thank you Peter for the lovely photo. It will be 17 years next month since Gerdie passed away. I will keep playing this tune as well.
