  1. I am a furniture maker by trade, I always do my best to respect my fingers and keep away from dangerous operations. Who could have known socks were so dangerous. I have asked my wife to sew zippers into all my socks...just to be safe fjb
  2. I snapped the extensor not the flexor tendon. See here fo more detail... http://www.eatonhand.com/hw/hw015.htm Oh, yes I will fiddle again... fjb
  3. Close but not quite....The tendon on the inside of the hand is the flexor, which I understand is a bigger deal to repair than the tendon on the dorsal side, the back, of the hand, which is the extensor. Without the extensor the finger droops like the photo in the post from Leonard. Fjb... Ps. My injured finger is the left ring finger, so fiddling is nearly impossible, I can however play the c-box.
  4. It could have been worse...you could have been putting on tights....and laddered them and broken a nail I can only get mine to bend back about 10 degree angle..but then I'm double jointed. btw. this is me trying to cheer you up. Thanks, I did get a good laugh at the broken nail coment.... fjb Or I should sign Non-fiddlerjoebob, at least for a few months.....
  5. Now I am glad I sent the origial message about my finger. Mine looked just like that. I am a bit worried. You had no surgery? Just a splint. any advice about splints. My doctor said I could do anyting I wanted to, play fiddle, ect. He never mentioned splints. He is setting me up for an ortho apointment next week. So then I went on line and found everyone advising a splint, so I made one for myself. If its going to be 6-8 weeks I figure the soooner I get started the better. Thanks for the photos too.. I am not alone... Fjb
  6. Well, I was taking off my socks. Thats it. I slid my fingers down the back of my ankle and pushed the sock along with it. As I rounded my heel, I gave an extra push to round the bulge of my heel, and POP!... It hurt for a few seconds and then, not so much, but my left ring finger tip (last joint) stands at about 40 degrees from the rest to the fingers and I have no control over it. Seems I broke the tendon connection to the last bone. Two months in a splint. Even typing this is work, but I need some sympathy so I am complaining to you all....I was taking off my socks for God's sake. Waaaa FJB
  7. LDT, here is a modern tune, i.e. somewhat recent, but I am afraid its not a Pop tune. But its good! And, fun too. The link is via Jody Kruskal's website, (a C'netter) and is a recording of David Cornell at the North East Squeeze-in in Massachusetts several years ago. Although someone might get technical and comment that he is not playing an English. I think its a Maccan Duet. You however, can learn it on the English. I am. Do you sing LDT? http://jodykruskal.com/player_profiles/cor...76D.Cornell.MP3 Fjb
  8. I guess you could hook up one of those "Camel back" hydration systems that are used for biking, running at the like. They must hold well over a pint. That should last you til the end of the tune. Fjb
  9. Maybe it was just the photographer who was upside down...? Fjb
  10. Leo...do you have this clip from Utube? I dont know how to get it to you, but there is a concertina moment around 15 seconds into the clip. ABC promo - The Flying Nun Fjb
  11. Anyone know the name of the first tune on the video "Celtic Christmas"? Fjb
  12. Sheeesh... That stinks for the sailors. Who made up that silly rule anyway? And who is enforcing it? Must be those cigarette companies; up to no good again. Dang! fjb
  13. In your honor, I shall name a plant after you... hehe. Why, thank you... fjb
  14. I used to have a humidifier in the house to help the house plants...and me. Now I have so many house plants, large ones too, that they keep the house humid enough. I usally water once a week in the winter. It takes around 25 gallons to make the rounds of all the plants. The house is lots more comfortable, less dust, better for the instuments and me, plus I have a jungle inside when the snow piles up outside. Fjb
  15. I'm rubbish at music...find it difficult to read the 'dots' and was told at school not to continue playing the recorder for a second term coz I was that bad. I've tried and failed the guitar. People run from the room sreaming when I attempt to sing. I've never really been able to get a whole song out of a instrument till now. If I can get a tune out of a concertina anyone can. Well LTD, I am glad to hear the you are feeling like you are getting a tune out of your concertina...good for you, and good for you to pass on your enthusiasm. fjb
  16. Yes, I recall somewhere in a previous thread on this topic someone said something like:... "don't anthropomorphise your instruments, they hate it." fjb
  17. Here is one of my favorite poems.......Seems some how appropriate. fjb .................................................................. I have the feeling that my boat has struck, down there in the depths against some great thing And nothing happens. Nothing... silence... waves... nothing. Or, has everything happened, and are we standing quietly now in the new life? JUAN RAMON JIMINEZ:
  18. Sheesh...I was enjoying the suberted thread.. fjb Detention for you. Yes, I have lots of detention around my neck and shoulders from so much fiddling. fjb
  19. Comming along nicely... haveing fun? fjb
  20. Ooh, I like that very much! Yes, me too. It fits my method and my intention. fjb
  21. Sheesh...I was enjoying the suberted thread.. fjb
