  1. Hi Steve Have you sold this instrument? If not, please do send me a message. Polly
  2. I'm curious whether this is fraudulent or ignorant. I was just looking at the buyers other auctions, and it seems to be a lot of antique stuff, and nothing musical. So perhaps the seller got it, did a little ebay "research" to find out what it is and what it is worth, and grabbed the copy from Chris's auction without knowing what any of it means, or that many people out there would know what it means, as well as what it doesn't mean. I checked the serial number to the ledger first thing, and studied the pictures for raised ends and came up with naught. Then I checked c.net, and was glad, once again, that everything concertina is being watched by a number of us. I'd suggest that somebody more knowledgeable than I about what the model letter means send the seller the information as well as the date of manufacture, suggesting they update their listing to be accurate.
  3. Hi all, I still have this concertina, thought I was holding it for a friend, who turns out unable to purchase. I have also had it looked at by BB, and while playable, they would do more than I expected to bring it up to tiptop. So I am looking for much less for it now, or else I will hold it in their queue and get it repaired and then sell it. But if you are wanting to learn the crane system now and play it while it is in the 6 month repair queue at BB, you could buy it from me for $1000 and have work done on it later. Not sure if my sound files are still accessible, but I can email them to anyone who sends me an email address, and will try to repost them (they replaced the server at work I had the files linked to). Thanks for looking.
  4. Yeah, concertinas are not cheap. But this is already about 20% less than I paid, so as far as I can go. It's nice!
  5. the price is US $2,000. Correction: serial number is 691. Attaching photos now. Happy to email larger images if requested, just send me a message with your email address. Thanks
  6. Serial number 691. This concertina is in good playable condition, no visible cracks, damage, etc, other than a little missing bit in the fretwork at one and, and just a bit of the top layer of fretwork missing on the other Comes with a custom made case, heavy duty. I had been hunting for a Crane and finally found this one, planning to learn to play it as an alternate to my 48 key English. Years passed... apparently one system is all I am up for, alas. The following links are to sound files. The first is played by the former owner, and the second two are just each button, played in each direction. <http://files.hemlock.com/ygf/pwilson/mingulay.mp3> <http://files.hemlock.com/ygf/pwilson/HighSide.mp3> <http://files.hemlock.com/ygf/pwilson/LowSide.mp3>
  7. See it here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150451231719 I am going with eBay for a list of reasons, primarily exposure and time frame, but if it sells I will certainly make a donation to c.net (I promise!)
  8. Cute as a button! I want it, but have to thin the herd, not adopt new babies...
  9. Well sold is sold and I am sure both parties are happy, however, the rest of us would still, I am sure, love to see a photo of the hunt scene. And, for your viewing pleasure, I am attaching a picture of a Dipper Anglo that I saw a couple of years ago, and use a picture of it for my Christmas cards that year, because it is so beautiful! I have never tried to attach an image here, so I hope it works.
  10. Hello I haven't seen very many Dippers, but each has been spectacularly beautiful. Any chance of posting some pictures of it? I saw one Dipper Anglo in Oregon with leaping stags on the end. I don't play Anglo and haven't robbed any banks lately, so am not a potential buyer (alas) but I'd love to see pictures -- and I bet I'm not the only one who'd like to see them. Polly
  11. The good news (to my mind) is that this lovely instrument is not sitting on a shelf somewhere, in a collection, and the better news (to my mind) is because it lives with me now. I love it! I had been calling it the Greg Brown of concertinas, but I like the idea of a deep woman's blues voice, so perhaps it is not 'Greg' at all. I did make the drive down to see the instrument before the auction ended, and a break in the middle of a 19 hour loop of a drive was not conducive to finding it playable, but now that it is here and I have realized I don't have to 'think' about it being single action as much as just allow for inhalation as a singer would, it is quite the treat to play. I love the voice. I am sure a lot of you concertina heavyweights could do it more justice than I can, but by god I will enjoy trying! And I DO have to thank Jim Lucas in print for being more than willing to get a phone call in the middle of the Denmark night to listen to a tired driver fumble around with the biggest concertina she had ever hefted!
  12. This concertina was off on a little holiday (going out on approval, actually, but I didn't tell it that, kind of like the Larsen dog who is excited about going off to be 'tutored') and suffered some damage in transit. So it is off the market until it can be returned to full playing condition. F.Y. I. -- Although I had it insured for full value I was informed by FedEx that because it is a "unique instrument" they only cover it for $500!! Beware of this -- I had no idea there was this loop hole, and had informed them of what was in the (very well packed) box. So, like David and Golliath, I will be slinging a wee rock (or something) in their direction and trying to get this resolved.
  13. Correction! Across the flats is 6-7/8" which still sits pretty in the hands. Sorry for the misinformation.
