  1. I agree with Jody......don't do it....don't shy away from something that seems hard right now.....I know you want to progress fast but you must realize it takes a long time. Progress will be slow(it is for all of us) but do it correctly! You will thank yourself later. What tune are you trying to play that is giving you trouble. I find that most adult try to play tunes to hard for them. If this is so, put it aside and come back to it a year from now to see how it goes. Some tune just don't work on the anglo. Have fun! Doug
  2. I got a set of bellows off ebay and the were perfect for my 20b Lachenal. I would go for quality bellows if they are going on a high end instrument.
  3. The case should have some blocking to hold the concertina securely so it does not rattle around.
  4. It is a Bb/F some of the notes are not working....it needs a tuning. I don't know if it just out or in some old pitch. Owner said he tried to open but could not part the wooden parts and was afraid to go any further and cause damage. It is at $5200+ USD. with 5 hours to go. To rich for my blood.
  5. Mine has a B on the push and a C on the pull. I think there are many different arrangement for this button but in modern boxes it will be B on the push and A on the pull. What type of music and style are you planning to play?
  6. Best way to break in new bellows is to play the heck out of it. All good advice from those above. I try to always put it in the case, even to get up to go to the bathroom...accidents can happen and the case(make sure you latch it) is the safest place for it.
  7. Sadie is a wonderful name...good luck, have fun, find some friends to play with. If you need help shoot me an email.
  8. After some crazy traffic coming back onto Staten Island Diana and I are home. What a great weekend of music, old and new friends.
  9. Looking forward to seeing some of my concertina.net friends and maybe meeting some new ones. Lets share a tune or two. See you in a few days
  10. Just a shame they were taken down. So many of us take inspiration and motivation from these guys. You can learn so much watching them. Just a shame!
  11. Might not want to get to use to going up and down the "C" row for tunes, especially if you are into Irish trad. most modern players go across the rows. I'm sure as you delve more deeply into the concertina you will find your own style What type of music are you interested in and what tutor books do you have? Doug
  12. My wife Diana spotted this from "The Nightmare Before Christmas". Enjoy
  13. I have had this box for about 16 years....bought it on ebay from New Zealand. It was playing but in rough shape and in old pitch. It has since been restored. It is serial # 84276 AND has the unusual mark scratched into the wood near the right hand strap (see photo) JDP 9 Just throwing it out there to see if anyone recognizes this box or might have some info on the history of this instrument. Anyone know who or what is JDP. Maybe it was some kind of club, a band, or even a rental number. Thanks for any info or ideas you might have. Doug Barr
  14. Just about time for this wonderful tradition to appear! I can't wait! Doug
  15. Anyone have any experience/opinions with theses instruments? Doug
  16. This looks like a nice box at a good price. I play the same box so am partial to Suttners. Don't think you will be disappointed with this. Doug
  17. Hope to see some of you at NESI in a few hours! Doug
  18. I have to agree with Jim....for a beginner it is best to try and stick to a pattern and then deviate from that pattern to avoid finger jumps. Of course many other reasons to move fingers around(bellows control, chords, etc) but when you start out it is nice to have what I call my default fingerings. Good luck and have fun....you will find what works best for you through practice. Try to get out to play with others as soon as you can and that will help and motivate you.
  19. Bump, still for sale. Any interest?
  20. Back from the CIAW...had 2 great classes with motivated beginning student that did great. Nice to get students started and excited about playing the concertina. I'm sure they will all move up to the intermediate classes next year!
  21. Thanks for the nice compliment and hope to catch up with both of you guys! David, Shannon Dunne is teaching the intermediate class and I'm sure you will do great. See you both in a few days!
  22. Here you go. Doug Barr, Christy Mcnamara, and Jim Norman
