I am always doing this concertina futzing stuff later at night than I should be--so when things don't "work" I just assign it to me being too dopey to do it correctly. But this is the second time that I have tried to translate George Green's Slow College Hornpipe to dots on the tune-a-tron; it comes out looking different than usual--like double spaced--and then there is a blank page for the actual translation, and same blank page for PDF. I am sad as I also really enjoy hornpipes and take any coming my way. Help me folks, what I am I doing incorrectly?? All other tunes are tranlating fine. ????
Sorry for the slow response Michelle! The Tune-O-Tron converts it to staff notation fine for me, but today it won't make midi files. It would seem that the whole concertina.net site is under constant and relentless attack by spammers and there must be times when Paul despairs of carrying on with it.
Why don't you try using the converter at O'Regan's? which works fine.

I've never seen a Razor blade that looks like those.
Schick razor blades use an injector to slide new blades into the side of the razor which is single sided.

It has been mentioned on several occassions in the past but not for some time. I bought the CD from Lea several years ago and would recommend it without hesitation.

A taste of things to come . . .

I bought two job lots of concertina related books, one lot on ebay and another from a concertina repairman, I'm not sure which that one came from. I have two more music books and a tutor book to scan and I'm hoping that the ICA and/or Concertina.com will host them as my Dropbox space isn't infinite!
The rest of the books I got are still in © so I can neither scan or abc them I'm afraid.

Just for Dirge here's the PDF, it's high quality so it takes a little time to open before you can save it.

It works fine, but this link might work better:

*Gawps* how did you work that one out?

I've just edited the link in the first post of the thread, can someone please tell me if it works now?

Page 9 is there now, it was there all the time actually but I'd forgotten to put the leading 0 in the page name!

Before I set off to have a few hours playing concertina with a large group of players I have yet to meet (Yippee!) I'll leave you with links to get you to the first few pages - I have a feeling that if you edit the link to the next page number up to 24 you'll get to see them all.

Again please let me know if these links work

Ack! Sorry all, I'll work on it tomorrow after I've spent three pleasurable hours playing concertina. Lucky me!

I started to abc the first tune from this book and realised it would take an incredibly long time! Here's a link to the scans of the front cover and all 24 pages, the back cover is missing. If anyone would like a particular piece transcribing to abc post a request in this thread and I'll do my best to oblige.
Selected Favourite Melodies for the English Concertina Olio arranged by Carl Liebe
Enjoy, (and do let me know that the link works (or not) please!)
Edit: the link above now works but this gives you a slideshow of the whole book !!

I'm sure that Kettle Bridge Concertinas would oblige Alan.

No one program seems to have it all. I haven't used Navigator for some time because I prefer the ABC Explorer interface. I use Easy ABC to carry out certain tasks but not as a program of choice, ABC Editor cannot be beaten for extracting an index from a file but for anything else it doesn't even begin to compete with other software.
-
I also find it better than Barfly for multi-voice transcriptions, especially if you use the '&' to (lazily I know!) write two voices on a single stave.
Adrian
Using the ampersand (&) to add a second voice on the same stave isn't lazy Adrian! It serves a very different function to chord grouping [ ] allowing notes of different lengths with opposing stems to occupy the same time period within the bar. I only use it when I have to, but when needed it is the only way to acheive the desired notation.

No matter which browser (Chrome, I.E., Firefox) I use I cannot access the smileys when making a post, Click on the icon and nothing happens, I can't believe it's unique to me but I'd appreciate a heads up if anyone can use smileys from a dropdown list of graphics without resorting to typing symbols like 'colon D'

ABC
in Tunes /Songs
I've downloaded the Craic too and as you say Simon it's a bit limited in some ways but it looks like a pretty powerful app. If you are desperate to slow a tune down you can edit the abc and add a Q: field.

Did somebody say D flat?
They did but it was some time ago and largely in jest (for my part at least)! This is a timely resurrection of an old thread because we can have an annual review of what abc is up to (or indeed not up to) now. Since my last post in this thread there has be yet another incredibly useful software development for abc users, Tunebook for iPhone and related applications for Android phones - what a wheeze!

The tunes full name is George Green's SLOW College Hornpipe.
Title now edited!

Q:"Steady on there! "1/4=125
Great tune, great tempo marking!
:D

The hornpipe obsession is back (it's never far away to be honest!) You can get a real bounce to this one if you keep the speed down.

I see the Tune-O-Tron has now gone thanks to the activities of spammers, what on earth do they get out of ruining such a good resource?

The Snowy path is a lovely tune! Basket making? I thought you were a hand loom weaver or are you a general purpose crafts person? My good lady wife is into 'big knitting' (you must have spotted this at a Craft Show?) Knitting with needles over a inch in diameter is not for the faint hearted!

I had to transcribe this tune this evening to pass along to another player. All of the accidental G sharps were shown with the sharp symbol in brackets (#) which I've not seen before except as a reminder to novice musicians that an accidental was cancelled by the last bar line. Does it mean the accidentals are optional at the players discretion? Anyway here it is and I think it's a little cracker (with the accidentals in)!

Peacock's Tunes

Posted
Peacock's Tunes is a book transcribed from an old manuscript and published by the Northumbrian Piper's Society. For some reason this is now being freely distributed on the net, here's the link, have fun!
