  2. DC al fine can only be written in quotation marks, the words will appear but they have no musical significance as far as abc is concerned. !D.C.! will get you the proper italic/bold script but again it has no effect on the midi playback. There are times when I have to admit that abc lacks refinement. I don't recall doing the original transcription as it happens, it too lacks refinement - I'm almost ashamed of it!
  3. Really interesting how close the voting is this month! Really interesting that 'true to form' out of four I voted for 3 & 4!. so far anyway . . .
  4. Further to this question I've now moved on to Volume 2 of Walsh (Fourth Edition) which seems more sophisticated in its layout and has a higher print quality. Many of the tunes have "Each Strain Twice" underneath and following discussions it has been decided that I will add repeats and alter the footnote to reflect the changes that have been made, like so: X:8 T:Pig in the Parlour. I think the A repeats but the B doesn't, some of the recordings bear this out.
  8. I'm a bit confused by the music Gary, the B part has a time signature of 3/4 but the bars are written in 3/8??

  10. Sorry, quite off topic but since Ilmington have been mentioned here is a video featuring Hammersmith Morris demonstrating a simplified version of the Ilmington dance 'Jubilee' performed for Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee. This video is responsible for making me learn to play Oyster Girl with a lot of bounce!
  11. I became aware of Susan Burt and their relationship shortly after Larry's death because Susan kept up Larry's Facebook page as a memorial. I never met Larry, we just enjoyed chatting about tunes and exchanging music. Thanks for the update David and I'm pleased to know that you both met Larry and had the opportunity to share both tunes and musical ideas with him as well as meeting Susan and completing the circle to concertina.net. Pete
  12. Sorry Steve, much of the confusion will have been caused by me creating a midi file based on the dots in BTNWO which included the [M:2/2/] E2 E2 E2 E2 | [M:5/4] etc in the B music as printed. Your rationalisation of the tune is obviously correct and prior to you posting this Chuck Boody (cboody) who is (was?) by profession a musicologist had emailed me to suggest exactly the same thing! I'm sorry if I added to the confusion.
  13. That's very different to the dots in the book Steve!!
  14. Nope, not from here. I have the book and I transcribed this tune to create a midi file for Al but as it's a recently published book and the tunes were painstaking transcribed from old field recordings by our very own steve_freereeder I won't be making the abc file publically available now or ever. Steve has a massive ability for transcribing music accurately by ear and gives generously of his time and patience whenever I ask, He's also an incredibly enthusiastic musician with bags of talent, well worth getting to know! Pete
  15. Yep, the B part of the MP3 is completely wrong, didn't you listen to my midi file which was transcribed straight from the book?
  16. Triplets in the music and a lack of repeats? Sorry but that's just wrong even if the midi playback is half right but stops oddly!
  17. Here you go . . . (and the best of British luck with it mate!) Walter Bulwer's Polka No. 5 For those wondering why it sounds quite odd, the A music has one sharp but is in the Lydian mode of C, the time signature is 2/2. The B music changes key to C major but the second bar is in 5/4 which along with the dotted quaves in the third bar tends to make it all quite lumpy. If I were to play this I would probably be seasick! Edited to add info!
  18. I could probably organise a midi file if that would do Al?
  19. Further research proves this to be Internet Explorer and concertina.net specific! I've tried a few other sites and the abc files are normal on those as they are in other browsers. Very odd! Edit: Typo.
  20. I've now narrowed this problem down to being Internet Explorer specific. It doesn't happen with Chrome or Firefox. I have no choice about the browser I use at work as that's specified by the network manager and until recently it was fine, I never use IE at home but having tried it tonight and finding the same problem including pasting the tune to ABC Explorer and Easy ABC. If anyone else has IE and another browser installed could you please check this out and report back, thanks.
  21. This is serious! Every abc file now appears with double spacing between each line of text rendering them useless until all of the extra carriage returns are edited out.
  22. The problem seems to be with this forums spacing of text that that has been copied and pasted. I just copied Bury Fair from my own post and pasted it into the Tune-O-Tron (and into Notepad just to make sure) and there is a blank line between each line of text. This is an absolute no-no with abc so the carriage returns need to be edited out to convert the file. Those blank lines weren't there when I wrote the post! I'm now going to experiment with recent and older posts in Something For The Weekend just to see what happens.
  23. Marcus make good instruments, it will serve you well for many years, enjoy! Pete. (failed anglo player, but I play English and do my push/pull playing on a D/G button accordion)
  24. One of the problems with this poll is that I can't change my vote once it's clear that my first choice can't win. This isn't a national political election, I think everyone should have a second bite at the cherry once it's clear that the first choice is a no-hoper.
  25. Here's a great tune that I transcribed today from a book that was published in 1740. There is an extremely similar version of this tune in Playford so it may already be quite well known to you but not to me. X:149 T:Buskin. Walsh4 volume1.149 M:C| L:1/8 Z:vmp.
