Forgot to tell :
My spnsor is lovely elderly Lady, called Ilse and somehow I must find or compose a Waltz, dedicated to her, I would call it : "For Ilse".
I lost a working day, had to travel to Spain today and have posponed to tomorroew.
I found this Concertina only 30 kms. awy from my German home. the seller brought personally to my house.
Incredible !!, possibly I have won a new Concertina Friend.
And one pint moire :
Ishall find in my books, I guess all the information I shall need.
But if somebody knows something about this instrumetn, I am eager to learn.

Happily I inform :
I could buy a really beautiful new old Concertina, differnt from what I ever had seen.
No exact idea about age, but probably pre IInd World War it is no Bandeon, although it has the same shape, but smaller and ligther than a Bandonenon.
I estimate weight to be about 2 to 2,5 kgs.
Dimensions arew about 300 x 200 x 200 mm, I guess, must still find it out with 2 reeds per note it has
16 keys on the left side and 23 on the right sight, mecahnically in perfect condition , optically too, some few tones must be corrected and I shall check precise tunjing-
Sound very nice and very well suited for German Folk.
Allows to play very quiet and also quite loud has a lot of aire 12 fold belows with 3 intermeidate frames, insteda of an Air bottom it has a very confortable lever.
Although it is differntly outlayed than a 30 button Anglo, I found my way easyly on the central keays to play happily away.
The extact outlay still I must find out.
I am incredibily happy and have been lucky to buy it, I foudn a spnsor who prefinanced it for me Price 250 Eurios + obligation to teach a begining Concertina Player (the seller) to whom I have loaned for the moemment my 20 button German Cioncertina + Tutor and CD. + obligation to share an potential extra earning in case of reselling during the next year to share with the seller.-
But I shall not sell it.
If youi can uinderstand my joy and wish to see it you can see on

Sharron,
my previous reply has beennn written before reading your description of the functions of the Amziong Sloewsowner.
It sounds exciting what you tell. I accept that this mayx a very valid way for learning. And there might me no need tor teaching Tapes (recordings) as I said any other than for beginners.
Still rests the personal contact amopng us and Interchange of Tunes, I would like to realize.
I remind opnce more : When proposing my Topic I have been thinkiong in the Comunity not just in my person.
Nevertheless I have learned a lot from this discussion.
I play mostly wuth a 30 button Anglo, with a deep A in the G row lefft side and Push/Pull Csharp on the on the right accidentals row. I think they call it JEFFRIES OUTLAY:
My Concertinma is made by Harry Geuns and Wim Wakker, Holand, Amboyna ended, beautiful, and has a very good action.
Alos I play a TEdrow Baritone from time to time not having neither of both characteristics I mentioned before. It is not to diffuclt for me to change fingering.
I play also German Konzertina made in Eastern Germany with 20 buttons C/G
and I kiej to play very much, and it has much more possibolities than one might thinkk. Found a nice good German Tutor for it with CD, and The teacher is playing amaziong things, like as intersting TAngo. Very curois how he is using G and C/ Row jkeys at the same time for cohording. Would like to have mroe time to deeper into it.
I own also an old Bandoneno, which needs some repairs but in crazy dark hopurs, on my own I made quite a lot of intersting noise with this instrument.
The music I play is ;
Irish Tunes,.
Basque Folk, Tunes and sometimes chords
German Folk improvbising some chords, also mainly octave playing and I learned by error that it can sound very tow voiced when playuing left and right hand at the same time but in differnt distance than ion OPcatve.
I am working on some Musette and March Music, and there are need harmonies and chords.
I have a friend who is Triktixa Teacher in _the Basque Country. He cannot really rteach me, but he allows me to play in his specially prepared School Rooms and from time to time he assists me, playing Basque Tunes on his Trik, which I try to adpat to the Cioncertina.
MY TOPIC HAS NOT BEEN PROPOSED TO COVER MY NEEDS., I THOUGHT IN A COMUNITY OF CONCERTINA FRINEDS STRETCHING THE CONTACTS AMONG THEM.
Nervethelless any Recording would be higjhly appreciated and responded.
My playing is till not really solid and teh weakest point is the Irish Tunes with the right accent.
Regards
and thousand thanks for all the received advices.

Ro enjoy myself and to make people sing with me, with 20 buttons I have plenty.
Alos for Irish Tunes, I have frequently enough with the 10 buttons andnless of the G Row, others I need both G and C row.
It is goog to have the 30 buttons, in order to have the repeatzed keyas.
When it comes to chorded Tuneas it may be diofferent. From my actual experioence I would say that 36 or 38 buttons can m,ake it easier.
Regards
Joachim
Helen, why have you chosen the B/C box instead of the more comon C/G ?
Ronnaby, can inform the outlay of the 24 keys ?
-
Thank you, Helen for your reply,
"The Slöowdowner Softweare" can be a good iudea for my personal learning process.
Thank you Dave for informaing, where to get it.
I agree also that recording a learnign Tape is a real Task.
I did not pretend to this extrent.
Me also I get still very nervous when recor´ding trying to do it perfect and thinkting in the critics of the listener.
I try to forget about the recording and the receiver of the recording,.
I start the recorder, forget it, playing away any melody which comes to my mind, and later after this "warm up, I am better able to record what I want to do.
But there more advance players who could help opther to leran more or less difficult tunes, - eventually ex cluding the fully chorded ones. Not really prepareing a Learning Tape, but advising about some of the difficulties, and the difficult passages (bitsd) slowly.
I thanlkk you for being willing to record somethiong for me , Helen, I shall do it fopr you too, and lets enjoy and smile and know each other better.
In your objections you forget that I have insisted all the time aslo about the human aspect, about the chance of making new friends and receoibving new tunes, sometimes surprising and strange and not always limited to Irish, Morrism etc.
And one more point, I did not think in myself exclusively<, I thought always in sgharuing my experience.
By the other hand a "Library " open to anyione could be intersting too.
IO shall wait a little bit more and than I shall bring this tio an end, once made all teh conlcusions from the contribuitoions here received and perhaps >I shall make a final proposal to whom it might interst.
Thansk and Regards

And one more post-data :
Another lived example that there are ways of interchange, teaching, learnign :
Hen van Aslten, who is a better Musician than me, with difference, possibly is not a reealyy advanced player, he is better than me, whom I feel that I am slightlöy advanced player, which means that I knw almost sure and quiock where are the notes on my instrument, who tries to play across the rows, who hunts nto too difficult tunes froimthe CDs, alwasy with effort and time, who is winning in speed, etc.
Henk prepared for a me CD, really well made, more than necesary, but enjoyable, where he performs the Tunes he best controlled at this time, played them in parts, explainging some particular fingering, he would recommend, atnd finally at the speed he is able to perform.
He commented to me, that it has been a certain effort, but an effort which helped him also, sionce he had to practise enopugh to make more perfect his playing.
I have learned almost all thos tunes, and now whenever possible we can play it together when there is a chance to meet, and I can offer this CD to other players .
This CD was bornm due to my low sight problem, but it is useful to anybody who prefers to learn by ear rather than from the note sheet.
++++++++
And there comes opne more aspect to my mind :
Considering the bunch of slightly and slightly more advance players, withoiut frequent and easy contact to Irish Music :
When interchanging music with other, there is a chance for critics and corrections. and suggestions how to it better.
To explain better :
Let´s suppose that I would have done the effort instead of Henk, my playing might result more or less correct, but perhaps or most probaly rthere would be a certain lack of character, Irish character, since I have not sipped this musci quais with the mother milk, and making listen such a record to any Irish player, apart of bein astonished and wondering which tune it maight be, he could be polite, tolerant and generouis and advise me how to do it better.
Reagrds to you all.

Alan,
thank you for your reply, I find it to be very reasonable.
It´s true, that when proposing my topic, I have been extremely enthustiac abd have written it spontanously, withpout thinking too much.
When speaking about chorded Tunes, I understand your arguments, almost a 100 %, since I myself I am working now for weeks on a Parade March, I have listened on a CD titled "Anglo in the Dark" perrformed by Hary Scurfield on an Anlo with more than 30 keys, possibly 36 or 38, and possibly on a G/D tuned one, where I am trying to play it on 30 key C/G instrrument, whjich in my opinion is running ouit of air quickjer than other I have been tryiong.
If I would ask Harry how to play it, (I have done it) it would be naturally very difficult for him to advise me what to do. Nevertheless he is trying, and we will see.
Playing and speaking on the phone, at least Ireceived some more basic advises, which helped me to improve what IU could getch (hunt) from the CD, which I have listened probably more than a hundred of times. I learned at least some triplet, I couldnt define before, and so I got some kind of encouragement to go ahead with my proposal, which possibly even for an advanced player is really easy.
As you can understand from what I am saying, I am now aware of each opf the difficulöties you mention.
Although it is right, that I did not consider these difficulties when speacking about fully chorded tunes, I still believe that some advise is always possible, but furthermore I had probably in mind more Irish Tunes, played in Sessions by an essemble of ionstruments, like as Fiddle, Flute, Mandolin, Bodhran at a high speed, some few chords.
For the moement I am still convinced that there more advance players could advise and help slowing down a bit the difficult passages.
I know I guess, almost all Tutors for Beginners and there very good ones, some of them with perfectly well prepared Tapes and CD´s, but I find there is huge gap for the next inmediate steps, which is of more specific weight if the Learner lives in an Aereea wher the concertina is almost uinknown.
I feel supported in my idea by the fact that Frank Edgley, whom I consider to be a
passionate teacher and Concertina Maker, has edited aside of his good and easy to follo Tutor wiuth his very comprehensivve CD, dedicating an important chapter to ornamentations, has edited a Tune Boik with Tradional >Irish Tunes, he considers, are frequently played in sessions and has edited at least one CD on which about a 50 % of the Tunes appaering in the Bookk are played twice, once at a slower speed and once at the normal speed. And if he has not done it until now, I know that he has the project to edit a next one.
I have learned quite a few Tunes from there, still working and realising the necessary effort which you makes enjoy when art the end you get it.
And up to here we are speaking only about the aspect of Teaching/Learning.
Almost more important for me when writing the Topic it has been :
INTERCHANGE, HUIMAN CONRTACT, SHARING THE JOY, PERHAPS MAKING FRIENDSHIP, RECEIVING FRESH, NEW IMPULSES,
thinkling uop to a certain degree in more comunication between players from the Southern Latin Countries, Spain, Italy, France, South Americaand the Anglo-Saxxon, Celtic influence Players.
There is a lot of Music out ther, whcih could be well perforrmed on the concertina.
Me too, I invite you once more to let me some more replies.
Toi you Alan, I thank fromheart for your attention and readyness to help.

Due to the Low Sight problem I suffer for over a year, it costs me some effort tollow the forum duely. I make mistakes, I am learning to overcome or better said to avoid.
So I did not find the last messages, not getting aware that there is already a secoind page. Please excuse.
Helen and Jim, yuo both are right !
Without being able to explain thiungs academically, I state :
In the Spanish Language, which I use mainly in my daily life, I would have said concurso, I guess in French could be used Concours.
Concurso/competicion :
Concurso de belleya Beuaty Contest
Competiocion deportuiva , Sports competition
Concurso de coches Antiguos - Contest of Antiqwue Cars (Beauty, Elegance)
Competicion de coches = carrera, Raciong competition
Concurso de Concertinas, probably would more refer to the instruments, in its beauty, and quality etc.
Competion de Concertinas, would probably refer more to the Players and Makers.
Concurso de Musica Musical Contest
KONKURS in the German languuage means in fact Bankrupcy, we might all get bankrupte pretending to go to Hawai, competing with the most bveautiful concertinas, eventually buyiung new specially for the contest, but certianly I did not think in this possibility, when saying the word.

Richard,
I have been to lazy or too busy to look to the dictionaire and I thought this word might ber understood as I meant.
Well I wanted to say some kind of competition with awards according to various categories :_
Best Concertinas, Players, Makers most handsome Player more or less serious.
A Street Gig sounds nice !

concours ?
Excuse, I have been to busy or lazy to look to the dictionary, Ricahrd.
I thought in some kind of competition, establishing differnt categories.
I do not feel sure abourt it, but somebody might like it.
Street Gig sounds nice !

Hello again,
my proposal does not find for the moment the response I thought.
I insist :
Where are the beginners needing help in form of special Tutor Recortdings, which I have got for the Anglo Concertina ?
Are there no Semi-advanced Players wanting to learn new Tunes, who would appreciate that a more advanced player would assisst them with a recording which could explain and advise aboutr fingering and play the dificult passages at a slower speed ?
Nobody intertstzed to interchange ionternationally tunes and get into a closer contact with players over the world ?
I have received by private mail one or the other offer for help in my prohect. Thanbk you.
Forgive if I am bopring you.
Kind regards

As Morgana says lets go ahead brainstorming ! Would like to read your ideas !

Yes, it is conveniet to ask for off season.
I repeat my arguments in favour of December :
1. Onbe year in front for saving
2. As far as I know there are very few Concertina Meeting in Decmber anywhere
3.I do not know, but imagine that possibily when in Eurpe and also parts ofg USA it will be cold and wet, there might nice wheather, which I do not mind too much for Concertina Playing
4.Such an event, such a venture must be merited. So after a year of motivated working will come the premium
Last not least in Decmeber is my birthday. (a lotlle joke)
These reasons are making me the campaign for December.
I would try to adapt to any other month, but I think it would be good to have some months ion front for makuing the money. Consequently and as a father of kids still in School age, I think it should be in any case after summer holydas.
Ref. Ireland I agree totally with you.
Henk let´see if we can go together to Mrs. Crottys Festival next year. Seems to be a great event.

Crazy idea, great idea !
Fidji or Hawai isnot really important. Richard Morses proposal Hawai sounds good to me.
New Year as a date, perhaps problematic to all of us, who we have family. Cannot imagine to celebrate New Year separatzed from my family, until now. You never know.
Imagine there will be more playerws in same psoition.
#But December souinds good, giving timer to save money, end of a hopefully succesful year, having been workoing all the motivated by this great idea, could it be a well merited premium (My birthday is in December also !!)
Resuming :
Highly interested top meet more crazy Concertina Players and other Music plöaying or singing persons in Hawai in December 2004. Jim and Richard could organize it. I am reaady to help, wherever it could be possible.
Full of expectation and hope it might come true IU send you all kind regards

After having answered to Ryan yesterday, also it came to my mind, that a Bandoneon might be the rioght instrument for Ryan. But consioder Size and weight.
I feel pretty sure that there are no Anglos double reeded on the shelf.
Nevertheless as promissed, Ryan, I shall confirm you if I have found the right man to produce what you have been initially interested in good quality and for around 1000 US$.
I cannot agree that the Stagis or German ones, relartively cheap, necesarily will get easy out of tunign.
I had a Honer for twenty years and no problem.
I played Stagis, no problem
I own a German one, made in Eastern Germany, ex DDR, I made it examine, as I bought from soembody using it as decoration for about 5 year. It was o.k and sound nice.
Listen to the song perforenmd by Harry Scurfield on his CD "Anglo in the Dark", called Two Tennors / Officers Polka nr. 9. It is perforemd on a Stagi C-2 double reeded. It sounds intersting.
I owned also a Stagi Hayden Duett and the quality was o.k. for a non profgessional use.
By the other hand why not to use a small Melodeon ?

Hi, Jim
you can account also on my vote as Chairman and Organiyzer for the First Fidji Squeeze-in.
This year it might be too late to organize it properly.
How about 2004. Will start tio save soime money.

Tony,
is it an old or a recent model ?
Can you e-mail a photo ?
Is it Anglo or English, I mean diatonic changin tone when activcating a button and opening and closing the bellows or has it the same tone when opening and closing ?
Any idea about the tuning ?
Knowing the instrument you are speaking about, it should be no problem to help you.
Kind regards
Joachim

David,
I feel we are misunderstanding completely.
No I do not want to travel as much as needed.
No there are not enough Concertina Players around.
For the moment in Spainmn IO know about one and heard about another one.
In Germnay might be about 40 players.
My proposal is to overcome this difficulty by interchjanging Recordings, proivate recordings performed by ourselfeds, helping us each other to improve our skill and knowledge.
In any case thank you sinderely for all your pacience and your offer to sned me some sound file.
I shall mail you priovately tomorrow, sionce it is now near midnight and I feel really tired.
No I di not get aware that I could magnify your note sheet. Thanks for the advise4.
Good night !
Kind regards
Joachim
-
Ryan,
you mention that you would like to play the accordeon and later you ask for a Stagi C-2.
A stagi C-2 is a 20 mbutton German type Concertina.
I myself have the interest to find a 25 button (fully chromatic) or 30 button Concertina with two or three reeds per tone, but as far I have researched this kind of instrumetn ios not usual, it would be Custom Tailored.
Still this year I shall vist (or latest Januiary 2004) Stagi in Italy.
I am also in contract with a German Concertina producer in Eastern Germany, who has done something halfway in th e past.
I have the address of a man also located in Eastern Germany, who might be able and willing to produice something as you wish and me too.
I thopught to cointact him this week.
If you get any supllementary info please report to me.
I shall comunicate you the result of my researches. ok?
