William,
I had problems with my computer.
I looked myseklf in google and found the page of the Amecian Dealer of the instrumetn.
Before reading Stephens post, my comment would have been :
I must rectify muy previous post, since have been confused.
I had notice about this instrument speaking with Juergen Suttner and also with a Company which was supposed to be the manufactuer.
Chris we arew not speaking about a 20 button 200 Dollar instrument
We are speaking about a Wheatstohne, perhaps low model reproduction, with 30 keyas and a serious action.
William, this cannot be compoared to the Stagi, whioch are nice instruments in my opinion. I owned several.
Practicaklly all of the modern Concertinas are uysing Accordion reeds, only a few have accordion reeds which are manullay tuned by the manufacturer.
I myself own a medium range Concertina about 1750 Euros and it does not sound as the old vintage instrumetns. Some of the new ones are coming close.
Anmyway a Accordion reed in the Concertina body and Concertyina reed chambers sounds good.
Stephen hss certaily not done this effort, just to produce a cheap, low quality instrument.
Well Stephen is explaining better than me.
I tried to fiund hinm in order to advise about this discussion and give him a chance to explain, without knowing jhim personally.
My impression is that his project is interesting and I wouyld like to test one.
If he can sell you one or the American dealer has one, I would probabnly buy it, certaionly being a beginner.
There are other nice instruments I might prefer but they cost double price at least.
Kind regards

William,
have received your e-mail but have no time to reply today. Will do it tomorrow.
But meanwhile I have read Chris reply and what he says confirms the little bit I knew :
It is produced in Germany, by one of the last producer of German Concertinas.
The quality prioce / relationship will be o.k. but impossible to expect that the 200 or 250 US$ Cioncertina can compare with the medium class you mention.
For a starting piurpose it could work.

Stephen, Michael,
if you have a look to my proposal "IUnterchanging, Learning Tunes, you can see that I tried to propose something similar inNobvember.
Stepehne, let' s try it outside of the Forum.
Here is my address
Joachim Delp
P.O.Box, 39
E-20.400 Tolosa (Gipuzkoa)
Spain
Send me the notes of the Tunme you propose and if you wish play it and record it on a tape as good as you know it, (or on a mini-disc.
I shall do my best to learn and to comment to you my experience and ask you about yours.
Why we are so shy to record our not perfect playing and expoise it to critics and advise and to consolate us, that others fight with the same difficulties we do ?
As a non expert wioth computer and with a relative low sight problem and lck of time I do not handle my computer as good as I should, but I am learning.
I can recpord sound clips into the computer and I guess also send via Internet.
I shall learn it withion short.
I also have a sopft ware, to record more perfectly into the computer, but fdo not master it by now.
But pateince and lets correpsond.
Me might ionform to the forum from time to time waht we are doing and gradually others mighty join to our group.
And then we shall found ouir ICLTA and can organize annula gatherings....
well for the m0ment only a jioke.
Michaekl you will join too.
Less discussion , more action, please.
Kind regards

Jim,
this is near to what I pretended, when I opened a Topic "Learning, Interchanging Tunes.
From my experience, I think there will be no great interest to open an extra forum, an perhaps it diues not make really sense.
My impression is to invite from time to time people to inform wht they are learning and then to react and if possible interchange REcordings, Note Sheets, Comments, etc.
Reasons :
1. Most people seem to play Irish
Enpugjh Tune Books, Sessions etc. No need. Exception for Beginners as me
and I can imagine some specially beuatiful and reare tune.
2. My topic gave me as a result CD's, Tutor TApe, Sokme Note sheet, apart of more or less interesting cometns.
Enougjh stuff for a wwile to work on. At least for me it is impossible to work more at the same time. And only concentrating the efforts to a small selection, if not better one single tune, I would never learn nothing at all.
3. I had fantastic, and I think nice ideas, like organising an active interchange and mutual teaching on distance, competitions, Awards, Annaul gatherings, meetings among this mroe or less small group sharing this interst. And still I think there willcome the time I shall organize something, but among the contacts made, corresponmdiong with the persons whio showed opern fpo thos ideas.
If such a forum would be opened, I would be interested and look frequently to it.
Nevertheless I inform that I am working (in the reduced free time) in order to learn :
Basque dances and Tunes
Irish Tunes
But more cponcentrated I am working on :
Harry Scurfields CD "Anglo in the DArk" and here in particular oin a a Tune called Blaze away, which is a nice Parade March. I already have spent quite a time on it, but still it will take weeks until I hope to play almost nicely.
I must work an Alan DAys Tutor Tape, as a moral obligation (joke) but mroe because I like it
There is Chris Droneys CD Fertile Rock. I started on it and something I have learned, but it must be polished.
As you see, quyite a task for a not too talented slightly advance player.
Nevertheless, MOPRGANA (and this the danger for me, about such a topic) it sounds extremely intersting what you are explaing, what you are just now learning.
And : Any chance to get a copy of your recors, you are mentionning (or ionformation where to get the music)
I would like to hear you playing it and your advises about difficulties and how you are resolving them.
I am rteady to send you music from here, mainly Basque music, I am preapered to recor my playing less that I think uyou would enjoy verty much, but in order to oblige me to concentrate and train and also for listening uyour critics.
When I proposed my topic, one of the reasons, also has been, that I like to be ion contact with myh Concertina Brothers and sisters alñl over the world.
That is fun and occasionally ther is born a friendly relationshiip or even a friendship.
Well Mortga, will I read from you ?
Kind regars

Helen,
May I recommedn you :
Fran Edgleys Irish Session Tune Book, which comes togehter with an intersting CD,.
He perfomrs the tunes (more or less a 50 % of the Tunes noted in the Book, as fa as I know he planned to edit a second CD with the rest), playing the tunes in two versions, once a bit slower in order to make it easier to leran it, and a seciond tiome at speed.
I find it very helpful.
Kind regards

Wonderful Concertina World !!
Me too, I would like top help, but in this case I am not able to do so.
But sure that I shall have my opportunity.
I also own a copy of Alans Tape and I like it and shall work on it.
Writen Music would be helpful and worthwhile in my modest opinion.
The CD is also intersting, since it allows to use the Slow Downer.
Thnaks for the positive attidude of everypone.

Hi Bob, Hi Dave and all you,
I am coming !!!
Just now I have reserved my cottage.
Will work hard the first weeks of the year to jsutify, tjhis expense and one more
"Concertina Capriocho".
Ross, hope to benefit your workshiop.
Bob, would it be a reasonable idea, that you might give a workshop about maintenace and repaoirr, as I know you hgave done before ?
One last question Dave :
I understand that the Squeeze in will start the 5 thg of March in the morning 5.00 h clock.
I undersanmd from this, that arrival time conveniently should be the 4 th in the afternoon, so I made my reservation for the nightss
4/5 of Marcgh, 5/6 of March and 6/7 of March.
Is this o.k. or shgould I moduify it somehow ?
Thanks in advance

Helen,
yes I behaved like a child with its new shoes ! did not arrive to the püoint to jump on the streets, but I told to anybody who wanted and also to whom did not want, that I got a new Concertina, and was nervous all the time, until the seller and new Concertina bud, came to bring it to me.
I played the rest of tjhe day, and we celebrated a little dinner in honour of My sponsor, Lady Ilse.
For her I must try copmpose, find or imporvise some walty.
If I am not able, I shall tell to Concertina Friends with occasion of a next meeting about her, and I shall try to do siomething in cooperation.
If you come to the Southeast Squeeze in , March 2004 we might have a chance to meet and youmay lokk, listen and also play it.
Thank you for sharing my excitement.
Henk,
thank you for your advice. I shall check it with time. And comment result of research.
I have this Bookl, which in German Concertina Players recommendd to me as the "Bible of the Concertina", written by Maria Dunkel, and it seems that also there I should find the right explanations.
I do not know actually, what precisely might be a Chemnitzer. Perhaps so were called the Instruments produced in Chemniotz and suirroundings.
UHLIG, I do not know for the moment if his production places were or not located in Eastern Germany and particularly in or around Chemnitz.
I understand that UHLOG was one opf the most significant Makers, beside Arnold, and his outlay has been differnt from Arnold.
But will fiond out.
I am sure that I shall enjhoy the page (web) indicated by you very much.
I give for sure also that you will pay this Concertina very soon, perhaps still this year or beginnint the new year.
Regards to aou all.

Dave,
please one more question :
Cottage / Lodge ?
Thanks
Joachim
-
Dave,
please help me, due to a low side problem and the to print out anything beforte being able to rtread and also the fact that I am in hurry, have to travel urgently to Spain in order to work, and I have lost a day, since I HAD to buy a concertina, special stuff, I ask you to inform :
1. Price of lodgings and how to reserve it ?
2.Nearest Airport and how to arrive to the place
3. Name of the Place, where to go.
I have informed myself today and have learned that IO could travel for about 500 US$, which I consder reaasonable and I guess I can find it cheaper.
So I wish to come.
Since I am not allowed to drive, I would prefer to stay nearby to walk or come by cycle., although I rtrust to find colleagues who would be rteady to give a lift.
I am very interested in the prtojected workshop for Slow Airs on the Anglo by Ross.
Would be ready if there is nobody else and better than me help beginners.
When is limit for registrations and for lodge reservations.?
Thank you uin advance for your kind informatiuon.
Regards
Joachim

Thanks Saron,
For the moemt I am able to paly some songs, folk songs in ocatvae playing on it in C.
The layout is till unkjown but will find out. I have good book written by Maria Dunkel about Akkordeon, Bandoneon and _Concertina >History and evolution wiuth all kind of layouts of the _Cioncertinas build in Germ, any.
Jim,
will invetigate in the web youi indicate me, thank you.
No idea if you are right, I guess no, since the differences I found in hurry on my Anglo, are big.
For thje moment I doubt that it has any other row like a G-Row, but some repeated buttons, and semi-.tonmes.
Anyway some need to repaired, what I shall make do in Soaonn within short.
I shall confirm you what I find oput. And if not come to Spain and can play together once more. or latest I hope to meet you in the Scandinavian Squeeze in and no doubt I shall bring the instzrument with me.
By the way I forgot to mention, that also Advance Player Jim Lucas has recorded for me on tape some of his own compiostions, which I almost hadfd löearned, although he was doing iut on an English Concertina.
It will be a duty to learn them again until Sweden. I had learned already three of them, but meanwhile I have not repeated.
I had to trevael to Sopain today, I had sent some questions to the Seller, finally he phoned me this morning and I convince him to sell diorectly to me for a fix price. I guess the special argumetn was that I woudl be prepared to give him privbate beginners lessons and that I loaned him my German Cioncertina.
So he came to my house, I had to pospne my Travel pro´ject for one day more
and now I have the Concertrina and he will retire his offer.
It is mine. And I am really lucky, since it is compact size and souinds intersting for certaion koind of music, mainly folk.
Regards
Joachim
