  1. I grew up playing bass guitar through my teens. I had a very good teacher that taught me jazz and a strong understanding of musical theory. In my 20's I toyed around with a cross harp and a lap steel as I was growing an interest in Blues. I was hoping to work my way to a lovely brass body, biscuit cone, square neck resonator. I always had trouble spending the money on a quality guitar though cause I just couldn't convince myself that I was committed. Then a couple of years ago, after a dry season of serious music playing and really only playing around on a kalimba for relaxation, some how or another I came across the concertina. I have always loved the sound of free reed instruments and the small form factor. To me the best instruments are the ones you can take most anywhere. I have always loved music and wanted to be able to play it, but the concertina was the first instrument that I enjoyed to play for the instrument's sake. I wanted to play the concertina because I enjoy the concertina. So now I mainly only play my concertina and a ocarina I purchased last year to play at work when I have down time.
  2. Selling my Elise Hayden Duet Concertina. I got it just over a year ago new from Liberty Bellows. I have been unable to locate the tutor with that originally came with it. It is a good condition and all the buttons work and reeds sound good. I am asking for $300 plus shipping. https://freeimage.host/i/JnFUpYF https://freeimage.host/i/JnFUm21 https://freeimage.host/i/JnFUDrP
  3. Bump I am reducing the price to $800 + Shipping. Sorry I don't know why the pictures are not working but I can link them to people if they want to see it.
  4. I'm currently looking to let go of my Stagi Hayden Duet concertina. I got it back in December new from Red Cow Music. I thought I would play it more often than I do but I hardly ever pick it up I prefer playing on my Elise due to the button layout and weight. I'd like to pass it on to someone else who would get better use out of it. I have a hard case that will come with it as well. I am located in Southern California. I am asking for $1000 + shipping or best offer.
  5. That is exciting to read. Thank you for sharing.
  6. How is that prototype working out? Any updates ?
  7. So I was looking at Jay's concertina's and I took a moment to really look at the tritone fingering setup. It looks really intuitive. I'm curious if anyone has ever tried it yet? I originally came from but the note locations would constantly confuse me. This looks like with the way my mind works I would be able to really grasp onto the system.
  8. You seem like the guy to talk to then on the matter of the Troubadour. Did you notice any difference in the action or the quality when comparing it to playing an Elise? Did you go for the standard bellows or the upgrade?
  9. This is the main factor for me as well that drew me to the instrument. I would like something I can play in between customer calls on the road with me and when I am hiking/camping. Since I solely play by myself it hasn't been too much of an issue since I transposed most of songs I play into a key that the Elise can handle. I have wondered about trying other systems and was even curious if I can get the results I'm looking for out of an anglo, but I do feel very limiting compared to a duet. Cranes are an interesting alternative. Do they sit around the 6 1/4 flat to flat range?
  10. This is really exciting to read. I love the idea of a 3D printed instrument just for more available production sake and durability. I will be looking forward to seeing what you produce!
  11. Thank you for this input as you come from a Stagi back round. It makes me excited for the future. The idea of the smaller concertina is to have for traveling. If the instrument is sitting at home it is a no brainier as to go for the Peacock, but for something to carry around with me is the higher price tag going to scare me more should it gets damaged, lost, or stolen during my travels. If the reeds are the same quality as the Elise then I could see holding on to the Elise just because of the much cheaper price tag to travel with and then get a Peacock as my stepping stone to a W2 I just checked out the Jay's and that is a really nice option. Thank you for pointing this out as I can see a lot of promise for something like that in the future. Lord willing I am hoping to be ready to put in an order by early next year.
  12. Hello. I started playing the back in November. I have both an Elise and the Stagi Hayden. I like playing the Elise most of the time except for the rare times I find myself needing the extra range. I have noticed the quality in the reed performance between the two. With the Elise I need to use considerably more force to get the reeds to sing compared to the Stagi. I am looking to know what my next step will be in the future: the troubadour or the peacock. I like the size of the troubadour more and I don't mind the buttons as I am able to do a lot already with the Elise, however the peacock looks to come with better reeds based on the CC site. Are there any troubadour owners that can speak on the sensitivity of the reeds when playing?
  13. Hello. Long time browser reading forums but now decided to join. I am looking to begin my journey into the concertina. I was thinking of purchasing a Mcneela English as a starter but thought I would reach out here to see if anyone had a 48k English they are letting go at a price I can afford.
