  1. Selling my little used 30 button Stagi Anglo. Model W15LN (black Lacquer ends) Bought new 6 months ago, I recently moved up to a Morse Ceili and no longer use it. 'As new' condition. Good beginner or second instrument. $375.00 richard.h.parker@smithbarney.com
  2. Alan Day's comments are well taken. However, I think I did not give accurate expression to my thoughts. From an absolute beginners perspective, it seems that all the instuctional materials that I'm working with make a quantum leap forward from playing simple, single handed melodys and scales to incorporating left hand accompaniment. What I was really asking for is this: Is there a progressive way of bringing in left hand baselines and chords to a melody? Suggestions for tunes or exercizes that improve dexterity would be helpful. That said, I know there's no substitute for regular and persistant practice.
  3. Forgive my ignorance but what is the difference between an accordian reed and concertina reed? I'm reluctant to open up my Stagi for fear that I might not be able to get it back together again. Something is already rattling around in there. My Stagi supposedly has accordian reeds, so that begs the question are their accordians in existence with concertina reeds? maybe they are known as acortinas or concercordians!
  4. Can anyone suggest a few simple songs and accompanying cords for a beginner on a 30 button c/g Anglo? I am trying to teach myself and I'm having difficulty trying to incorporate chords to a melody. Alan Day's instructional CD has some useful information and he demonstrates a couple of very handy fingering exercizes. I also have Bertram Levy's book and CD, but I stumble each time I try to add the chords to the melody. I'm having difficulty trying to get one set of fingers to do one thing and the other set seem to have a mind of their own. Is this a common problem for a beginner? I have no prior musical experience therefore any suggestiions to attain dynamic digital dexterity would be appreciated. I feel like a handcuffed crab!
  5. I'm relly trying to dermine if anyone has any information about the recurring concertina music to the film mentioned. I prefer Anglo myself but I suspect the theme music to the film was played on an English concertina. I dont know too much about musical theory but I've been trying for years to recreate the theme music from the film on my Anglo to no avail. All I know is that the music was composed by the venerable film music composer John Addison and conducted by Dock Mathieson who produced most of the music for the Ealing films during the 50's. I have seached for the score to this film for many years but I think I'm out of luck. Thanks for the reply
  6. The aforementioned movie features a very pleasant and haunting tune played on a concertina. Does anyone know what type of instrument used and if this music is available anywhere. The music in the film inspired me to take up the concertina several years ago. Sound clips may be available at... http://www.screenonline.org.uk/film/id/496542/index.html Two other tunes with a nautical flavour stick in my mind which could lend themselves very well to the instrument would be the theme tunes to two British childrens TV programmes, "Captain Pugwash" and "Blue Peter" Both are available here... http://tv.cream.org/specialassignments/themes/1.htm Any help would be greatly appreciated...Rick
