  1. not come across an ABC but this link should go to Eric Theze's page with the score, I ended up copying it out longhand on manuscript paper (no printer) and have spent this morning writing out the chord progressions, (again longhand on bits of paper) with title and Eric Theze's name on so everyone knows it's his composition, as the guitarists and mandolin players in the sessions have fallen for the tune too Eric Theze is the headmaster of an Art School as well as a bandoneon player and pianist, If it's going in the ICA magazine then this LInks page should help with contacting him for permissions
  2. The FILO folk session/singaround is back. Every Saturday from 8pm at the First Inn Last Out in Whitby. A friendly mix of songs and tunes run by Stu T and Chris C, much the same as it was before but now at the smaller end of the pub for a really cosy get together when I know what's happening during Folk Week I'll post the details
  3. Hello I can't add anything extra to the advice about choosing a concertina except to try as many different ones as you can before you buy and if you know an experienced player take them with you when you're shopping to (hopefully) spot any major faults, especially in 2nd hand instruments. Whereabouts in England are you? If you want to meet other concertina players and chat about the different makes the International Concertina Association have regional groups or if that sounds a bit formal then your local folk club or morris side might know of concertina players near you

The Captain Cook Inn, Staithes, North Yorkshire, TS13 5AD, will once again be hosting the annual Staithes Acoustic Music Festival from Wednesday 25th through to Sunday 29th July 2012 As per previous years everyone is welcome and there is only one rule.... NOTHING CAN BE PLUGGED IN - MUST BE ACOUSTIC. This event is very informal, as anybody who has attended in the past will know, and nobody books a spot - it is a case of everyone taking turns one song at a time and whoever wants to join in plays along and accompanies. There will be some excellent deals to be had at The Cook as per usual with offers such as FISH, CHIPS, MUSHY PEA'S AND A PINT OF REAL ALE FOR JUST £6.50 Also this year due to popular demand there will be a choice of TEN REAL ALES, CIDER AND PERRY Bed and Breakfast at The Cook is already fully booked but Roraima House (8 doors along the road) still as a few vacancies. Their phone number is (01947) 841423. Camping is available through Vanessa Ditchburn and starts at £5.50 per tent per night including fully plumbed showers and toilets. Camper vans and caravans with electric hook-ups are also catered for and dogs are welcome. Vanessa can be contacted on (01947) 840882, mobile 07854953986 or email:- vanessaditchburn(at)hotmail.co.uk As this event was originally set up to raise funds for charity it as been decided to revert back to just that. 5. getting away from the drink .... .... there's a lovely lilting mazurka,"Pauline", gif attached, composed by Eric Theze, which is becoming popular in the local sessions. Sounds great on concertina, especially if there are mandolin and guitar players in the session to ripple through the chords is

  12. that's interesting as, back in '89, when I ordered my Anglo from Colin Dipper he said he'd make it of rosewood from an old piano ........ the ultimate recycled instrument perhaps .............. a minaturised grand piano ?
  13. there'll probably be enough of us sat on chairs in the corner to start a decent scratch band
  14. have got the form filled out ready to post ........ but £20 is hardly a 'nominal' sum for a lot of people on tight budgets, especially just after Christmas
  15. ... just a thought ..... perhaps they have to send you an e-mail with an activation link in it before your registration goes through and the login works properly
  16. I've not come across that website before, no snail mail address or telephone details to be seen for the owners ...... but on their links page to other concertina clubs there are contact details, e-mail/phone for each club so maybe someone from one of the other clubs might be able to help
  17. if your eyes are playing up then so are mine .... if they're not the same photo then it's amazing how the white paper under the concertina is at exactly the same angle in both postings
  18. Hello Larry as Daniel says, it does look more like a chemnitzer. I know Minnesota's a bit away from South Carolina but it might be worth contacting the Czech Area Concertina Club for chemnitzer concertina players They might have some members living near you and their site has lots of useful information Ann

Done hearing the tune followed by looking at the dots/listening to the midi for me although I can read music (slowly), sight reading has never been a strong point so hearing the tune is the best way to fix it in my memory but I don't always recall it exactly as heard (hearing it first in G but getting home and remembering it in D or A can be a bit of a so and so for sessions) the dots, sound file keep me right anyone else find that some tunes are retained after one 'listen' yet others never 'stick' no matter how often you hear them?
  20. nice one, it's been added to the 'to learn after Christmas' pile
  21. Thankyou I didn't expect you to take the trouble to do it so quickly, it's a charming tune
  22. oooh ..... a medley..... Lady Pentweazles Creaking Bedstead ...... ducks behind sofa.....
  23. ..... I'll have to learn it just to see the look on peoples faces when they hear what it's called
  24. Sometimes you can find good secondhand leather belts of the right thickness in charity shops might be cheaper than buying small quantities of new leather and if you're lucky and it's a wide belt you can cut several straps from it I've not seen a concertina with rope hand straps before, they've usually had leather ones. Does the rope chafe the back of your hands?
  25. hear hear I'm not a facebook member either but I did get round to joining the ICA what really put me off facebook was the way it took them months to shut/suspend my late husband's account despite having the meaning of deceased explained to them in detail several times. his being dead is no barrier to getting e-mails from them saying how much fuller his 'life' would be if he re-activated his account
