  1. I will often go camping with the boy scouts as I have 4 sons and one of my friends asked me if I would take my Edgley to play by the campfire. My reply was - "Not on your life." I would be scared to death that it would get wet, ruined. That wouldn't be my fear with a campfire.
  2. I guess we should call that a success. Anyone for Donkey Riding? Gav Nice couple of recordings! Horse riding? http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1453366
  3. Alan and Carol did, indeed, pop up almost anywhere; sometimes booked at festivals, other times just turning up. I recall seeing them at Edinburgh Folk Festival (when I lived in Peterhead), and, more recently (but still a few years ago) at an Irish pub in Croydon (one which Reg Hall used to frequent). Please give Alan and Carol my regards, when you next see them. Peter.
  4. Oh goody! As long as Jody is happy, I would say put them up on your site, plus add them to the YouTube concertina group. You could add a link from this thread, plus Leo will pick then up on his weekly trawl. Nice to know that the event happened; too often, on C.net, these events get pre publicity (which is essential), but no follow-up. Makes the likes of myself wonder whether they actually happened. Also; a couple of photos with happy, smiling, faces could work wonders for any future event. Regards, Peter.
  5. I've not had that trouble since I stopped playing! Neighbours don't bang on the walls, either.
  6. Sounds vaguely Scottish to me. I'm glad that you recorded this on the C/G; nicer tone (in my opinion). Let's hope it has the desired effect on your Fans' Club numbers. Regards, Peter.
  7. Whilst Fiona's photos show the normal 6 endbolts, what made me think this instrument to be an early Jeffries was the fact that the fretwork is not held in place by the endbolts, but by 6 screws instead. I've not seen this on other Jeffries instruments, but then I've never seen a really early one (other than in the Horniman Museum, if memory serves correctly).
  8. All leave cancelled for the next two days!
  9. What; and photograph everyone milling about near the base of the plinth? The role reversal would be an interesting concept, and is probably not what the organises had in mind! It might result in images like this: http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1400525 I haven't checked on the website, but there's a fair chance that someone else has already thought of the idea! it would bring a new thought on which is the 'art' and which are the people viewing the art. 'Who watches the watchers?' you'd get some good pics. I don't think its that high really http://www.flickr.com/photos/ladydetemps/3713914590/ I've just checked; it's been done: http://www.amateurphotographer.co.uk/news/...ews_287049.html
  10. Yes, I think that means it has left the US. Are you going to have to pay much VAT on it? I have no idea...it was all a bit confusing. A bit confusing, what with other charges which seem to get loaded on. However, if you assume in the region of 20% (ouch) you will not be too far out. At least the £/$ ratio is better than a few months ago.
  11. I guess you will start to get excited when the item is shown to have arrived in the UK. Then it will seem to take for ever to clear Customs and make its way to rural Essex.
  12. British Reserve: http://www.allianzmusicalinsurance.co.uk/ Fortunately; I've never had to claim, but I've used them for 20+ years.
  13. I thought that they were given out when promoted "upstairs", with plenty of time to practice.

  15. Attach a bass drum to my back symbols to knees....rather like Bert from Mary Poppins. Get on that plinth! I'd probably get the middle of the night shift...I like my sleep. You'ld probably get the middle of the day shift .... when you are supposed to be working.
  16. Sounds like a topic for a new thread "Concertina Double Acts".
  17. AL is there anything that can be done about it? I think the only real option is to travel back in time. Some websites do, eventually, die, and content can seem to disappear. Let's hope that does not happen to C.net! I guess that people might be mildly amused by some of the "rants" which appear from time to time. The motto is; if you don't want it to be there (potentially) for "ever", don't post it. Of course, if someone now finds Alan's post about "Joe Bloggs Concertina player", they might end up using Google to find out more about him.
  18. Don't try it with your new concertina!
  19. And I think we know who used to own it!
