  1. Noobie: Here's a link to a recording I did the other day: https://photos.app.goo.gl/fzQeuHHkz5ewFUhL6 D scale and the Rolling Wave. I looked at the website and I'm not sure the difference between the "new" swan and the one I have. If you email Mcneela they can probably tell you what might have changed in the last few years. They were very responsive when I've emailed in the past.
  2. This was my first concertina, it was a great instrument to learn on. I played it for a year and a half and then decided to upgrade. It has just been serviced and gone over by a Dan Beer here in Portland and is in good working order. Price is $600 + shipping. I can send a video of me playing the instrument on request.
  3. How are people liking this course as few months on? I was curious to see how this course is different from Caitlin's and watched the intro video. I was surprised at how little (none, really) concertina playing there is on the video or promo page, it's almost entirely Padraig Mcneela doing a hard sales pitch for the Christmas specials. For people who signed up in summer, are you allowed to access these special modules with all the bells and whistles and secret tricks for getting invited to a session? It would be nice to at least be able to see a sample lesson before giving him your credit card, though I respect expect this is part of the sales strategy. I do like the idea of learning from another perspective but will probably finish Catilin's intermediate course first.
  4. Hi Don, I started about a year and a half ago and I'm really enjoying it, and starting to play in sessions now. You're never too old to learn, in my opinion. I don't think you need a very fancy instrument to start, but definitely don't get the base model. As others have said, it will be very hard to play and discourage you. Also check this course from one of the best players out there. It's organized extremely well and will get you up and playing very quickly. https://www.irishconcertinalessons.com/course_introduction/1 Here's my story if it helps. First I put out a call on Facebook to any friend who might have a concertina I could try out to see if I liked the feel of it. From that I tried an English Stagi, which was pretty hard to play, but definitely got me excited about really learning. I knew I wanted to play Irish, and found the Mcneela website with their different models. I then found a lightly used Swan for sale on the forums here for about half off retail. I think Mcneela is having a black Friday sale now also. The Swan has been great for learning, high enough quality to be playable but not break the bank if you don't end up liking it.
  5. Interesting, yes it's definitely a fade away issue. Did your issue come on suddenly? I'm just confused about what could have caused the pad to stop sealing.
  6. Hello, Looking for advice on whether this is fixable by myself or whether a professional is required, and if so, is there anyone in the Portland, OR area who might be able to do it. My McNeela Swan has started to sound rather sad on the left side G/A note. It's like if a duck were succumbing to a terrible illness. I took off the left side cover plate to see if there was anything obvious obstructing that note, everything looked clean. I can upload a video later if that's necessary, but thought I'd see if there was an obvious fix.
  7. Interested in learning more. Are the reeds used concertina reeds?
  8. Hello, Can I ask the reason you're selling so soon after getting it? Also your location for shipping? Thanks!
