WARREN TARGETT
Career Biography
Vocalist and player of 6 and 12 string guitars,
baritone ukulele, 4 string banjo, autoharp.
Warren Targett has been a professional performer and teacher of music on fretted stringed instruments for over fifty-five years. He has a fine singing voice, and plays acoustic and electric guitars, baritone ukulele, four string banjo, bass guitar and autoharp. Warren has worked as an entertainer, band member and solo performer on variety stages in Australia and overseas; on television, radio and recording studios; as a stage show musical director; street theatre director; as a composer of incidental music and as a songwriter. Warren is a left handed player and has definite views on acceptance of this “condition” in the musical community.
Warren has no particular favourite genre of music. He loves performing songs with good stories … songs about the human condition … no matter what the style. He’s a true balladeer. And, when he performs, he loves to take his audiences on a musical journey.
For three years in the 1970s, Warren was the featured performer on the ABC Radio’s school children’s programme, ”Let’s Have Music”. In the 80s, he was a regular performer at Jenolan Caves House, performing his “Rollin’ To Jenolan” Show to visitors weekly for five years.
As a musical educator, Warren says that music learning never ceases. All players should be open to new forms of the art. “It’s all just notes to play!” Since retiring from full-on teaching eight years ago, Warren still performs and hosts clinics and workshops at music clubs and festivals.
Whether as a performer, a backing musician or tutor, Warren Targett is a welcome addition to any musical event line up.
