  1. Sure, you'll be my second customer, Pm me with any further questions or specs for the instrument. Thanks!
  2. I talked to him about building a C/G bass once and he said that it would be difficult because of the fact that they use accordion reeds, which would be really slow if weighted down to C1. However, I could buy and use antique reed organ sub bass reeds to achieve notes from C1-C2.
  3. Maybe me within the next couple years, I'm trying to start a free reed instrument making business. I am in the process of building a foot bass for my first customer at the moment, it is a long process though. 🙂
  4. Hi Martin, it is a G/D, I saw a video of him on Facebook talking about it, the lowest note is G1. It'd be a much bigger instrument if it was a C/G, if it wasn't, it'd have less buttons or be slower due to short scale reeds and compromised chamber length.
  5. Oh, and it'd be on the slot sides, to completely answer your question. I assume you could glue it but I would test without glue first.
  6. You wouldn't have to glue it, just friction fit.
  7. I assume thin suede or chamios leather would work nicely. It'd definitely be a tighter fit both air wise and size wise.
  8. I was reading from my concertina maintenance manual and it said to use paper, can't remember what type but I'll check later.
  9. https://akkordeon-museum.ch/j-solari-ft-bruxelles-4-reihen-diato-chromatisch/ Here's a similar museum instrument, I assume anyways, from the reeds.
  10. I started learning drums when I was 4, I stopped playing drums nearly as often when I started piano accordion 1.5 years later, then over 9 years I picked up multiple instruments, such as the English concertina, Anglo concertina, Chemnitzer concertina, upright bass, organs of all shapes and sizes, bass guitar, autoharp, steel tongue drum and then probably some I'm forgetting, but now I have a collection of around 35 instruments. I am currently only 15 years old. One of my goals is to start the largest free reed museum in the world one day that is also a usable studio.
  11. Thanks, I will check. Thank you for giving me some insight to what kind of leather would be best.
  12. Hello, Im in the process of building a Basse aux peids, and I need a large amount of leather that is soft enough to be usable for bellows, pre-skived or not doesn't matter. Thanks Kane.
  13. Any specific layout you would like? How low would you like this instrument to go? If you are Interested PM me and we will discuss it further. Thanks, Kane.
  14. Hello, I'm making this post here because I have no better place. I'm only 15 years old, but one of my two main ambitions in my life is that I would like to make and start my own free reed instruments business. Since I discovered bass concertina 5 years ago I have started building and or designed projects before (single action 29 button G-bass concertina, Basse aux peids, 24 button anglo concertina and a few more.) but never got super far for no clear reason, just dwindling determination, or motivation, or lack of tools I suppose. But over the last half of my life I have been studying the intricacies of these instruments and have gathered a decent amount of knowledge about them. I noticed that there is a large lack of affordable bass concertinas so I am in the process of designing a rectangular 36 button single action C bass concertina using harmonium reeds for about 750 USD, I"m posting to see the kind of interest there might be in such an instrument. I do plan to eventually expand my selection far beyond just that in the near future, but for now that it. Thanks for reading, Kane Fahl.
  15. Hello, I have a (possibly ulhig) 1870s Chemnitzer concertina. The issue is there are 16 tongues per one plate, and some reeds are of center with the reed slot causing an annoying rattling noise, the rivets that hold the tongues are loose, how would I fix this problem? Thanks.
  16. Thats awesome, knowing this I think i'll pick it up for my museum and or collection. If I get it and theirs no spot or I decide against keeping it, i'll look into how I can get it to you.
  17. Hello, I found this concertina at a local antique store, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me more about it, I have not purchased it yet. Here's what I already know, it has 8 sides, 20 buttons, two sets of reeds tuned to MM, C#/G#.
  18. Hello, I am wondering if it is possible to savage old concertina/accordion reed valves and make them like new without replacing them.
  19. You could take the reed out and clamp and glue the crack back together, then put the reed back in.
  20. Thanks for this, this is the first song I heard from him, Whats funny about people of a younger age is that I'm 14. so I dont have the typical taste of someone my age.
  21. What kind of leather is used for valves anyway, I noticed it seems lighter than normal leather.
