  1. Nor has there been a straight on picture of the left side of the instrument. If you truly want to sell this instrument then you need to supply as much information as you can. Also, it wouldn't hurt to know your location in the eastern part of the U.S. or Canada so that any interested parties close to you could give it a play.
  2. Scott, I too admire the position you are taking as custodian for this instrument. If I may, I would like to know for sure if the existing bellows are eight fold as it seems to appear in the photos? Also, are you going to go with six, seven or eight folds for the replacement bellows? Just a few more questions. Where did the instrument come from, what type of music was played on it and most importantly, is the tuning to A 440 pitch, how much tuning has been done on the reeds and by whom? Answers to these questions would be very helpful to anyone interested in buying this Jeffries.http://www.concertina.net/forums/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif
  3. Thanks again for the help Laitch Well, On to bigger and better things. Thanks for looking.
  4. Instrument Sold. Thanks for looking.
  5. Unpleasantness is the cause of two very strong willed and stubborn people listening to only themselves when negotiating business. It is in the past. Thanks for the words of concern and I will do my best to deal with this. I am doing therapy and finally listening to my doctor's orders of what not to do. No more heavy landscaping work, no more snow removal with a shovel and above all, no more car accidents. I will always stay with the harmonica. I have heard it in more and more celtic music in the last few years and the upside is that it is much, much less expensive than a concertina, is still a free reeded instrument with my lungs as the bellows and it doesn't require any special environment to keep it from from becoming damaged. I can even clean it with water. Best to you too David. Steve
  6. Hey All, Thanks for taking a look see on this. It got alot of hits but only one Non-USA response. I will withdraw my offer to sell until after some more therapy. I will still post the pics sooner or later. Currently, I have two house contractors doing work after having a no show for the last 6 weeks. So, I have been busy trying to keep them busy and on task. My family has been out of the house for one full year now and are getting cranky and anxious to get moved back in. I don't think I'm going to buy another old house for historic preservation ever again. I love these old things but after the third one in twelve years I just don't have the stamina or patience. Best Wishes to All, Steve Good player. Nice action, full rich sounding reeds with a slight edge. Comfortable flow to the bellows. I acquired this in a trade. A Carroll for this Suttner. I originally bought this from a fellow c.net member back in early 2000. Just traded back for it about six months or so ago. I am experiencing numbing in the hands and arms after playing a few songs and find it hard to not only know if I am playing the right button let alone even feeling the buttons. This is due to a car accident as a passenger back in college and was told by the doctor then that the affects of the accident would catch up to me in later years. Well, here they are - those dreaded later years. Have accepted that I will be playing the harmonica as my main instrument from now on as I am not quite ready to accept the odds of a full recovery from surgery. This is a nicely built instrument and has been kept in the moderate climate controlled conditions of my house. Nothing sticks and has a very slight detune problem on the low C when to much pressure is applied from bellows on a double C stop. To be sold in the lower 48 states at the asking price (firm) of $5,250.00 USD. I will pay for packaging and shipping. Original ownership records come with it. Standard Jeffries tuning with RH accidental c#/c# d#/e flat. I will post some pics next week. This is a first come first serve sale. I will reply to all inquiries in the order rec'd and will allow for a 24 hour affirmative response before moving on to the next interested party. No bidding wars or counter offers accepted. Price is non-negotiable. e-mail: maurs2@gmail.com
  7. My New Year's Resolution is: To spend less time spending and more time playing and enjoying my playing no matter what my level of proficiency is. My wife and I have given up our cell phones and numerous other electronic and digital belongings that take up way too much of our creative time. Not only are we going to have more time for real time experiences but more money to afford them. Best Regards, Steve Maurice and Family
  8. Item has been sold. Thanks for looking. Paul, I will send a donation based on the asking price listed. Thanks for the service. Steve For Sale is a double travel case for anglo concertinas made by John Fallon. It is about 2 years old with little travel time. Inside and out as good as new. This one cost me $250.00 USD new. Will sell for $180.00 USD plus the shipping costs to any where in North America. I no longer have any need of a double case and would like to have the space it occupies back. Dimensions: 22 1/2 inches end to end, 9 1/2 inches from front to back and 8 inches deep. These things are built to protect. They are much like the Anvil Cases that I kept my PA equipment in back in the 70's and 80's so it was safe from harm and the elements. I haven't weighed the case so have no clue about that but if someone is curious just ask and I'll see if I can find my old scale. The scale and I have parted ways since it started showing me at over 2XX lbs. If interested, please contact me by my e-mail address listed below. I am located in east-central Iowa incase anybody close to the midwest is interested. Check out the pics below. Steve Maurice Iowa, USA s2maur@airolink.com

  11. Speculation is that Linota was a reed maker sometimes employed to supply hand made reeds for wheatstone and that his name was stamped on the palm rest to indicate that the instrument contained his reeds. I can attest that every Wheatstone anglo that was labeled Linota that I have heard played gives off a uniquely distinct sound of its own and is only replicated by another Wheatstone with the same labeling. The sound is very similar to the Uilleann pipes. One of the more talented and recognized of the Linota labeled anglo concertina players is Noel Hill. If you close your eyes when he is doing his rhythmic chording you swear that someone with the pipes is sitting next to him player their regulators for accompyment. I have never heard that sound from any other anglo without Linota stamped on it. The best years for this sound would likely be around 1915 give or take a few years. I have heard three from that era and those boxes have tremendous dynamics and tone. This is not fact but educated rumours that have come up in conversation about Linota over the past six years. No matter what the truth...I think if it is labeled with "Linota" it will most likely have a great sound if someone hasn't taken a chain saw file to them. Steve
  12. The Marantz, M-audio and the Edirol R-1 are all great machines. Yeah, flash cards are the way to go but the only draw back that I have found with them is the fact that the only on location editing that can be done is deleting. That's right! It is impossible to punch in track #'s on the fly either in record or playback. So, what you have at the end of a recording is either lost beginnings of segments because you have to stop record and then start record to get a new track # or you have to break it down on the computer with sound management software. The R-1 has a feature that automatically puts a track where there is a few seconds sound delay but after recording Noel Hill's student concert last August with that feature I had around 180 tracks in about an hour. The mic's don't pick up every noise and think that it is a sound pause and you have a cutoff and then a new track. When I put this on my computer to sort it out it didn't make any difference whether I used the auto track or did the track marks manually....I still ended up with cut offs and the abrupt starts because of the recording startup delay from the noise activation. I think that this flash card technology is on to something because what I heard was alot warmer than I thought it would be and I didn't use any of the onboard effects or eq-ing. I guess we will all just have to be the guinee pigs and put the shortcomings in the product reviews until they decide that everyone that is serious enough to by these handy little field recorders will be willing to pay a little extra for the track marking capability. It would certainly make life easier and cut down on editing time. Steve
  13. Roy, "006 or 009"....you decide.... I'm glad that you have it now. Missed you at the midwest NHICS this year but I understand the economics of the your decision not to come this year. Excellent choice. Now, next year you can suffer like the rest of us and have to learn all of the tunes by ear without benefit of music. Actually, I think that we all benefited from this "folk process". It seemed that we all could play the tunes from beginning to end from memory instead of fumbling around and trying to catch glimpses of the dots on someones score lying face up anywhere near distinguishable eye-shot. Enjoy and Learn Well Button Popper, Steve
  14. Mikey, Why don't you just post the pics here on the buy and sell forum for all to see? You can get at least three hi-res pics and edit to rotate them with new ones every-so-often. This would save you all the trouble and time to embed them in the text of an email or to wait for them to be stuffed and sent in an attachment for each individual request. My two cents worth...... and good luck with your sale. Steve
  15. Roy, You're gonna luv it passionately! Steve
  16. Paul, I have several attacks of mistaken identity. When I look at the serial number at the wrong angle it looks like #900 instead of #006. Steve
  17. Gerry, The custom layout is one that Colin Dipper put on an 1890's Jeffries that I bought in early 2000. It was a modified standard Jeffries layout which had a low F# in place of the d# on the push of the second button right hand accidental. c#/c# F#/e flat. I find that I don't need an e flat on the push but that the F# there is very easy to play in the lower register triplets. It has enabled me to add quite a few songs to my repetoire that I don't think I would have been able to play otherwise. One is "Kid on the Mountain. Paul, The reason the finish looks so much different from the burled walnut is because my #006 is Indian rosewood ended. Go to Wally's site. Mine is featured along with others that Wally has made and I think that there is also a description of the type of wood used on the ends. Regards, Steve
  18. .....and still the thread survives. It was very exciting to observe the reactions of the students in Noel's NHICS midwest class when Noel starting asking for all of the Carroll concertinas to be placed into his hands one at a time to play and compare to his Linota. There ended up being five of them in the room with my #006 as one of them. Concertinas always sound different when listening to one being played by someone else (especially Noel Hill) as opposed to listening and playing it yourself. I can still see Noel as he systematically played each one in a seemingly methodical manner for comparison. All I know is after he finished I would have been happy to have owned any one of them because they were all such great instruments. In all there were six Carroll concertinas at the midwest camp this August. I concluded that I loved the sound and playabiliity of all of them. It is very pleasing to me to know someone like Wally that can be so focused and committed to making such great sounding instruments at such an early stage in his building career. It will be hard to improve upon such early perfection but I am sure that Wally will find away to achieve such improvements which is why I will be placing an order for another in about 3 years. Steve
  19. Ceemonster, I believe I did respond to the second inquiry of yours and explained that I do not purposely ignore questions from any potential buyer. In case you hadn't noticed, ebay was having some problems. I would receive the same buyer questions twice from some and even after I answered others they still showed up in My Ebay message folder as unanswered. LaFidel is a friend of mine. She has already purchased a Suttner anglo from me a few years back. She made an honest bid because I was selling an honest product. Did you look at my feedback? I explained the "AS IS" in very understandable terms. If the makers of these instruments don't send warranties or guarrantees with these instruments then why should I warrant or guarrantee their workmanship for them. I did not refer anybody to ebay in my c.net buy and sell forum post because I did not want to have to pay two fees for selling this instrument. It was quite clear that it was not going to sell in this forum so I stated that it was no longer availabe. I'm going to lose money on the sale of this concertina as it is so any amount I can save I will. I don't begrudge donating money to this forum for its services because I have done so many times before due to instruments sold here. I don't appreciate your associating me with the dishonest offers to sell my Suttner to LaFidel from real scam artists. If you were confused about what I was offering then you needed to be more pro-active by asking me more questions. I still have a copy of your question and my response sent thru ebay so please, don't try to make me out as a scam artist which is what I feel you are doing. You will note that LAFidel did not say that the after auction offers came from the seller s2maur415 which is me. She emailed me about this knowing that I would want to make a report to ebay about the after auction closed scams. Unfortunately she has only the email addresses and not any ebay user ID's so there really isn't much that can be done by ebay. Steve
  20. Please, direct all inquiries about the concertina and price to s2maur@airolink.com Keys of C/G with c#/c# d#/e flat notes for first two buttons on right hand accidental row. Price reduced. Email for details. -------------------- Steve Maurice Iowa, USA

  22. Boy, have I had a pint or two too many. Corrections! I hear the Celtic Connections show aired on a local Public Radio station that is streamed live on Sunday afternoon at 3pm CST in the US. The archive site that I saw I did not pay too much attention to as it was a Photo Archive. Sorry for all of the mis-information but this is a really good program and you can listen to it in real time feed from KUNI FM Public Radio Station from the campus of the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, Iowa, USA.
