I thought all the pieces would be made from Kraftex, just the Gusset pieces, and the other pieces would be in the traditional ribbon or trapezoid shape.

Is there a “best wood” with concertinas?
genepinefield replied to holdyourponies's topic in Instrument Construction & Repair
A bit off topic. What do you think would be best wood to make a box to hold the reed pan in the bellows? I could buy the bellows separately on eBay, but I would need to remove and use the original reed pan box or make new one. -
@Ludovic I've made straps that are not the typical wrap-around strap ends that are held in place by screws (some Wheatstone and Stagi). https://concertina.pinefield.asia/concertina-repairs-stagi-english-concertina-replace-thumb-strap/ @Alex West WOW I remembered I already have his book. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. --- However, the location where the screws are attached does not fit the existing metal plate, and I'm worried about breaking the original screws. Also, is goat leather a good choice for the leather type?

I'd like a replacement thumb strap for an English concertina for a friend who has a thick thumb. My friend has his thumb stuck in too far and it's causing him to get a heat rash and hurt his fingers because of sweat. The screw that secures the strap is stuck at the maximum position and there are no holes any further (the leather isn't long enough). Do you have any ideas?

Sticky note on English Bastari

It can also be effective to light the action board from below. Hold a BBQ skewer in your dominant hand and fit the action board in as far as it will go. When you find a button that doesn't fit into a hole, insert the skewer into it and poke it gently to fit it into the hole. Rather than fitting them horizontally, it's better to fit each row diagonally starting from the back row. When you finish fitting each row, the tops of the buttons will be a little stuck in, like the first problem. This is because if you fit too many buttons in, it will be difficult to fit the next row of buttons in. Hi What do you think about synthetic leather gussets deteriorating over time and forming holes? Also, if you were to replace it with genuine leather, how much do you think it would cost?

Refurbish/Rebuild for a low quality concertina
genepinefield replied to Cathasach's topic in Instrument Construction & Repair
Hello The bellows gusset is synthetic leather. As a result, pinholes will open over time and cause air leaks. https://concertina.pinefield.asia/gusset-repairs-synthetic-leather-concertina-bellows/ For me, repairing the bellows is more motivating than replacing the reed. -

Hello Compared to 15 years ago, the quality of the metal parts at the bottom of the buttons is very poor. Perhaps the machines that die-cut them have not been updated.
