Very helpful. I saw a couple of these up for auction in mainland Europe a few yaers ago. This one appearing on Ebay made me wonder how they worked & could be played. Thanks Peter

Many thanks. The name 'Arietta' led me to a Concertina.net discussion a couple of years ago: Peter

I recently saw this on Ebay and am curious to know what it is & how it works. Can anyone help? Thanks Peter https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/134919307241?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D777008%26algo%3DPERSONAL.TOPIC%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D259707%26meid%3D015adbd859fe457eabdde477d5c0f8f0%26pid%3D101770%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26itm%3D134919307241%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D4375194%26algv%3DRecentlyViewedItemsV2%26brand%3DUnbranded&_trksid=p4375194.c101770.m146925&_trkparms=parentrq%3A790958bc18d0ab8c8728ceeefffcb8d8|pageci%3A10afe2df-c41a-11ee-bd27-020fdb6e9714|iid%3A1|vlpname%3Avlp_homepage

I have recentley acquired a very large 'piano' duet - with a range of four octaves. It was damaged in transit & really needs a hard case. If anyone has one they don't want or could point me to possible suppliers, I would be very grateful. I have scoured Ebay & the internet without coming up with any real options. The internal measurement in the case would need to be an absolute minimum of 26cm high x 25cm wide x 30cm long. I would prefer slightly larger internal measurements (+2-3 cm on each axis), to allow for some proper padding. Any help or advice would be gratefully received. Peter

I should have mentioned that I had a chance to play Andrew Norman's bass anglo, when visiting him a while back. It sounded just like it does on his video an dseemed quite responsive - though I'm no expert! Peter

Andrew Norman has put a video of his G/D bass anglo on YouTube:

30-Button C/G Lachenal Anglo Concertina - Now sold
Peter Smith replied to Peter Smith's topic in Buy & Sell
PM sent to Magpieblog Peter -
I am selling my 30-button C/G Anglo concertina as I recently acquired a Crabb anglo and do not use this Lachenal any more. I bought the Lachenal anglo concertina from Barleycorn in September 2018. The rosewood ends are complete and have been refinished. When I bought it, the concertina had newly bushed buttons, new bellows, as well as new pads & valves. The concertina has the Wheatstone layout and has been lightly used over the last 4.5 years. It has not needed any maintenance and it is in concert pitch (just checked against my Korg tuner). The concertina plays well and is Lachenal number 155415. The concertina comes with a soft Fuselli case. I am looking for £1850 and would be happy to include insured post within the UK. I would consider overseas, though protection for loss and taxes from the UK could be costly. Please contact me if you want an estimate of the cost. I would be happy to answer any questions and provide more pictures & a sound file, if required. Please message me with your e-mail address. Many thanks Peter

Are these all English concertinas or a mixture of English and Anglo? Thanks Peter

Right hand buttons keep sticking
Peter Smith replied to jrquints23's topic in General Concertina Discussion
Jody's method of sorting out the problematic buttons works well. I have used it in the past. If you are concerned about removing the pins (& understandably so), there may be someone on concertina.net or a repairer who lives near you who could help. Peter -
Right hand buttons keep sticking
Peter Smith replied to jrquints23's topic in General Concertina Discussion
Maybe there’s some wear in the supports under the buttons, so they are a bit ‘floppy’. I think there are some threads in Concertina.net about this problem but I’m not very good at finding past discussions. Whereabouts are you based? Peter -
This reminded me of a link a while back, where 'Super Nicko' burnishing cream was recommended for cleaning up old french polished surfaces. It works a treat - like a very fine abrasive - removing dirt and leaving a highly polished surface. I use this to clean up old wooden concertina cases, which still leaves the deeper old marks but improves them dramatically. See the link below for more information. Peter

On Facebook in 'Concertinas for Sale' there was a 55-button Crane for sale in Australia (Warren Fahey) for Australian $1750 (£1000) I think. See https://www.facebook.com/commerce/listing/1109806376315968/?ref=share_attachment I don't know if it is still available. Peter

Scholer 20 button concertina with original box
Peter Smith replied to Sammieola's topic in General Concertina Discussion
Your Scholer concertina looks interesting. What range does it cover? It looks like it has a range similar to the Jones ‘Piano’ concertina. Peter -

Thanks. A really interesting history and background to this Anglo. Peter

Looks the same as the one on the Facebook group ‘concertinas for sale’, which says it’s in Cork, Ireland for 2,900 Euros - Unless it’s a scam of course!!

I asked about the Connor & Jeffries before the auction & got some additional pictures. They did not know what key the concertinas were in & I didn't try to explain how to find out! They looked like a well cared-for set of concertinas, all boxed and in good condition. I was after the Connor & should have pushed the bidding a bit further- but there we go. No idea who purchased them but would expect most to appear for sale again! In my view, the prices seemed fair though the Jeffries was possibly a bit high, given the state of the ends. Peter
