SOS The chances are slim for me to receive my English concertina recovering in England with Dr. Dipper ... I will be at the Mariposa Folk Festival in Ontario next weekend with my band... If you have an English concertina sleeping at home and you want to save a life, I'm your man! I cross my fingers... David Berthiaume info@reveillons.qc.ca

Thank you Geoff, I think it was effectively a lack of humidity that made the buzz sound, and you are also ritgh about the low notes : it was the low F that made me panic. Cheers, David

I am in a french canadian traditionnal band... So it's all Québécois's reel, 6/8 and «call and respond» songs!

You'll probably find that reed is now out of tune. It look's like I'm a lucky man: the reed is still perfectly on tune!

Thank you so much! It feels great to know that some people have an idea of what I am taking about... I've followed your great advices but at the end I had to improvise (just as you told me). In a desesperate moment, I used my screwdriver, I loosed the screws, reoriented the tongue and it just did it! I will be able to go back to the studio this evening... I was close to my biggest nightmare, you saved my life!) I am still wondering how come the tongue had moved : the screws were very tight! Could the variations of the french canadian weather have something to do with it? I had this same problem before, four years ago, Mr. Chris Algar told me it was probably the humidity (I had to reach the England humidity in Canada); he friendly suggest to take a bath and let the concertina on a chair near the water... After a week, the reed was cure. But now this time, I did't have a week to solve the problem. If you were not that far from Montréal, I would offer you something to drink to that! David Berthiaume

Hello everyone, I am playing on an english concertina in a traditionnal band. When I do gigs, I use two sm57, but I am thinking to get two vox 400 microphones that suggest the button box. In my area, no one as those microphones, accordeon players that I know use micro clip ATM 350, and they are very happy with it. What do you suggest would be the best ? Au plaisir, David

Bidding on ebay is a bit like gambling in a casino for me. The bad thing is that you never know exactly what your going to end with, you have only an idea of it. I had a bad experience with ebay and I have promised myself that I would never use it again. David

Hello Paul, In fact, I have just check the Barleycom shop and he seems to sold concertina at a fair price. You are absolutely right about the selling price on ebay, you seem like a fine expert, which I am not. Has you asked me about my shopping of concertina, I had check with the Button Box (for something else than a Stagi, for example the beautifull Lachenal Edeophone at 2 765 GBP), the Concertina Connection (an old beauty of Wheatstone Aeola restored for 2 900 GBP) and the Hobgoblin concertina (which have concertinas in different conditions, if I’m not mistaken, it seems that if you want a fair concertina in good condition you better pay more than less, for example a Lachenal new model 1 895 GBP). I know that these exemples are cadillac concertina, their quality are surely not comparable to the Wheatstone on ebay but their prices are higher than what I expected. I am surprised ! David

I would say to that there was a reserve on that concertina, has it is usually with item of value. I don't know where you are shopping for your concertina, but a better model restored in concert pitch with steel reeds ... for less money... it just sound difficult to me. I'm just looking to buy a fare english concertina and the prices are higher then that. David

Thank you so much ! As soon as I get back my concertina from the accordeon repare shop I will do just like you wrote. If it does not work I will send you some picture. Thank's again. David Berthiaume -
Hello everyone, I just buy unfortunely a Lachenal on Ebay. It is a old english Lachanal. It seem to me in reletive good condition but I have a problem with it: I can’t seperate the two fist wood part. I do not know that mouch about concertina, but it seems to be stock inside (I can inseart a knife between the part’s, but fell a strong resistance when I try to open it). I send it in a accordeon repare shop, the guy do not know how to seperate the two fist wood part and he is afraid that if he force the system, the wood will brake on the top. Is there someone who is familiar with that kind of problem ? Do someone know where should I send-it ? I can't find a place specialise in concertina here in Canada. My Lachanal code is : 52687 Best wishes David Berthiaume (trafic system)
