  1. FYI: There is also a facebook page available for Selling Concertinas.
  2. That must have some very interesting player-piano type internal workings.
  3. Question for a rainy Sunday: The buttons on my Jackie EC are appox. 5mm in width. To look at them they appear impossibly small, fortunately they don't seem so small when you're playing but how wide are the buttons on a Wheatstone 48? or Albion 37? I wouldn't mind having just a tad more landing space...if that's possible Linrose
  4. Thanks for writing that ceemonster, I've only been playing since Jan. of this year but the first thing I noticed was that the most used notes could be shifted a bit higher on the key pad and I wouldn't mind dropping a few of the notes off the top that only my neighbors dog can hear. Now all I need is a winning lotto number to upgrade...sigh.
  5. Carpal tunnel syndrome in 30 days or a full refund (minus shipping, of course).
  6. You could give a clue to anyone else with the same problem! Was it that you needed to toggle the enable in options->editor not to interpret the file header (fills the display pane with the introductory page gumph)? Naw...At the top of the lower right-hand pane is a Zoom slider control thingy and to the right of that is a page display selector control widjet. You have select the 'up' direction to view the score. I wanted page 2 so I was beating on the 'down' selector button to go 'down' for page 2. Who knew you had to hit 'up' to go 'down'...not documented, not intuitive enough for me. Ah, but if you toggle the option about file headers, then the output is only one page, so there is no need to click on direction selectors! Didn't see where that was documented anywhere...I was looking for the 'dummies' section where it decribes each control and it's effect...and so until then I just mash buttons and fat finger controls until it works after a fashion more fun that way.

  8. Hmmm...I trying to use ABCexplorer 1.6.1. I'm getting the list of tunes on the left-hand side and I'm able to play the tunes but the lower right-hand pane refuses to display the music score. Everything seems to work but that single feature. What's the magic needed to display the score?
  9. Paul, thanks for setting that up. Makes using ABC a lot easier. And also thanks for the wonderful 'Tunebook' as well. Great resource! Linrose
  10. Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll try a humidifier first and then investigate the base of the buttons...BTW, I think the Jackie is a great starter instrument it feels very solid. I look forward each day to playing it...I must be improving since the neighbors have stopped calling the SPCA... Thanks again,
  11. I'm a new player (one month in) so this may be a dumb question. I have a Jackie EC which I really enjoy playing but I've noticed that alot of the reeds seem to be rattling a bit while sounding . A low frequency rattle (or very slow buzz) like someone shaking a pair of dice in a cup. I've taken the ends off and cleaned the exposed side of the reeds I've got shiny reeds now but the rattle remains.. .The valves look ok, nothing warped, torn or missing and the action looks ok too although I'm not sure what I should be looking for...anybody ever experience this condition? How did you resolve it? I searched through the forums but didn't see any reference to 'rattles' in the reeds. I'm not sure how old this Jackie is since I got it used but maybe I should consider upgrading these reeds and checking it over real good while I have it apart. Thanks,
  12. I'm a beginner in need of a starter 'english' concertina. I like the button layout of the english format and believe that's the keyboard for me to start with. I have several years of school band playing drums, piano, and guitar. Plus I play the uke and some blues harmonica in my free time. If anyone has a used instrument in playable condition that needs a new home please let me know. thanks, linrose
