  1. Hi All, My Morse G/D Anglo didn't sell on ebay at £1000, no reserve. There were over 40 watchers however so not sure quite what happened. Anyway, an instrument retailer at one of the Folk Festivals have offered to sell it for me for £1400 ("You'll have no problem, we get asked about G/Ds all the time" etc.). They take quite a hefty cut. As I'm off to the festival on Thursday, I've relisted it on a one day Auction with no reserve at £950 - that's what I'd get if the retailer sold it for me - on the offchance someone was interested, but just missed the boat. There's a buy it now option of £1100. If it doesn't sell, it'll be off to Towersey with me. It's a nice box and I'm selling due to an unfortunate change in my domestic situation, if you catch my drift. It's here - mention concertina.net and I'll make a 2% donation. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...E:IT&ih=009 Cheers Christian
  2. Well here's a turn up for the books. An old Uni friend has changed his picture on facebook to Scan Tester. "Oh, that's Scan Tester", says I. "Yes, he was my great uncle" says he. Anyway, we got talking, and he's just mentioned that his Dad recorded Scan on cassette just before his death, and asked if I'd be able to transfer the Tape to CD. Apparently he has a C90 cassette recorded on both sides. I have the hardware and software, but not necessarily the technical knowhow to make sure as crisp a recording as possible is made, and I wonder if this is something anyone here might be interested in helping out with? I'm hoping to pick the cassette up from London tomorrow. What do people think?
  3. I bought it, looking for a cheap G/D, but returned it as it wasn't quite as described. It's actually an Andrew Norman _Gremlin_, which isn't mentioned in the listing. I felt to describe it as "A C Norman made", but not mention it was a Gremlin was a bit misleading. I should also say there's nothing on the concertina to suggest it was made by Andrew Norman. Knowing Norman made Gremlins 25years ago - and not mentioning it's a Gremlin - suggests some careful economy with the truth. It's all in tune, but some of the reeds are very very slow to respond, much slower than the cheap Hohner I started on, and the "A C Norman" boxes I've played with in the past. My wife actually said "Why do you keep missing out notes on that one?". All in all, a typical ebay concertina purchase! Anyway, I returned it yesterday, 24 hour recorded delivery, so should be back with the seller today. I retain rights of ownership until my money is refunded!
  4. A quick basic question about chords if I may (pertaining to a morris tune specifically Speed The Plough): If you're playing a tune with a run up a scale (such as the fragment below abc notation) which in it's simplest form requires lots of bellows changes and a crossing of the hands mid-run, how do you play the chord? The notation below has a G chord across the 2 bars. "G" |GABc dedB|dgdB dedB| If I was playing the melody on the right hand G row, I'd just bounce G & Bd on the left hand for each crotchet and either push or pull it'd ultimately be OK, if a bit simple. This has been complicated as I'm now playing the tune across the rows (on the recommendation of Brian Peters at his anglo workshop in Sidmouth last week) starting an octave lower on the G on the left hand C row. I can play the melody either push pull, or mainly pull, but I can no longer make any sense of the chords. Any suggestions (other than buying a G/D)?
  5. Hi Robin. That's the plan - I've rescheduled this months show rather than do a pre-record for that reason. If anyone fancies recording a tune for us in Sidmouth, please let me know and I'll trot along with a little handheld digital recorder and a pint.
  6. I'm meeting Woody for a beer in The Bedford on Saturday evening before (if memory serves correct) Mary Humphreys & Anahata, and I'm still debating whether to bring the box to the Radway for my first public session participation. Don't forget there's also the WCCP workshops as well.
  7. While I'm at it, here's a screen cap of presumably Alf Edwards playing "Maid From Amsterdam" from Moby Dick
  8. Assuming my attempt at adding an image works, here's the concertina from a quick screencap of The Wickerman.
  9. I've been chatting to Woody over email about the problems finding players of a similar standard. I've been playing Anglo for about 2 years to please myself. I'm nowhere near session standard, but can happily busk along to most simple tunes, and even dab in a few chords (G or C on the push) if feeling really adventurous. I'd like to meet other Anglo players of a similar standard around Cambridge UK with a view to getting together to play casually outside of a session (with a long term view of going to a session and actually taking the box). So, any anglo players near Cambridge UK?
  10. Wow! Amazing stuff. While we're on the subject of videos (sorry to go OT), do any videos of Peter Bellamy exists (online), particularly videos playing concertina? A quick search has yield nothing.
  11. His obituary is here: http://arts.guardian.co.uk/news/obituary/0,,1800799,00.html A sad loss. "Folksongs of Britain and Ireland" is my desert Island Book.
  12. I'm looking for an abc transcription of (the tune to) The Coleraine Regatta as recorded in 1968 by The Johnstons. Numerous net searches haven't bourne fruit. Anyone able to help? Perhaps the tune is known by another name, but it doesn't seem to be either the tune Coleraine or The Dingle Regatta.
  13. So I understand the terminology, playing in Octaves effectively means playing the same tune on each hand (hopefully at the same time), right?
  14. I've an entry level 30 Key Honer Sutherland anglo that's surplus to requirements. It's like this one: http://www.eaglemusicshop.com/images/LgIns...s/ho30anglo.jpg It retails at about £299 I've moved up a level concertinawise and I'd quite like to have a bash with an English Concertina, so I wondered if anyone had an entry level English they'd like to trade cashlessly for my entry level Anglo. It's in pretty good condition, is about 18 months old and hasn't had huge amounts of use. I'm based in Cambride UK, but travel around a fair bit if anyone's interested. Cheers Christian
  15. No sooner does Wakasaobama's genuine auction end (reserve not met), the concertina is back up for sale, this time from China! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Jeffries-C-G-Anglo-C...1QQcmdZViewItem Obviously another scam.
