  1. Can anybody here do this? Iheard of it being done by a female accordion and male melodeon player to great comic effect at the revels. The singer was singing a sad song of parting lovers, when the light came up to reveal the players embracing while playing behind each others back. And of course there are the "stupid melodeon tricks" at the midwest morris ale - players playing their each other's melody line, and many other variations. Of course melodeons are easier than concertinas. ;-)
  2. The Noel Hill concertina schools are obviously great for the anglo player. Would an English system player get anything from them? Has anyone tried it?
  3. Can anyone identify the tunes Kelville is playing in this clip: I see there are some other clips of her, so it would be nice to have the music identified for all of them. Jim Morgan
  4. I saw the Gay Divorcee several years ago, before I knew much about concertinas, but the fellow (Tonettie) does play it in the film. I think it was an Anglo. There's also nice concertina playing in Twelfth Night (96). Ben Kingley as Feste plays the concertina, since they reset the play in the nineteenth century. You don't actually see his fingers, so I assume someone did the playing for him. Jim M
  5. I see the Buttonbox has started selling silica gel packets among it's accessories. I took a quick look in some local shops, but I'm not sure where else you can buy them. Perhaps a camera shop.
  6. Thanks for all the comments. This is really helpful. Jim
  7. I read in the introductory material here that 6-fold belows were optimal for English concertinas. There have recently been some on Ebay that appear to good quality, and sold be reputable ebayers, but with four-fold belows. Was that standard in the 19th century? Would it be a major drawback? One went for $1100©, which seems to be a good deal. The description is at http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...ssPageName=WDVW Jim
