  1. Mike, not fishy, Diaton2003 is a regular good ebayer and concertina person.
  2. Gone this afternoon, but back again tonight at 18.11 !!!! You couldn't make it up, so perhaps it would be a good story, Perhaps Geoff could write it as he's not working today!!
  3. Aha, Thanks Theo, Hadn't found this page! That solves the problem.
  4. There is a page described as a ledger page along with a Lachenal anglo on ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321068999355?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 The dates on the page bear little relation to the age of the concertina. I hadn't really paid a lot of attention to the page when I looked at the ebay page. There is so much verbiage written that I couldn't easily wade through it! I did however ask for the serial no, which he has posted. The second part of his message was about the page, which prompted me to take a closer look at the page. I have come to the conclusion that this might be a Lachenal page, or a page from another dealer maybe. The numbers seem to be Anglo and English serial numbers and the dates not too far adrift of those given on the dating list in the info pages here. If this is significant then perhaps someone should buy this concertina to preserve the page, but don't bid against each other! I won't be bidding. I had another look, page appears to be a copy, but the seller wrote this to me: can you enlighten me as to why this was in the box, also with the name of person purchasing this concertina and the serial no i think as same on my concertina please this would help as i did assume it matched up/ ie the previous person kept all this together etc thank you
  5. I wasn't impugning Robin's character at all.The facts are that the sale of the Crabb was raised here on c.net initially and Robin volunteered the information that he was the owner. I was curious enough to find out on ebay "community " what could be done about this type of thing. The answer was that only the owner could get ebay to take such a listing down, but would need to go through the police. I sent a PM to Robin with this info. but he didn't want to take any action. That was his choice. When all is said and done it depends on ones own attitude to preventing fraud/theft and doing what one can to stop it. I feel that people should try and stop this sort of thing, if poss. I hope no one else is put in this situation, but I think it is quite likely to reoccur. Look at the situation with horsemeat!! Someone committing fraud to make a quick buck. I do agree with Robin that some checks would be a good idea. I wouldn't want to spend that amount of money without knowing more about the item.
  6. I almost hate to say this Robin, but you could have stopped the "sale" of your Crabb if you had taken the matter to the police and possibly also ebay.
  7. I have a raised metal anded 55 key Lachenal which will be available when we have sold our house and I have been able to find another box starting on C on the R. I don't know if it will "cut the mustard" as I don't know how loud "loud" is!
  8. Back on, and off, yesterday in Leicester and today in Arizona. What can one do??????????
  9. There is an Aeola on the auction site in griffinga's post "Wheatstone English Concertinas" in Buy and sell. This has frets cut between the buttons. Serial no 26506 - August 1914 http://www.campbellsauctions.co.uk/ Picture: http://www.campbellsauctions.co.uk/Catalogues/gs120213/lot0258-0.jpg
  10. The first electromagnetic Telegraph invented by Cook and Wheatstone got a good airing on BBC "The genius of invention" tonight. The Cook-Wheatstone telegraph was installed extensively on the railways in 1840's. Clever guy, but then we know that!
  11. Saw this on the Red button this afternoon, (after the world champs skiing!). Enjoyed it, but disappointed no concertinas!
  12. I think this scammer must be deficient in the cranial department. The definition of stupidity is to keep doing the same thing and expect a different result!
  13. Here's another scam, apparently by the same scammer. This one has been on before too. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wheatstone-Lachenal-English-Concertina-/321066840503?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ac11331b7
  14. Gone again, but see new post!
  15. Michael, I concur! There is a post here recently about possibly the oldest written music, runic symbols or similar. Nothing about early flute and recorder type wind instruments from China and other ancient cultures either. There are cave paintings of people with musical instruments too. The whole area was just given lip service I feel, sad as it is probably the most intruiging area of music as some things are only just coming to light I hope we are not going to be subjected to a whole programme later of his rather boring choral music!
  16. Someone local came to the guesthouse with what he claimed was a Ferrari, complete with badges, but looked to me like a late model Datsun280Z. Recognisable as I had 3 240Zs in succession and it sounded the same .He was adamant until we looked under the bonnet and there was the Datsun straight six engine, looking almost identical in layout to my 240Z! Car disappeared from locality quite quickly! I don't know whether he was showing off or had been sold a pup! (that is, paying over the odds for something it wasn't!)
  17. We didn't get the Crabb taken down, even though it is owned by a c.net member. Ebay do act quickly with this Jefferies style scam, the listings are rarely there for longer than a few hours, in fact one has just gone and I only looked at it 10 mins ago. (and reported it ) Edit: appears to be an error on my searching! Both Jeffries still there, but a large astronomical telescope taken down as I was looking at it, with 4 bids. A total of 139 scam items were listed under a few of the shop's auction items!
  18. Ross, it's one reason ebay strongly advise not to sell or buy off ebay, once the money has left you, you may never see it again! Also, they want the Paypal fees for the transaction. (Paypal is owned by ebay)
  19. They were both taken down quickly, but are both back on 2 hours ago, only for 5 days this time. Shortening the sale time to try to catch someone. Keep reporting! gcoover, you're right about ebay losing credibility. There were issues with them and Paypal which the papers made a noise about, but I think were only partly dealt with (don't ask- can't remember the detail!).
  20. I decided to be cheeky and and asked "why are you trying to sell a concertina owned by someone else? This is provable." I have been ignored, no denial or proof of ownership forthcoming. Unfortunately it looks as if this will "sell" and someone may be defrauded. The seller will probably take the money out of Paypal and disappear. Whether the purchaser gets their money back remains to be seen.
  21. Re. Theo's comment, see my posting no 39 under "Beware of scams".
  22. I figured that the quickest way to get rid of all the items this scammer is listing is to contact the site owner, as it's a hijacked site they may not know yet. Edit: Have done so.
  23. I messaged the seller to ask for the serial no. to "check the date with Crabb concertinas"!! He's just come back with no 17798. Fact or fiction? Afraid I don't know enough about it to tell!
