  1. The Clover is now in a new home in Belfast. Thanks for the interest. A donation is forthcoming to this site. Cheers, Kenneads
  2. G'day Karl, I am taking the Clover to Ireland for a potential sale (99% sure). If it doesn't sell (unlikely) I will bring it back to Australia and contact you if you are still interested. That would be about mid April. Cheers, Dave
  3. G'day Jody, I definitely heard banjo. Clawhammer style if I'm not mistaken. Cheers
  4. G'day, at the moment I have both a Clover and an Edgeley, although the Edgeley is a professional model. Both are great instruments although I prefer the Edgely because of the bigger, flat top buttons. The Edgeley also has a seven fold bellows which are nice and supple. But as I said on another post I haven't really 'played in' the Clover and I am sure the bellows would loosen up up with more play time. As far a tone and build go, both are excellent. The reed response is very good on both concertinas and the action is about the same on both. As I said I prefer the larger flat top buttons on the Edgeley over the smaller diameter domed metal buttons on the Clover, but that is just personal preference. The Clover has wooden ends and the Edgely has metal ends so there is a slight difference in tone. I bought the Clover new and the Edgeley used. I currently have the Clover for sale (see the buy and sell forum) and have some interest from a member in Belfast who has first dibs at it. Having bought a Wakker Hayden Duet (which I love), I may sell the Edgely as well. Let me know if you are interested. By the way the Clover is a Wheatstone layout and the Edgely is Jeffries layout. Cheers, Dave
  5. Hi Dawn, I will be mainly in Dublin (Skerries and Rush) but will be travelling to the West at some stage. I was only going to bring the concertina over if someone purchased it. I was not going to travel with it. It is a really great instrument and is in as new condition. I am willing to negotiate on the price a little if you are really interested. If you would like to know anything about it feel free to contact me. Cheers, Dave
  6. I have a Clover Anglo for Sale. This is a wheatstone layout and is 30 button C/G. It has black ebonised ends, six fold leather bellows and comes with a hard case. A soft gig bag is also available at no extra charge. While this is obviously a used instrument, it has had very little playing time as I purchased a used Edgely concertina and have been playing that instead. I am asking AUD$1600 plus postage. The concertina is located in Victoria, Australia. I can provide photos if need be. Contact me with your location for a postage quote. The instrument will be very carefully packed for shipping. I am travelling to Britain and Ireland at the beginning of March and could bring the concertina with me which would save on postage to either of these locations. Of course I will make a donation to this site if it sells. Cheers.
  7. Just an aside. The royal Arcade in Melbourne was, and still is, a prestigious address. Beautiful Melbourne was built mainly with Gold Rush money from the mid 1800's and is a spacious and beautifully laid out city with some extremely impressive buildings, arcades and leafy parks surrounding it. Old Charlie must have had a large rental bill methinks. I have attached a photo of the Royal Arcade.
  8. I have just purchased a used Edgely concertina from a bloke in Canada. It arrived in Australia yesterday. I can tell you I am an extremely happy fellow. What a little beauty. The button layout fits under my hands perfectly, the tone is wonderful, the seven fold bellows an absolute delight. The quality of workmanship is outstanding. The only slight imperfection was a reed that was a bit slow to start. But after reading the supplied information sheet from Frank Edgeley I remedied the problem within about five minutes. By the way it is a metal ended, cocobolo C/G with Jeffries layout. I feel that my playing (advanced beginner) has improved immensely in just one day. Like the book I have on Anti-gravity, I can't put it down!
  9. I have been playing a Clover C/G for a little while and really like it but have just acquired a used Edgeley (jeffries layout) which seems to suit my hands much better - and I have to emphasise, my hands. Everyone is different. Also the Clover is a Wheatstone layout and I must admit I prefer the Jeffries layout. I cannot fault the Clover for workmanship and tuning. The only slight negative for me, is that the straps on the clover were on the last adjustment hole and were still a bit tight for me. A very minor issue. If anyone is interested the Clover is for sale. It is located in Australia.
  10. Hi ent, this instrument has now been sold. Thanks for your interest.
  11. I know that this concertina is a very basic Lachenal and needs some work to get it to a good playable state. It definitely needs tuning. The bellows seem to be airtight and as I have stated before the pads look to be fine. See the pics for how clean the internals are. I would rather that this instrument was played rather than sitting around deteriorating. So here's the rub. You can buy this concertina for AUD$200 (GBP 131, US$205) or make me a reasonable offer. Shipping would of course be extra. This could be a great entry level instrument. Cheers.
  12. Hi, Here are some pics of the instrument.
  13. Hi, I have a 48 key Lachenal English Concertina for sale. The serial number dates it to around 1926 or 27, according to the formula on this site. It is in good condition and very clean for its age. The ends are intact and the only blemish on the finish is two spots of wear from fingernails. The thumbstraps look original although they have been repaired with bookbinders tape at some stage. The small fingerplates still have their leather covers although a little worn in spots. The reeds are steel in brass shoes and are in great condition although they will need to be tuned. Middle C does not sound on the push although I can see nothing wrong with the reed. The valves are still supple but some are slightly curled from storage. The pads seem in reasonable shape. The felt bushing between the lever and button is missing on one of the accidental keys, but unless I take it apart again I can't remember which one.The internals of this concertina are really in a clean condition. The bellows may have been re-covered at some stage (I'm not sure)and seem in reasonable condition - no holes that I can find. The concertina still has the original baffle material behind the fret work which is very clean and intact The pine box shows its age and is not in fantastic condition and the handle is missing although it will protect the instrument. Inside the lid someone has written "Many Happy Returns of the Day, from Dad". Concertina Net is the only site I have advertised on. Of course if it sells I will make a donation. If it doesn't sell I will put it on eBay. I am an Anglo player so I don't feel inclined to spend any money on this. I am keeping the price low, AUD$500, because I know it will need some money spent on it to make it perfect. The Concertina is located in Victoria, Australia. Contact me for a quote for International postage if you are interested. Cheers P.S. can someone let me know how to upload pics for this. I'm an old fella and a bit dumb when it comes to technology.
