  2. For my MIDI concertina project I decided that the buttons had to be in the same positions as on my real concertinas. Cherry switches are too big for that spacing so I ordered some from Mouser Electronics, https://www.mouser.co.uk/ProductDetail/688-SKHHBW which are 6 mm square with buttons 3.4 mm diameter. The operating force is 1.6 N, and in use I have found them a bit uncomfortable so I am considering replacing them by a version with lighter operating force and/or fitting them with caps of larger diameter.

  4. Can you please give me the approx date for Lachenal 184566, 20 button Anglo? It’s in very nice condition with the original leather baffles still installed (therefore makers badge and serial). In spite of all my efforts, two end bolts broke on disassembly but I can easily replace these. I really don’t think this concertina has been taken apart in 100 years!!!
  5. Yea, Michael! I was afraid all the extra formats were overkill, but now I know it was worth it! Thank-You!
  6. What fun! I transcoded the MusicXML version into ABC by opening it in my ABC Transcription Tools and did some editing of the fermata note lengths and a fixing a few side minor side effects of the transcode. Here it is using my per-note sampled Concertina instrument sound: Live in the tool: https://tinyurl.com/497yn9hm

  8. Thanks, David, and of course, Jim. I have been otherwise occupied and paying less attention here....Nice work!
  9. To avoid overloading Concertina.net with attachments, I've created a DROPBOX FOLDER where you can view my videos, compositions, sheet music, pdfs, xml, musicxml, midi, and photos. I've only posted a few so far: "Over the Rainbow" arrangement files and files pertaining to my newly acquired 1904 Edeophone Baritone 56-button. I will keep adding music files weekly, so keep the link copied somewhere handy. ---Matt Heumann Thanks to all who suggested this solution!!!!!!! *You will have to download the midi, musicxml & xml files and reopen in appropriate music program. If it asks you to login, go to dialog below that where it says "continue download", you should be good to go! Dropbox folder "Concertina.net -Matt Heumann": (You will have to download the midi, musicxml & xml files and reopen in appropriate music program). https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/i5lofidbbd1yjobp9n9g0/AG3cvIuctpmyNHXehpLB9qw?rlkey=69a5q3urtcv1j4uk1s83do1bi&dl=0
  10. We might be onto something here ... 😉 John
  11. Folkworks summer school returns to Durham! After a gap because of covid and a reduced Youth Summer School in deepest Northumberland last year, this year's summer school will be held in Durham School in Durham City. It will be a wonderful experience for any folk-minded player between the ages of 14 and 17. The summer school is rather expensive at £500 inclusive this year. The ICA has for a number of years offered a bursary (£250 this year) towards the cost for a suitable concertina player. To qualify, they would need to be an appropriate age and to play concertina to a reasonable standard (above beginner). They would need an interest in folk music but do not need previous folk experience. The 2024 Summer School will mainly involve working in mixed instrument groups, but the course will be tailored to the young musicians so there will be opportunity for instrument specific focus during the week. Sam Partridge (one of this year’s tutors) is a concertina player and will be able to support with this. They will be expected to write a short piece about the experience for Concertina World, the ICA magazine. We could offer help with drafting this if needed. We would also like a photograph taken during the summer school. Folkworks should be able to arrange this. If you are interested or would like to know more, contact Roger Gawley at bursary@concertina.org More on the summer school at https://theglasshouseicm.org/whats-on/folkworks-summer-school-application-2024/ Applications close on May 10

  14. Take those small pipes and replace the chanter with a melodica to get some free reeds in the mix.
  15. I thought you might enjoy seeing & hearing a quick sound sample on my newly acquired 56-button 1904 Edeophone Baritone from https://concertinashop.com.au/ Thanks to proprietor (and now friend) PJ Cullen for his excellent service, brilliant packaging, and almost daily communication, it was one of my most enjoyable business dealings ever. PJ was a delight to talk to and the quality of the Edeophone is beyond my expectations. For anyone hesitant to buy from so far away: The concertina spent more time in US customs and the local USPS Distribution network, than in flight from Australia. The added bonus was that the instrument had no Duty on it (either because of being over 100 years old, or perhaps the Australian-US Free Trade Agreement). The 5 lb+ beast has really rapid action, great air retention, and a voice that rattles the windows. Really looking forward to getting to know it (just a few valves to set right). Looking forward to making some videos of it in action. SEE MORE AT THIS DROPBOX LINK: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/i5lofidbbd1yjobp9n9g0/AG3cvIuctpmyNHXehpLB9qw?rlkey=69a5q3urtcv1j4uk1s83do1bi&dl=0
  16. I suppose something like a set of small pipes - the ones with a bag and a bellows ..
  17. Snake Chapman's Tune. D modal tunes work great on the C/G Anglo concertina. This crooked tune is popular at Old Time sessions and festivals. Originally known as "Home with the Girls in the Morning" this tune has undergone some modifications via the folk process.
  18. I will admit that even prior to this post I was wondering if such a thing had been made. What would it be like?
  19. Notice: Sale in progress for Carroll #033 - no longer available.
  20. With respect, I want to converse with persons of serious intent to buy. My offer to do live online video chats with potential buyers can be seen as evidence I am not a scammer. Because I have 5 instruments to offer, I set this up in a way that I think will minimize the chance of any misunderstandings if any inquiry leads to a sale. This isn't my hobby, so it should be no surprise if I approach this in a way that is not usually done. As I said in the post, patience, please.
  21. Why all the hocus pocus? Why not post the access to picture folders? Also prices? With respect smells of scam. Not the way it's usually done.
  22. That is really useful thanks Simon. I never looked at Stagis but will do now.
