Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if anybody can send me the sheet-music for a tune called "Mick O'Connor's Choice"? Attached is a reocrding I seperated from a recording of the internet (Culan- bbc radio). It's of course a set and the name of the first tune is named "Johnny's Reel". You can keep the mp3 if you want. I love it, but I've still got to find out the name of the concertina player. Anyway, hope you enjoy it and I wouldn't mind the sheet-music if anybody could spare it. wink.gif

Kind Regards,
Patrick

Hi Patrick,

The first reel reminds me of the congress reel but it is a little different.
(it is on http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/208 )

I remember that the second reel is somewhere on the "at the racket" cd, see here for all the track titles.
I don't remember the name or the track number.

Happy squeezing

The session site lists a couple of Mick O'Connor's
This one is a reel from transcribed from a dervish album allegedly, and
This one seems to be lunasa
oh, and Here's another

If you're not familiar with the session web site, make sure to read the comments on each tune which usually gives lots of useful info and maybe different settings of a tune.
To get decent sheetmusic printout, cut and paste the ABC into Concertina nets fine Tune a tron!,
you can also get a midi here, to see if any of these tunes are what you're looking for

Hi Patrick

The closest I can find on "Johnny's Reel" is that it was written by Archie Stewart for his son in 1917. Page down a lot or start at the bottom and page up. It's almost at the bottom.
http://www.ibiblio.org/fiddlers/JOHNN_JOHNS.htm

Unfortunately the only place that I could find the music is in a book called "The Fiddle Music of Prince Edward Island": http://books.google.com/books?id=We5Qio9Af...=result#PPA7,M1

It's just a preview of the book, and there are a lot of tunes listed with the sheet music but not the one you need. Maybe someone has a copy to lend?

I'm not 100% positive, but the closest I can find is that both Johnny's Reel & Mick O'Connor's Choice were played together by Johnny Connolly on a melodeon. I believe that is who played the tunes you heard.

Hi again,

There is some information on

http://www.irishtune.info/tune/4848/

but also irishtune.info does not know any book with sheet music containing it.

This is, as Leo has suggested, melodeon playing. Whilst I don't know the tunes to play myself nor indeed the names, I recognise them and would respectively suggest caution if learning them from this recording. Whilst of course they will still be fine tunes, and Johhny Connolly is a brilliant musician, the reason I suggest caution is that they have been changed al little, if not a big bit to suit the melodeon and there is a lot more possibilities with them if played on any other instrument.

Hi Patrick,

I have entered the dots for the first tune and here is a PDF document with the tune Johnny's reel.

As I wrote it down, bar 5 is a variation of bar 1.
In fact, these variations are played differently in all repetetions of bar 1 and bar 5. Most of the time it is like in bar 5.

The second part of the tune only differs in the same bars.
