I've been looking for this on You Tube so that I can play along, but I can't find it. Does it have another name? I've read that it's also called "The Rose Among the Heather", but the versions of that that I can find definitely are not this tune.

Take your pick of this lot (plenty of alternative names):

Most should have MIDI files to download (not that they're very pleasant to play along to!).

No, they're not, but sometimes it's all there is!

Never mind, I'll just carry on playing by myself. ABC is a great idea, but once the speed is up, by the time you click on Play and get your hands back onto the baby, the tune's already half way along the first line.

I feel like I've known that tune all my life, but had no idea what it was called, and I was surprised not to find anyone playing it anywhere. If a man cuts down a tree and nobody puts it You Tube, does he exist?

The tunes are definately different.
I have both tunes in "Kerr's Merry Melodies for the Violin" vol 1, now sadly out of print.

Here is the ABC for each.
The version in Kerr for "The Lad wi' the Plaidie" is slightly different from the version Christine Martin published in her book (the decorative border is distinctive, so I know that's where you got your copy of the tune!)
You should be able to paste these into the Tune-O-Tron and get something useful out.

I have heard the latter called "Roes among the heather", i.e. roe deer.
Just to confuse matters, I found a tune in a pipe book named "Rose Among the Heather" but the tune was "The Lad wi' the Plaidie".
So there is some confusion around.
