I'm curious to know what people think of this.
Her technical command of the AC is superb.
But I hear the tune as a slow reel, gentle and haunting,
rather than as a dance tune.
I prefer the playing Of Matt Molloy, Oisin MacDiarmada, and Brian McNamara.
Noel Hill plays it with more feeling, as well, though also rushed.
De gustibus non est disputandum. And YMMV.
Lawrence Reeves
For me the definitive performances of this tune are Peadar O'Loughlin and Ronan Browne on South West Wind, and a clip I have seen of Seamus Ennis playing it. I don't feel that the speed of the tune is too fast with Katie, but she is demonstrating how the use of some double stops really simulate the pipes.

i am very partial to michelle mulcahy's exquisite & elegant concertina rendition of this tune on the first, eponymously-titled "Mulcahy Family" recording...

nice of this handztraps person to post all those videos from the eigse crotty conertina recital on youtube. i love the mairead considine/tom carey one....

Yeah I, too, think it's amazing playing but I prefer the tune slower.

I just saw the clip of Edel Fox playing Return to Miltown, one of my favorite tune, and I'm blow away. She seems to be having a problem with a sticky button a the beginning though, unless I'm mistaken. But heck that girl can throw punches :-)

The tune is actually "Farewell to Milltown Malbay" (there is also a return wink.gif ) - second one is "The New Road"

in fact, ms. fox did indeed mention at the beginning of her lovely performance that she was having sticky-button problems. i believe it may have been a "b." it poured rain continually throughout this festival and the weeks surrounding it, and concertinas responded accordingly....

Non-stop rain in Ireland? You've got to be kidding! ;-)

Lucky you, it must have been a great festival.

Ah, thanks, yeah that's it, composed by Junior Crehan. She plays a bit of a different setting than I do, she stays low at the beginning, I learned with the high C and D, not sure what the original version contains.
