Does anyone know if there are any concertina repair workshops at the Sidmouth Folk Festival? My Wheatstone Aeola has a couple of problems that I am sure are simple to sort out but I just take the ends of have a look to see if everything appears ok and then put the ends back on!!! I really would like to be a bit more confident about doing minor repairs.

I don't think that there are formal workshops on that subject, though if there were I would go as well. I would try the WCCP's concertina workshops Monday - Thursday mornings at All Saints church hall. Apart from anything else Colin and Rosalie Dipper usually pop in once or twice during the week. Also, if you haven't already got it, you should find it easy to get a copy of Dave Elliott's excellent book The Concertina Maintenance Manual at one of the musical instrument dealers stalls.

I do have Davids book and it is great but I need someone to give me confidence to actually do something once I have opened up the box - I don't mind admitting that I find the inside of my concertina's a bit scary! Oh well if you see this message David I will probably be contacting you on my return from Sidmouth.
