Is it this tune?
I would keep my 2nd finger on the A almost all the time and almost always play the B with my first. For the scale at the end of each phrase I would fall back on normal positions.

In this tune, I find that this works out very well. In other tunes, one is not so lucky. Try Harvest Home in D... you have to anticipate which finger to use for the A every time... making it a finger-breakdance. But I've heared an old recording of it being played on EC very fast and fluently, so I assume this kind of fingerdance is not uncommon.

Blasted fiddlers - they always get you with something like this!
(I think I have it on a Swarbrick Album somewhere)

being incompetent I'd probably have to leave out half the notes sad.gif (There's a hint in the sessiion website link that there's a least one version of the tune around that does that laugh.gif

sorry, I meant in the key of G,which is how it is for Northumbrian pipes,in the pipers tune book. I have Timour the tartar written in a major, probably a fiddlers version.
michelv youmust be playing it in A,sorry Ididnt make clear the key I was talking about.

Well here is the fingering that Iprefer when Iam in g.
bar1, middle finger on left hand g,ring on high g,index finger for b note
bar2,ring on high g,middle for highf#.
bar4 f#ring finger,middle finger d,index finger a.
second bar of the turn.I play d with middle finger, c natural with ring.a with index.
I have thin fingers so getting three fingers to play the notes is not aproblem for me.
I find that is the easiest way to get the highf#,comfortably,Iwould welcome alternative suggestions.
