It has just come to my attention that Reg Hall's 1990 study of Scan Tester "I Never Played to Many Posh Dances", written to accompany the Topic LP of Scan's music, has recently been re-published as a series of pdf downloads on the Musical Traditions website.

There are only a few copies of the original publication remaining, and a reprint would not be financially viable. In order to keep this important work available to the public the parties involved have agreed to publish it on the internet. Reg has scanned a copy and has made a full facsimile version, broken into 9 sections for easier downloading.

Personally, although I did get the LP, I foolishly missed the opportunity to buy the book when it was first published, so I am delighted that this is now available.

If you have not previously come across it, The Musical Traditions Internet Magazine edited by Rod Stradling is a fascinating resource for anyone interested in traditional music, especially but not exclusively that of the British Isles.

One of the best websites on the net for that sort of thing, I reckon. The CDs on sale are well worth checking out as well. Although I'm hopelessly addicted now sad.gif .

Many thanks for the notice! I was lucky enough to purchase the book and tape when new, but it is nice to know that his music may be on CD soon...my last cassette player is kaput. And there is also the interview with Reg Hall on that site, very nice to read.
Cheers,

Excellent book. Nicely written and observed. If you've not read it then I would strongly recommend this download.
